I think I'm one of the few people who actively dislikes cruise control. The last time I tried to use it, I nodded off behind the wheel. I'm definitely more alert when my foot is on the gas pedal.
That’s interesting about the slowness thing. I had a xB and remember it being quite snappy at least around town. I do remember it struggling above 70 mph and also remember not being able to pass anyone though. I just bought an xA to beat around in for deliveries and I have to say I am quite impressed. Honestly, when driving it, I feel like I’m back driving my old xB it’s so similar. It has almost 200,000 miles on it but I know my xB was at 225 or 250 maybe when some turd ran into me and totaled it and had no issues whatsoever. I bought it at 155000 and had it for 6 years. I loved that car though and I looked at the time and just recently when I got the xA, but couldn’t find one that I liked. Anyways, yeah good to see someone besides me loving the xB. Oh and you know what? MIne had a arm rest! Idk if it was installed later but looked like it belonged there!
Agree with all your points. Almost ready for my third windshield and I’ve only had my 2006xB for the last 5 years. Damn thing is almost vertical. Nothing aerodynamic about the toaster! We get some strong dust storms out here in Reno, NV living on the edge of the dessert. Just turned 140K and absent any crashes the car should outlast me. I’m a grandpa. Love how easy to work on. Change the oil myself, got tired of the hustle at quick change places, tune up is very easy, did the front discs and rear drums and installed Koni adjustable struts rear shocks and just for giggles added a rear sway bar. There are many curvy mountainous roads to explore and I do get some looks from other motorists as I pass bye them in the corners or leave them behind. Of course they usually catch me on straightaways and 80mph is the new 55 or so it seems. Love your videos. I know you love your box!
All valid points, I felt that Toyota should have used the engine from the Corolla of the same years. With the bigger 1.8 liter engine it would made your #s 3, 2, 1 better on the XB.
My box came with an arm rest no issues with it besides the fabric fading. I have no problem with my AC it blows cold air. 🤷🏻♀️ Yea i agree with how slow it is. OMG when I get on the free way or up a hill I’m screwed. My front end is full of bugs, that’s all I have to say.
Things I learned today: My armrest was a fancy dealership add on 😏 (I actually like it 🤷🏽♂️) and my AC is actually not broken 🤣 I've been wondering why it's "adequate" at best 😅
I had to get rid of my 2006 XB because of a mysterious overheating problem (at about 220k miles).. couple of inspections from my regular mechanic, including changing thermostat didn’t work.. leaving it at a backed up Toyota specialist shop didn’t help.. car kept overheating and side note: I hate the lack of normal temp gauge… anyway it was a cool ride for a little while before I sold it to Carmax… I have a 2006 Toyota Matrix that has over 300k miles with original engine & tranny, and a Japanese-built 2002 Camry SE with manual transmission.. both run fine 👌
I have an old 2003 for my everyday driver. You have obviously modified your exhaust system, that is why your car is so loud. I drove a Falcon convertible with a high performance 289 for 40 years, talk about loud. My AC works plenty good in our hot California summers. I don't like the funky AC vents which won't allow you to aim the breeze from side to side. The short wheelbase gives you a rough ride over pothole, so I steer away from them. Got to agree with you about the boxy front end. It's flat like a box. That is why I have a large stone deflector, mounted on the front of the hood. As far as an armrest goes, both your hands belong on the steering wheel! The 2003's did not have turbos, yet mime with an automatic will go from 0-75 on any freeway entrance. That fast enough for me.
I live is Phoenix, and have had my 2010 xB for 6 years and I agree with every point. My AC went out a while back, alternator just went out and I replaced that, and now due to that I have to get a new front bumper, which the previous owner did aftermarket everything and I really like it but can't seem to find it. But I love my brave little toaster 😍
I have a 2006 with auto, and the first time I took it on a road trip to Des Moines (I-80 all the way) I thought the car was busted somehow. Just a few hills, and you can watch the speedo drop as you push your foot to the floor. My number one complaint though is the teeth rattling harsh ride! As for the windshield, I'm convinced it's designed as a "structural member". I had one windshield crack horizontally from side to side just going over railroad tracks. I have an aftermarket cruise control and a Weathertech bug deflector, so a couple of irritants are taken care of. I just had the car lifted 1-1/2" and I'll pull the ground effects stuff off. Should look like a proper Ute.
...now for the real comment. I totally agree on no. 1, there's times that I wanna put one of my brother's "0 to 60 in a few minutes" stickers that he has on his 59 VW bus!! The meh at best ebay armrests cover the e brake and just don't look right, I also just hold the e brake or grope the wife but my main complaint after the speed is the damn task in getting to the rear speakers! Having to remove all the rear stuff sucks!! Good list dude, when we seeing something on the tank!?
Ok... my wife has an 05 , we live in Florida and her scion air condition is really cold and her scion is not a pig and I own a corvette. It is a 5 speed and it does have a cold air intake which we bought that way. Seriously the thing gets up to speed pretty fast.
I live in maryland with an automatic. Drive it over the mountain at 100 mph every day. Just turn the od off and im passing everyone. But i also live near a gravel pit and the front of my box has 1000 chips in the paint. The thin paint would be my only complaint. Still using stock headlight bulbs 16 years later.
Same here! Automatic, MD, don't live in the mountains but have driven in them, that OD button is a godsend. Having an automatic isn't bad either when you're road tripping with friends who can't drive stick.
Yeah, I can agree with the top 5. I have a 08 xB and a 06xb. And, yeah. Major difference between the 2. The 06 is slow as a snail, and even with a brand new AC system, it's "just enough" to be somewhat comfortable in the summer.
