    More than 20 years ago, when my dad passed away, I inherited his 1925 Model T Touring car. I live about 17 miles away from dad's place, so I thought that would be a nice drive home. On the way home, the T suddenly quit running and would not start no matter the effort. In the course of troubleshooting, I removed the commutator and reached down to check the roller. The spring had come loose, and when I tried to stretch it back in place, to my horror, I saw that roller spring go shooting away! Well I was parked on a gravel road; though I searched diligently, there was no finding it!
    I didn't even own a trailer, so I was a little panicked at that point. However, I happened to have a pen in my pocket with the little retractable click top. I unscrewed the cap, removed the little spring and it actually looked a lot like that timer spring! I stretched that Bic pen spring in place, replaced the commutator, and the car started right up! The rest of the drive home was perfect!

    Mitch, you're back!
    May I say you're one of the OG's that got me into this kind of thing.
    I'm 25 now and decided on a Model A, but I vividly remember being fascinated by your driving tutorials, lube job instructions and head gasket swap :D

    Hello Mitch good to see you again with the model t. That wasn't mentioned the ignition timer. The first one must've lasted since you brought it from America.

    How difficult is it to find parts in Aus? Does the shipping or import costs get prohibitive?

    • @ModelTMitch
      @ModelTMitch  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      There is Henry's Model T, A & Rod Parts down in Victoria where I get some parts from. Other than that, I get them from Snyders in the USA. Shipping can be expensive from the states, so I try to buy local if possible.

    Hello sir Im interested from what material is the timer wire made and leads from buzz coils to spark plugs? Ya know wanted always to modifi other engines to buzz coils but most of the time cars who are younger aged have wire resistance problems,lenght wire calculation and so one so I'm curiuse about that topic how is that calculated or correct ignition system components chosen ? What engine rpm range is effective on buzz coil ignition systems? Litel bit more detailed

    • @ModelTMitch
      @ModelTMitch  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Just copper wire, insulated with rubber, then coated in fabric. No fancy HT cables 100 years ago 😁

      Thanks for answering do you know how exactli the magneti Type worked ignition? I assume those are lead acid Baterrys right does the ground side have capacitor ? Ya know the switch disconnects only baterry magneto and stops engine but is that AC wave going to the baterry - terminal ? If I remember corectli some ford model t hade Bouth ignition types including starter and generators If IAM not mistaking?
