Stacey often gets lost in the dialogue about the case. It's important that actual justice be served, but JUST as important that we not lose sight of the woman who died. Thank you for covering this case.

    Additional info;
On 2015. The Innocence Project was able to use its power to force the DA to investigate more items for DNA, including Stacy’s clothes. Reed’s DNA was found on it.
Since it was a literal facepalm to The Innocence Project they spun a defense and said that the real killer had changed her clothes from the previous night, the night Reed claimed to have been with her. Judge agreed with them on this case

People often make a big deal of finding a short person's vehicle with the seat pushed all the way back, making the assumption that someone taller must've driven... but I am 5'2" and ALWAYS push my driver's seat ALL the way back when I get where I am going. It makes getting back in a little easier. So if something happens to me, my seat will be PUSHED all the way BACK. If it's up close like it is when I'm driving, and I'm not in the car, THAT would be suspish.

Another point that needs to be made is no one saw Stacey leave for work. Yet the state claims she left for work and was abducted while driving the truck to work by a superhuman Rodney Reed who had no transportation and somehow left no trace of himself in the truck that was actually never processed nor is there any record of the truck ever being turned in as evidence to the Austin DPS crime lab. There is evidence that the truck was given back to Jimmy the very next day after Stacey's body was found. The sales receipt on the truck when he sold it says it was sold on April 24, 1996, which is a day after Stacey's body was found. He sold his truck to Gold's Chevrolet.

I live in a small town in Texas and unfortunately the idiotic “views” of black people is still very present in today’s time. My best friend is a gorgeous black woman who isn’t comfortable coming to my home because she’s afraid of the possibility of being targeted by local residents or police. It’s a damn shame that we still have people in the world that have ignorant backwoods thinking in 2021! Makes me furious! I do believe that he did not get a fair trail. Yes he’s a piece of crap but he still has a right to a FAIR trail and to be judged by a panel of his PEERS. Rant over lol

I've been watching nothing but your videos lately for my true crime fix and can't get over how amazingly researched they are, you're amazing!
As for this case, I do not believe that he got a fair trial at all, but I keep going back and forth on whether I think he's guilty. Yes, there's a lot of evidence against him, but I think there are too many things that don't line up. ESPECIALLY the beer cans and the fact the belt hasn't been tested. Oh and the lividity!
I think if Reed isn't guilty, Jimmy found out about the affair, and was drinking with his cop friends and getting angry about it, and decided to kill her. Maybe she went to pick him up from drinking and he killed her and his friends helped him cover it up. Maybe she was left in the back of the truck while they figured out what to do, and that's where the lividity happened. Salmela was one of the first on the scene, that could explain the not wearing gloves and improper handling of DNA; if he was involved, improper handling would explain away any evidence with his DNA or prints. Then four months later he apparently kills himself, it looks suspicious IMO. but if it truly was a suicide, then I think the question is WHY was he suicidal? Maybe out of guilt? Hell, maybe he wasn't there (only Hall was mentioned to have been drinking with Jimmy), but he helped cover it up. There are just TOO MANY aspects that don't make sense if Reed did it. Then again, it fits his MO. Although, I did just have the thought that what if Jimmy found out about the affair, knew who it was, looked him up at work, saw his record and waited until she saw him again and did a copy cat? I don't know, that one I haven't thought through too much, its 3am here in Australia and I should probably sleep (I say like I'm not going to continue watching your videos lol)