I have a 2009 and I put soundproofing in all the doors and back gate....that helped in cutting down on all the road noise...and when you close the door it sounds solid...not like a tin can without it....and it also added to the weight of the car to some degree. I love driving around in it...I find it very comfortable....I'm a driver for lyft and uber and it is the perfect vehicle for that....and I have gotten more compliments on this car and how "roomy it is" and "how quiet it is".....more compliments than all the other 15 cars I have owned in my life combined.
I love my 2015 2.5. None if these are an issue. It pulls HARD (manual models). Great AC. Armrest is great. Reasonable sound levels. Okay, some issues with debris scratching the hood. Unlike you, I absolutely love the dash! The seats look very cool, and comfy! The little mpg difference is totally worth the power increase. I really like the first gen, but vastly prefer the 2nd. Plus, it has much better safety scores. That was an absolute deal breaker (kid hauler:). Nice looking, XB! 👍 Vid!
I love the way the first gen looks but I live around a ton of highways and construction so I might get the second Gen instead of the first. It's a shame since I love the way the first Gen looks so much.
I drove mine up and down steep mountains in Tennessee and I was almost flooring the pedal and was barely going 40mph, it sucked. There was one point I was going down some crazy side road up a mountain and it was so steep I was afraid I couldn't even make it up there
Oh man I agree with you. I have one and when I first saw that center armrest, what a joke! But, my a/c works great! Yes it is COLD. I found out that looking at the a/c, heater control knobs, the knob on the far left side has s tendency for the wire coming off the back side attaching to the knob? Its a stiff piano style wire that is formed. Take care! 👽
06 auto here. on my 3rd xb now. front end, rock chipped af. came with an armrest! it's too low...my shoulder prevents my elbow from touching it...and the padding it uses seems like thin packing foam. my ac...and heat for that matter...3 is max for me. if on max, it can't keep up. engine must be at 2.5krpm. heat? i've legit had it on 4 and it turned my blue light back on. idling engine. only in extreme cold. i put 185/65/15 tires on it instead of 60 profile. runs way smoother. and yes it's slowwwwwww as hell. i removed the rear seats, spare tire from the rear (if you don't use the rear seats, do this!!!) it's way faster, much better gas mileage. gives you a better chance in traffic. lives 2,200 feet above sea level. i love this car
Agree with all ur points. Change my front windshield twice @ $350 a pop. I want to put some kind of clear tint on the outside, but it's "illegal." Wutever.🙄 Sometimes when I'm wanting to prop my arm up I put the passenger chair back forward so I have a huge arm rest. I notice I can do that when I was transporting my bike to the beach. But that means the passenger needs to sit in the back. As for the slowness, eh, I knew that when I bought it. I call it the cruiser not racer car. That's what I had the 350z for (key word- had). I had my share of pocket rockets - NX2000, 240sx, z. I don't miss em bc they always broke down. I may dislike the bad attributes of the xb but I love the car so much that I overlook em.
Bro I love my xB but unfortunately I have an automatic unfortunately. Even with a few mods, its slow as all get out bro!! You gotta keep feeding the hamsters under the hood to keep moving especially up hill. I think I got passed by a dude on a bicycle one time 😆. I love my little ride. Thanks for the great content 😎🤙🏽🤙🏽
I have to say man. I have every issue with the car that you do. DMV said I couldn't do a driving test cuz I had a crack in the window that was there since I bought it used. I replaced the window within 6 months. It was cracked again I hate the way it sounds in the highway and lack of good speaker mounting options and even when I took out the dash tweeter and modified it to put a 5 and 1/4-in coax cylinder still doesn't sound as good as anyone else's car because the windshield is so upright and there's no dampening in the doors. And I have not a medic so....
2 of my dislikes on the XB is the exhaust design with the cat and resonator. But number one by far was no factory option for cruise control. What were they thinking.
Mine has an armrest and the AC has been more than adequate. It is a little loud when the rpb's get up there. Guess I have the bigger engine because it's fast enough but I haven't driven in the mountains. Great car though. More pos than negs.
Bought our 2004 XB with 200,000 on it. Now at 220,000 and no problems. BUT...the windshield may be the original and it is badly pitted. At first, we thought it needed a cleaning, but found out it's little tiny pits across the entire surface. So, I'm choking on paying $350 for a new windshield but may have to :(
I have 2010 with armrest but it does suck lol my ac was great for the longest time until about a year ago, I miss it at its prime, I agree it gets blown all over...I love mine on the highway actually because its super comfortable
I just blew the engine out of a 2008 xb 5speed manual. It came with upgraded Gold KenStyle body kit, padded arm rests and gold interior styling. That car was so much fun to drive. You could really push it being a manual and I never had a problem needing more power on the freeway. Regularly cruised at 85mph without a problem. It definitely took a beating and had a ton of war wounds, only meant I didn't have to sweat every dent and scratch, it made great camping vehicle and was perfect for road trips. I'm gonna miss that box 😢
I owned an 06 for 9 years. No cruise control...would have loved Maybe 20 more horse power. That's it. She was very reliable, comfortable, could seat 5 adults or carry moped, pit bikes, 2x8 sheets of plywood and more. It had a lot of cargo capacity for s car with such a small footprint. There was recently an 06 for sale near me with only 80k...they wanted $8k for it...if I had had the money, I probably would have bought it. Many of them went past 250k miles. Toyota really F'd up with the 2nd gen. Some xb owners replaced theirs with the Kia soul...but the soul just isn't as good a vehicle...the roof slopes down in the back, the hatch is smaller and Kia reliable is hit and miss. The first gen xb was fun, go-kart like, commuter car that could haul lots of stuff and be personalized in many different ways. I don't know why Toyota doesn't try to bring it back.
I want to congratulate you, your channel is very good ... I am from Puerto Rico and here the Scion xb there are many. Thank you for all the information.
Did you ever look at a xB II, the second gen xB? I've had mine since 2009 and, yes, it's NOT a Lexus, but it wasn't as expensive either. Also, xB's aren't made any more. Mine has a sub woofer installed made for it BTW.
I have a 2010 Scion xb and I don't hate anything about it even though I need to replace the manifold/catalytic converter now to pass smog. Mine has an armrest/storage box with a padded top as well as a drop down arm rest attached to the seat, the air gets plenty cold for me and I'm perpetually hot so, it's blowing all year long. You're right about the bugs decorating the square front end and it's not a Ferrari for speed but, I drive like Mr Magoo anyway and tailgating is a pet peeve of mine that I just don't do so, I don't care. It also has cruise control and I can adjust the radio from the steering wheel. Has a cd player and a aux cord connection for my phone. Power windows and side view mirrors. My windows are tinted pretty dark and I haven't had any problems with the front windshield cracking (praise God) so far. It does burn alot of oil though. I'm probably gonna need to fix that eventually. If I had a complaint it would be how low it is. I have trouble navigating driveways and hit the parking blocks in parking lots sometimes because I pull up to close and damage the under side of the front skirt. I bought it used in 2020 with over 100,000 miles on it. I only use it for my gig work. Just so happy to have a paid for ride. Thanking God everyday. I can't complain. ❤
Lol I completely agree with all of the points. It really is a pain on the highway, how slow and loud it is. I wish they added a sixth gear or something but nice video as usual !
A 3sgte won't fit and would prob ruin it's precise handling cause of the heavy iron block. The 2zz and 4age have both been done. I'd imagine a Honda b16 or Ford Ecoboost from the fiesta would also work pretty well if you want a boostable sleeper
I beg to differ on your complaint about of the A/C, my 06 xb has great A/C and that's when I'm driving in full uniform, at rush hour in Houston during the summer months, hmmm maybe I got lucky, who knows?!
Yes the ac is weak. It's a small ac trying to cool a large room. I haven't done it yet but I'm betting a sheet hung up behind the driver seat to just cool the front would be a miracle in itself.
Yeah, my front end is pretty rock chipped up and replaced my windshield once…the AC does take a while to cool the car down when left out in the sun…I have the factory armrest and its ok, better than nothing, I guess…I have a Fujita cold air intake which actually helped from 2nd gear and up…I considered getting a lighter flywheel to help with acceleration, but heard that difficulty slowing down is a byproduct of it, so idk…
lol 😂 omg you are right about every single thing about the Xb especially the AC i live in Texas and it sucks especially at idol it’s like if you’re not moving it feels like the heater kicks on.
Well, they aren't really free. If you replace too many of them your insurance company will drop you. Every time you go through insurance they treat it like a claim. Thanks for watching.
Inherited one yesterday . 68k on 2005 with auto. Sat 6 months , jumped it , let warm up , punched it in a short driveway and took a while to get across driveway . Engine runs PERFECT , but it is the least powerful thing ive ever piloted . Actually seems dangerous if your stopped or need to move out of way , it moves but man there is zero and i mean zero shove . Its like an old small engined touring sno mobile like the throttle isnt conected kind of slow , it responds better then an anxient sno mobile with the goofy clutch but same kind of wait where is the power feeling . At 2400 lbs an honest 100 hp SHOULD make it go a little . Feels like 60 will take 15 - 20 seconds . I hope when moving and it kicks down and revs a bit it at least makes some noise like its trying . Starts RIGHT UP , no smoke only 68K sounds fine , idles great , in neuatral it responds and revs up fine and sounds great , in gear , to floor on short driveway and just meh and plenty of time to hit brakes on driveway that is maybe 3 car lengths long . Holy hell its SLOW . BEEN serviced immaculately with all records and stamps from toyota . All fluids immaculate . Everything works perfect , interior is great , windows , stereo , power mirrors , wipers , etc so not beat on , driven by PHD Lady with OCD with everything documented . It did sit for 6 months after she passed away but started in 1/4 sec after jumped with a new dead battery before she moved on so i assume its normal level of HOLY HELL thats slow . From a dig , its DEAD hopefully when moving its a little better . AC is straight dead though . Thats the only thing. That and i think the rear door hatch latch thing is jenky as it moves and some weird rubber thing that i guess you depress to open that does nothing so far . It was getting dark and not intuitive and afraid i would rip it off . But the rubber pushy squeezey thing felt maybe torn or worn out . I dont actually understand the mechanism and need to look in manual . It came with a real estate purchase for free , so . Has racks and really nice kayack as well i havent gotten to check out and not sure if her sister is gonna leave . She left the car and signed over so i hope so , its in a cover with front sticking out and looks cool / high end and fun. Live near plenty of long creeks and places for using it and like upper body work outs so hopefully i can use it with bad back a little if its just upper body mostly and sitting . Seats feel good for a guy missing discs in back / half a cripple . Very basic and kinda cheap but kinda OK . Never been in one before . Seems to have fone well for 20 years in mountains with snow etc and no body rot . Seems it may have some very thick rubberized undercoating on unibody frame , dont know if thats stock or done after . But exhaust looks brand new despite original and only brakes and coils show surface rust as well as steel wheels . Might need new rear drums i reckon but pedal is solid and it stops hard and hopedully rust wears itself off . My 4 wheel 2019 car makes noise and freezes if not driven for 2-5 days . But drums sitting for 6 months might be jenky . SLOW THOUGH , HOLY HELL.
I've had my 2006 xB since 2012, and the only thing that really annoys me is the rattling noises. Everything in the back around the hatch, rattles, clanks and squeaks, and it's really hard to tell what's doing it. It used to drive Lyft passengers insane. The noises don't seem to be drivetrain related, but is strongest at certain vibrations at low RPM, driving really fast at a constant speed, or hitting bumps. I just blast music now to offset it. I had the center armrest in my xb when I bought it from my uncle. I got angry and something and fairly lightly hit my fist into it and the whole thing cracked off, revealing a wooden dowel rod, holding it together. I don't know if that's how they're put together at the factory or what happened.
As I understand it the original XB had less than a 1.8 liter engine (1.5). I have a 2012 and it has a nice sized 4 cylinder 2.4 liter, 158 hp engine! Toyota even puts them in some of their small pick up trucks. So, I have no complaints about power. Also, I've got a 5 speed manual, a comfortable armrest and cruise control too! : - )
I live in Texas and yea the AC sucks in the car, luckily I have a 5 speed in mine, but yes still very slow at highway speeds, but it’s a blast in the back roads, but still, I love my Xb and there my fave vehicles I ever owned,
I’ve got a 2011 and the one thing that pisses me off on the daily is… The G D sun visors only cover half of the side windows and don’t extend! I have the morning sun in my eyes on my whole commute.
You could either tint your side windows depending on your local laws, or get rain vents that install on the outside that are tinted. May help with your situation.
I noticed this problem, when driving my Lexus RX. The Lexus does have the ability to slide the sun visor to where you need it. Maybe you could pick up a pair of used Lexus RX sun visors at a scrap yard and fit them to your Scion, it's on my list of personal mods.
@@pjrazvoza4343 Very good suggestion!, this was bothering me again today so I think I'll look online for some of those and see if I can make them fit. your reply is perfectly timed as it was a payday on Friday. Thank you so much.
Only reason I have a Scion xB is because they don't make a xB super duper! LOL 2006 120,000 and still crankin'.. YES, loud, blows all over the road, rear handle breaks off, driver side door handle broke, brakes click when stopping, 4 new Coil packs... but 30 mpg!
Runner up for top 5: Wiper speed option. The intermittent is often too fast (or often) and you get that dry rub across the windshield in light rain. I basically work the wipers manually half of the time.
Grab a wiper stalk from a Pontiac Vibe in the junkyard. It's plug and play and will give you 8 more speeds for intermittent. I featured it in one of my videos. Thanks for watching!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Just changed the wiper stalk out last weekend. Piece of cake and it works great. Thanks for the info. 16 years later and still modding it.
Brandon...don't be a hater! Hating on the poor xB..LOL. Even an xB Hating video is still an xB video. So it's still great. Thanks for a needed diversion from a very tough week.
I have an 06 xB manual and I hate that there are no map lights just that one dome light in the center which is pretty lame because it isn't bright enough.
You had me cracking up, mine 2004 XB is automatic and it’s daaaamn slow you right 😂 😂 . I guess that’s one sacrifice to endure in return for its reliability and 307,061 miles 17 yrs later 😂 😂
Hey so I heard these consume oil so have you used anything like marvel mystery or anything like that to help with that? I just bought mine but am learning about these little boxes so far.
Pay for your comforts, economy car. I run studdless snow tires year around @32 psi. This is my 3rd 2005 xb. My current xb is a 2.0 realease, header, short throw 5 speed. I've hit 1.25 g s in the turns. If I had a rear sway bar I could get more! I love my go carts. It's a "stow your ego" kind of machine. Windshield is a annual maintenance item, lol.
Adding to #2 has to be the cruise control, or lack thereof for highway driving. I know there are aftermarket options but how cheap was it not to have it as an option? Sheesh.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Hey there, so wouldn't a/c compressors, cruise control and front brake rotors interchange from the Echo and have you heard of an injector swap to boost power? Although it would hurt mileage a bit. Nice channel, have an '06 XB-subscribed.
Yeah, it's all those things, and there is very little cargo room with the seats up, but it's still the greatest car in the world, and there is nothing out there to replace it with! BTW, my 2005 came with a vinyl armrest that has a storage compartment. Not the best, but livable.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I know. But I didn't pay extra for it. In fact, I wasn't expecting it to be there, but they delivered the car that way, which was a pleasant surprise.
I was waiting for someone to mention that. I think it's safe to say that there isn't a 1st gen xB on the road today that has the original hatch handle. They always broke.
Depending on what state you live in, most insurance companies will replace a windshield free of charge, I had stone ships in mine and I live in Florida My insurance company had no trouble replacing it at no cost.
I have a Scion Xa and it has all the same negatives. In addition, this little car is not visible to big pickup trucks and you really have to drive defensively because you are nearly invisible to high-profile vehicles, especially when they are backing up in parking lots, etc. I have a bra on the front-end due to all of the road damage from stones and road debris.
I hate the (1) Rust on the sides (2) A.C. shape being circular (3) No Armrest (4) Tailgate handle broke (5) Lack of interior lights Overall tho i love this car, it's so safe, peppy in the city, fuel efficient, and my favorite part -is it's roomy affff
i got a 2012 scion xd and it also doesnt have an armrest which is just so stupid imo. I bought the oem toyota one off amazon for like $80 and its tiny and cheap feeling, and doesn't even have a storage compartment. At this point i dont even use it anymore i just folded up a blanket and threw it between the seats. Not the most appealing, but works way better
hi Brandon today i purchased a 2013 scion xb. i found the trunk has no cover ( easy for thieves to see in and then break in. i drove it around the neighborhood and liked it. signed a kizillon papers i paid cash. rouned out after all said was done around $18000. i know! so finally i get to drive it home from san jose ca. to san francisco ca. it was so noisy like you said. i mean really noisy. i have a splitting head ache. it only has 42 thousand original miles. new crappy tires and unfortunately white paint. 1 owner. omg i dont know how to quite the noise. my a/c is great.i dont mind the arm rest. iam still having a serious headache from the noise. how do i get a cover for the trunk.? mine had so much pick up and great breaks so far. please HELP ME. find a cargo cover. i havent tried the pioneer cd player yet and the radio was a dud so far. thank you for listening. anyone out there know how to get a cargo cover? and PLEASE PLEASE help me with the noise.there must be some thing. sincerely mira
Love my 06 XB but yes it is slow. I live in Florida so no hills for me so it does ok. I will say that the only car I've owned that was slower was my diesel chevette lol.
What exhaust you runnin, mine is hanging by a thread… as in its rusted so bad it’s got a cylindrical hole around the spot welding lol and what head unit?
When I saw the title I thought you were kidding... thought... what can you not like about it. Its awesome... Then I started to say... Yup, Yup, Most Def, Yup, and Yup. THE AC IS THE WORST!!! Wondering if it can completely be swapped... a corolla's AC is 10 times better. Great video.
I have a 2012 and i don't have any of these problems. Mine isn't slow. It does 0 to 60 in 7.7 second . Which is pretty impressive for an econobox. It easily passes cars on the highway and i have pushed on the highway up to 150kph to 160kph with ease. It has really quick pick up acceleration for passing. I'v never tested it full out, due to all the cops in my area. But i'm sure this thing will do over 220kph. No problem. But i don't need it to do over 130kph because thats about as fast as i,m willing to chance on our big highways. I live in Canada. So anything over 50kph over the posted speed limit, is considered reckless and dangerous driving or stunt driving and racing. Drivers who are involved in stunt driving or street racing are subject to: an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension an immediate 14-day vehicle impoundment at roadside (whether it is your vehicle or not) a minimum fine of $2,000 and a maximum fine of $10,000 a jail term of up to six months a post-conviction licence suspension of: a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years for the first conviction a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years for a second conviction a lifetime suspension, reducible after 10 years under certain criteria, for a third conviction a lifetime suspension, non-reducible, for a fourth and subsequent convictions six demerit points a mandatory driver improvement course, upon conviction Other penalties If you do get your licence back your going to pay through the nose in insurance fees. But thats only after you insurance company will probably cancel you. And a new company may not even sighn you up.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers that’ll just keep the dirt out lol! It’s the heat you wanna worry about. Hot days will make the air expand in that crack and it could shoot out, especially if the A/C is on the windshield. You should be able to get it fixed for less than $15 or $20!
Shocked to hear air-conditioning is just okay and acceleration is bad. My compact has a much smaller engine and blows really cold. xB has a Camary motor and they are known to be reliable and speedy. Got to check them out.
My five things I hate about my Scion xB is the tires they're so small the highway driving number four the feeling of the bumps on the street number three number two is it's so lightweight and number one is it's like a Lego toy my Scion is a 2005 xB it was given to me and the only maintenance on it was minor maintenance and it was always taken back to the factory for work . One owner . And me makes two owners I like sitting high in trucks but what can I say it was only a dollar. With 129,000 mi on it she's still purring like a kitten but right now she needs a muffler
The automatic tranny with that mighty Toyota Echo power plant really makes it a motoring experience! A little more slope on the windshield angle would probably have made a world of difference for highway driving, without killing the visual charm of the ol' Toastermobile. One peeve of mine is the location of the drink holders. They're small. And they're shoved under the radio/heat-AC/ashtray-phone charger, RIGHT IN FRONT OF THE SHIFTER! A can of soda can be maneuvered fairly easily to sip while driving. But any 21st century travel cup? Most ewater bottles? You're knocking your charger cable out. It just silly. As roomy as the Toastermobile's interior is, it seems like some ergonomics guru could have stolen a few extra inches for somewhere in that spacious cabin, so you could stay hydrated, gracefully, while driving. I still love my Toastermobile, even with these legitimate, but minor gripes. The thing runs like a Timex.
I’ve always loved the styling of this gen over the later ones. This car is a classic like those Chevy Vans from the 80s
Agreed!
The Box is what it is and that’s why we love them.
True. Well said. No car is perfect.
Real talk my xB is Uber cool
Yeah I like my shitty armrest
The thing i hate the most about my box is that they didn't come standard with cruise control. I've done 12hr road trips by myself and that was brutal.
Mine came with cruise control, installed by the first owner and I removed it. Lol.
You mean theres one worse than mine?
Yeah I have an 05 and no cruise control sucks for long trips
I agree. So spend $500 to $1000 and put one in! That's what I did and it's fantastic.
I think I'm one of the few people who actively dislikes cruise control. The last time I tried to use it, I nodded off behind the wheel. I'm definitely more alert when my foot is on the gas pedal.
I have to turn my AC down all the time because it's too cold. And I'm with you in the 90+ degree weather
Mine has had at least three windshields. I'm jealous of those Nevada roads!! Thanks for watching!
All valid points, I felt that Toyota should have used the engine from the Corolla of the same years. With the bigger 1.8 liter engine it would made your #s 3, 2, 1 better on the XB.
Yes, that would have been awesome. Thanks for watching!
I live on a hill and had to floor it on 2nd gear and it still couldn't break 20mph in some areas.
Highway was also super loud it's true lol.
Cold is all relative. Like I said, mine blows cold air too, but nothing like my Jeep Commander. That thing blows icicles!! Thanks for watching!
Love the person in the truck waving at you as they pass you on the hwy
Things I learned today:
My armrest was a fancy dealership add on 😏 (I actually like it 🤷🏽♂️) and my AC is actually not broken 🤣 I've been wondering why it's "adequate" at best 😅
And learning is fun!! Thanks for watching!
#2 the lady in the pickup truck passing you was waving 🤪😂🤣🤣
I saw that!
This sounds like all the problems with a hot rod model A, except for the speed
The xB is a little better on gas. Lol
That's a great point about the rear speakers, also the fact that is has drum brakes in the rear is pretty lame. Thank for always watching!
Ok... my wife has an 05 , we live in Florida and her scion air condition is really cold and her scion is not a pig and I own a corvette. It is a 5 speed and it does have a cold air intake which we bought that way. Seriously the thing gets up to speed pretty fast.
Cold air intake you say...
Nice! We did a sound deadening video on the xB and we agree. It makes a huge difference. Thanks for watching!
👍 Vid!
Some 2nd Gens can have oil burn issues.
@@zythr9999 pretty uncommon on the 2015.
I love the way the first gen looks but I live around a ton of highways and construction so I might get the second Gen instead of the first. It's a shame since I love the way the first Gen looks so much.
@@ketchup_lube I dont know, I’ve really warmed up to the 2 and 2.5, a lot. I think of low riders too much, now, with the 1st.
Take care! 👽
06 auto here. on my 3rd xb now. front end, rock chipped af. came with an armrest! it's too low...my shoulder prevents my elbow from touching it...and the padding it uses seems like thin packing foam. my ac...and heat for that matter...3 is max for me. if on max, it can't keep up. engine must be at 2.5krpm. heat? i've legit had it on 4 and it turned my blue light back on. idling engine. only in extreme cold. i put 185/65/15 tires on it instead of 60 profile. runs way smoother. and yes it's slowwwwwww as hell. i removed the rear seats, spare tire from the rear (if you don't use the rear seats, do this!!!) it's way faster, much better gas mileage. gives you a better chance in traffic. lives 2,200 feet above sea level. i love this car
btw, auto in 4th gear at 70mph is 3,000rpm
Lol I can absolutely agree with everything you've listed but I wouldn't have it any other way! Great vid as usual!
It's still a great car! Thanks for watching!
What I love about the scion is the way it looks. It looks like a cube and I find the look of it really funny. It's just funny to see the car in public
They really stand out and have their own unique look. Thanks for watching.
I have to say man. I have every issue with the car that you do.
DMV said I couldn't do a driving test cuz I had a crack in the window that was there since I bought it used.
I replaced the window within 6 months. It was cracked again
I hate the way it sounds in the highway and lack of good speaker mounting options and even when I took out the dash tweeter and modified it to put a 5 and 1/4-in coax cylinder still doesn't sound as good as anyone else's car because the windshield is so upright and there's no dampening in the doors.
And I have not a medic so....
Watch my other videos on how to improve the sound of your stereo and you'll fix your sound problem. Thanks for watching.
2 of my dislikes on the XB is the exhaust design with the cat and resonator. But number one by far was no factory option for cruise control. What were they thinking.
Yeah, it's surprising. Thanks for watching.
Mine has an armrest and the AC has been more than adequate. It is a little loud when the rpb's get up there. Guess I have the bigger engine because it's fast enough but I haven't driven in the mountains. Great car though. More pos than negs.
Agreed!!
Go the junkyard and grab another engine. They are a dime a dozen. Thanks for watching.
I live in Colorado with an 06 automatic. I love it! And yeah it's slow but it's not bad at all. Faster then my 79 cressida. Slower then my 14 sti lol.
My after 60mph steering shake a little, any experience with that issue.Other than that is amazing and work for long time.
Thank you very much! Thanks for watching!
Did you ever look at a xB II, the second gen xB? I've had mine since 2009 and, yes, it's NOT a Lexus, but it wasn't as expensive either. Also, xB's aren't made any more. Mine has a sub woofer installed made for it BTW.
I've spent lots of time in that car and it's a great car, but to me, it's not an xB. Scion should have called it something different.
They make a great work vehicle. Glad you are enjoying it! Thanks for watching.
Lol I completely agree with all of the points. It really is a pain on the highway, how slow and loud it is. I wish they added a sixth gear or something but nice video as usual !
Yes!! A 6th gear would have been awesome!! Thanks for watching!!
OK so I have a o5 and on the hi way at 60 on up its at 3k rpm is this normal? I'm scared thinking ima burn it up .is that normal?
I've been thinking of swapping my 05 with the second gen Motor or a 3sgte. I love the car but torque is my biggest complaint
Good luck with that. Let me know how it goes!
Oh I forgot to mention I pretty much agree with the other four things u hate, LOL keep up the great work and vids!!!
Cold is all relative. Like I said, mine blows cold air too, but nothing like my Jeep Commander. That thing blows icicles!! Thanks for watching!
Yes the ac is weak. It's a small ac trying to cool a large room. I haven't done it yet but I'm betting a sheet hung up behind the driver seat to just cool the front would be a miracle in itself.
I'm sure it would work, but I don't want to be driving around a toaster with a shower inside of it.
A lighter flywheel would help. I have one in the Prelude and it's noticeable. Thanks for watching!!
lol 😂 omg you are right about every single thing about the Xb especially the AC i live in Texas and it sucks especially at idol it’s like if you’re not moving it feels like the heater kicks on.
Lol. Yes!! When it's really hot, most of the time I drive around with the windows down AND the AC on. Thanks for watching!
So happy that windshield are "free" in Florida. I've been through so many because of I-4 and other roads in Orlando and Tampa
Swap out the auto for a 5-speed and your problem will be kinda solved.
I live in Texas and yea the AC sucks in the car, luckily I have a 5 speed in mine, but yes still very slow at highway speeds, but it’s a blast in the back roads, but still, I love my Xb and there my fave vehicles I ever owned,
Agreed. Me too. Thanks for watching!
I’ve got a 2011 and the one thing that pisses me off on the daily is…
The G D sun visors only cover half of the side windows and don’t extend!
I have the morning sun in my eyes on my whole commute.
Tint the windshield!
You could either tint your side windows depending on your local laws, or get rain vents that install on the outside that are tinted. May help with your situation.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Tinting his windshield, would not block the sun coming through his side windows. Which is his complaint. Just an observation.
I noticed this problem, when driving my Lexus RX. The Lexus does have the ability to slide the sun visor to where you need it. Maybe you could pick up a pair of used Lexus RX sun visors at a scrap yard and fit them to your Scion, it's on my list of personal mods.
@@pjrazvoza4343 Very good suggestion!,
this was bothering me again today so I think I'll look online for some of those and see if I can make them fit.
your reply is perfectly timed as it was a payday on Friday. Thank you so much.
Only reason I have a Scion xB is because they don't make a xB super duper! LOL 2006 120,000 and still crankin'.. YES, loud, blows all over the road, rear handle breaks off, driver side door handle broke, brakes click when stopping, 4 new Coil packs... but 30 mpg!
I have the Toyota version of this car which is the bB and they do have the arm rest.
It makes a big difference I tell ya that.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Thank you for this. I have been wondering if there was a newer model I could upgrade with.
@@notnotsure6244 A Toyota Matrix will also work.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers Just changed the wiper stalk out last weekend. Piece of cake and it works great. Thanks for the info. 16 years later and still modding it.
@@notnotsure6244 The mods never stop! When they do, you're old!! Keep wrenching!
Brandon...don't be a hater! Hating on the poor xB..LOL. Even an xB Hating video is still an xB video. So it's still great. Thanks for a needed diversion from a very tough week.
I don't hate it, you know that!! It's just not perfect. No car is. Thanks for watching!
I have an 06 xB manual and I hate that there are no map lights just that one dome light in the center which is pretty lame because it isn't bright enough.
My 06 had pretty cold ac when I got it.
You're lucky!
You had me cracking up, mine 2004 XB is automatic and it’s daaaamn slow you right 😂 😂 . I guess that’s one sacrifice to endure in return for its reliability and 307,061 miles 17 yrs later 😂 😂
Big facts. You can't have it all!!! But seriously, wouldn't walking be faster? Lol
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers True that, and walking I will get fresh natural air and burn some calories in the process. lol
Don’t feel bad I have the auto too but at least there is an O/D off button…Lol!
@@ephraim.1964 Where?
Hey so I heard these consume oil so have you used anything like marvel mystery or anything like that to help with that? I just bought mine but am learning about these little boxes so far.
They do not burn oil. If yours does, it's been abused by the previous owner. Thanks for watching.
How did the stock dome light not make that list 😅
Lol. I never use it!
Scion did a good job of fixing problems 3 & 4 with the gen 2.
True. The 2nd Gen's AC is ice cold!!!!
Though they used an engine with possible oil burn issues.
My 5 is:
1.Door locking and unlocking problem alone with the actuator.
2.no temperature gauge
3.so slow
4.rear drum brake
5.rock chipped on the hood
Rear drum brakes were #6 for me. Thanks for watching!
Adding to #2 has to be the cruise control, or lack thereof for highway driving. I know there are aftermarket options but how cheap was it not to have it as an option? Sheesh.
Yeah, agreed.
No. Not that I know of. Check out Yarisworld.com. Thanks for watching!
The ECHO didn't have it standard or an option either.
Trying to race one in my 96 civic lx, looking for it's weaknesses lol
If yours is an auto and the Box is a manual, you should lose.
In #2 near the end of it someone waved at you in the background lol
Yeah, it's all those things, and there is very little cargo room with the seats up, but it's still the greatest car in the world, and there is nothing out there to replace it with! BTW, my 2005 came with a vinyl armrest that has a storage compartment. Not the best, but livable.
That's the armrest I was referring to in the video. It gets the job done, but doesn't fit the car very well, in my opinion. Thanks for watching!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I know. But I didn't pay extra for it. In fact, I wasn't expecting it to be there, but they delivered the car that way, which was a pleasant surprise.
I know a few peoole with these. They oasted my cinnamon raisin bagel once. Came out too dark. I'm adding that as #6 on the list
mine actually came with the armrest and i hate it, it always gets in the way while i'm shifting
Yes, Power, or lack of, is number one. But what about the weak rear door latch that eventually breaks.
I was waiting for someone to mention that. I think it's safe to say that there isn't a 1st gen xB on the road today that has the original hatch handle. They always broke.
i always wanted to add a wind shield deflector. my window have 5 seperate cracks in it all from rocks
I hate the (1) Rust on the sides (2) A.C. shape being circular (3) No Armrest (4) Tailgate handle broke (5) Lack of interior lights
Overall tho i love this car, it's so safe, peppy in the city, fuel efficient, and my favorite part -is it's roomy affff
Honestly this car would be so much more popular if it came with the 1zz
Agreed
i got a 2012 scion xd and it also doesnt have an armrest which is just so stupid imo. I bought the oem toyota one off amazon for like $80 and its tiny and cheap feeling, and doesn't even have a storage compartment. At this point i dont even use it anymore i just folded up a blanket and threw it between the seats. Not the most appealing, but works way better
Homeosis, ya need a SPAL 7” or bigger pusher fan on the front of it for city traffic.
Also, seriously look into good ceramic window tint!
That ceramic tint is $$$$!!
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I haven’t checked yet. Guys in my Camry group say they got it done in the 300s
Yeah, that sounds about right. It's about twice as much as a normal tint job.
hi Brandon today i purchased a 2013 scion xb. i found the trunk has no cover ( easy for thieves to see in and then break in. i drove it around the neighborhood and liked it. signed a kizillon papers i paid cash. rouned out after all said was done around $18000. i know! so finally i get to drive it home from san jose ca. to san francisco ca. it was so noisy like you said. i mean really noisy. i have a splitting head ache. it only has 42 thousand original miles. new crappy tires and unfortunately white paint. 1 owner. omg i dont know how to quite the noise. my a/c is great.i dont mind the arm rest. iam still having a serious headache from the noise. how do i get a cover for the trunk.? mine had so much pick up and great breaks so far. please HELP ME. find a cargo cover. i havent tried the pioneer cd player yet and the radio was a dud so far. thank you for listening. anyone out there know how to get a cargo cover? and PLEASE PLEASE help me with the noise.there must be some thing. sincerely mira
You bought a completely different car than the one reviewed in this video. Thanks for watching.
It's too slow but gets good gas mileage
Agreed
Love my 06 XB but yes it is slow. I live in Florida so no hills for me so it does ok. I will say that the only car I've owned that was slower was my diesel chevette lol.
I have one….I don’t love it but it runs. Already at 300k and hasn’t failed me yet. Didn’t have high expectations so that helped
What exhaust you runnin, mine is hanging by a thread… as in its rusted so bad it’s got a cylindrical hole around the spot welding lol and what head unit?
It's DME. It's been discontinued. Thanks for watching.
@@ExtremeDailyDrivers I was looking for that sale one yesterday, a lot have been discontinued. Imma have to retro for something! 😂
Low n slow toaster fans!! Love it!
Facts!! You never have to worry about people thinking you want to race in this thing! Thanks for watching!
Thanks for your opinions on the Box 📦……..TT……yeah man 👍🏼
When I saw the title I thought you were kidding... thought... what can you not like about it. Its awesome... Then I started to say... Yup, Yup, Most Def, Yup, and Yup. THE AC IS THE WORST!!! Wondering if it can completely be swapped... a corolla's AC is 10 times better. Great video.
Ha. Yeah, it's not perfect. Thanks for watching.
My AC on my 06 blows very cold and I’m a big guy
Cold is relative.
My a/c works great, put a sheet across the front seats area, I'm at 275lbs I keen all the a/c I can get
Great car! I have the 04. Do you still have the stock rear bumper lip?
No, sorry
Do you know why it's so slow on highway? 'cause it does not wanna TICKETS
Drivers who are involved in stunt driving or street racing are subject to:
an immediate 30-day driver’s licence suspension
an immediate 14-day vehicle impoundment at roadside (whether it is your vehicle or not)
a minimum fine of $2,000 and a maximum fine of $10,000
a jail term of up to six months
a post-conviction licence suspension of:
a minimum of one year and a maximum of three years for the first conviction
a minimum of three years and a maximum of 10 years for a second conviction
a lifetime suspension, reducible after 10 years under certain criteria, for a third conviction
a lifetime suspension, non-reducible, for a fourth and subsequent convictions
six demerit points
a mandatory driver improvement course, upon conviction
Other penalties
If you do get your licence back your going to pay through the nose in insurance fees. But thats only after you insurance company will probably cancel you. And a new company may not even sighn you up.
Seal that crack up! You can stop it and make it almost invisible, and if you don’t fix it the crack will spread across the windshield
I'm going to put some tape on it. Lol.
Man my AC is freezing cold I have to turn it down sometimes and I’m in south Texas where 80 is cold lol
Hate??? The XB??? Never! Lol
Watch the video!!!!!
Shocked to hear air-conditioning is just okay and acceleration is bad. My compact has a much smaller engine and blows really cold. xB has a Camary motor and they are known to be reliable and speedy. Got to check them out.
The first gen xB has a 1.5 liter engine. You are talking about the second gen xB. Thanks for watching.
Great point about the cup holders and windshield. Thanks for watching!
What’s that mod above your head inside the car… looks like a place to put your shades. Does that come with the Scion XB?? Thanks
I did a video on it. Just search my channel in the xB Playlist. Thanks for watching!
5:28 The lady in the car next to you giving us all a wave. :)
Yep!
the Kia Soul is the winner of the box cars, also looks better 😄
We'll agree to disagree on that one.
Unless your engine catches fire.