Some facts to consider against Rodney:
1.) Stacey’s family never knew she and Fennel were fighting.
2.) The seat of the car where Stacey was murdered at was fixed to fit Rodney’s size.
3.) Jimmy probably would not have known how to fix the car seat for Rodney’s size.
4.) On the initial interview, Rodney said she did not know Stacy and signed a form about it.
5.) Only when confronted that his sperm was found did he change his story.
6.) Stacey’s family did not know she was seeing Rodney
7.) Did Jimmy clean the car before he traded it? If he did not, it would mean that he has full on confidence that he was never involved in the murder.
8.) Rodney lived close to where Stacy’s body was found
9.) Rodney uses the same tactic with a previous rape accusation of him. That he did not know the lady. But when confronted that his semen was found on the girl, he said that they were intimate. And he was acquitted of the charge because of this.
10.) All 7 previous rape cases against Rodney had dna kits consistent with Rodney’s. In these rape cases included was a 12 year old, a disabled person and a murder victim
10.5) There are photos circulating online that James Slaughter was the one who raped the 12 year old. In truth, it’s an affidavit for a search warrant…which later excluded James as the culprit
11.) Rodney was only found to be a suspect a few years later after the Stacy’s death.
12.) Rodney was not convicted of the other rape cases because it was put on pause
13.) Jimmy did not point to Rodney Reed as a suspect.
14.) Jimmy to Connie Lear was not a rape charge. But inappropriate sexual misconduct. Seems like the judge disagreed that it was rape.
15.) The 12 year old girl in Bastrop in which Reed’s semen was found was also sodomized, similar to Stacy.
16.) Of the two assault/rape cases against Rodney, one happened 6 months before he was convicted, while the other was 6 months after he was convicted to Stacy murder.
17.) Reed was known by authorities to roam the streets at night and sometimes walk along the railroad tracks. He also occasionally sold drugs, which led to his arrest for delivery of cocaine in April 1997. By sheer coincidence, the DNA match from Reed’s alleged rape in May ’95 to the Stites case had come back positive for Reed the day he turned himself in on the petty drug charge.
18.) To believe Reed’s story it should be noted that Stites carried his semen home to her racist cop boyfriend that night, didn’t shower the next day and then went to work.
19.) Where are the notes, the photos, the stray hair, the little gifts that may have Stites’ fingerprints?
20.) The initial investigation was done by a different deprtment which Fennell had no contact with. The investigation was also done by a Texas ranger who outside either police stations. And the prosecution was done by somebody outside either police stations.
21.) The biggest indication that Fennell did not kill Stacy was that prior to the night of her murder she let Stacy borrow his truck to work.
22.) If anyone accused of a rape-murder can explain away their semen by claiming an illicit affair, as unlikely as the couple might seem, that would really clog the appeals courts.
23.) The beer can dna has been exonerated by court due to Reed’s experts continually performing sensitive dna testing that excluded Stacy, Hall and Selmela’s dna. If we include this as main evidence, then we include it as an even weaker evidence to the evidence where Reed’s saliva was found on her breasts.

Thank you for remembering Stacey 💕 she sounds like a beautiful lady!
Well seems like both Rodney and Jimmy are guilty of being yucky humans.
Im not sure I believe Rodney that it was an affair. With his past history. I’m a little concerned that perhaps Rodney had sex with Stacey a few days before as he said but not consensually and was possibly an attack and Stacey spoke to Jimmy about it and maybe wanted to report it and Jimmy didn’t believe her and possibly attacked her out of anger maybe killing her. But I honestly don’t know. I don’t understand the lack of testing. That’s ridiculous.
Personally I think they both are guilty for something tho. Just not 100% which way I go.
The families opinion speaks volumes tho.

Stacey did have a baby when she was 15yrs old. Her name is Demi. Her mother Carol, illegally had the baby adopted and kept it a secret from her father, who didn't find out he had a daughter until years after Stacey was murdered. The father's name is Greg Corner. He was actually a 23yr old grown man when he was having affairs with Stacey and Carol Stites allowed the relationship to continue. When Stacey got pregnant, Carol was gonna file statutory rape charges against Greg Corner but eventually she didn't because she had allowed the relationship btwn Stacey and Greg to continue. From whatI heard, Stacey was mad at Carol abt her adopting her baby to a family from the church they went to. Up until she was murdered by Jimmy.

police will often have their seatbelts bucked up behind them as they are driving because it allows for a quick exit from the vehicle if a situation occurs which requires the officer to make a sudden and quick exit from their vehicle. such as a car chase where the suspect ends up needing/ deciding to get out of their vehcl3 and try to escape on foot. this is a situation where every second matters and something that seems so small such as those mere seconds it would take for the officer to unbuckle his seatbelt, can actually make a major difference in the possible outcome. with the seatbelt bucked behind them, it's just one less thing the officer needs to do in a high-stress situation. i will literally pull into my driveway and go to get out of my car without realizing I still have my seatbelt on, now imagine a high-stress situation where you have so many things going through your head, your seatbelt probably wouldn't be at the top of your list of things to worry about in that moment lol. but anyways, the seatbelt might have been bucked because whoever had been driving wanted to be able to get out of the car quickly if they ended up needing to. (and the reason it is bucked behind people rather than just not bucked up at all, is because ) a lot of cars will beep or ding at you if the seatbelt is not bucked while a person is sitting in a seat, and b) leaving it unbuckled, still can end up interfering as the person is exiting the vehicle. i.e. your arm getting caught on the seatbelt or your ankle getting snagged, etc)
i obviously don't know for a fact that this is why the seatbelt was bucked in this specific scenario. but hopefully, it can give you a possible answer to your question lol

First time watching. I don't generally like the make up /crime combo because I feel like it cheapens the lives of the victims. It feels disrespectful. So, I watch a lot of tc TH-camrs but don't even try those with make up (after giving 4-5 individuals a chance).
Surprisingly, I DO feel genuine compassion from her. I only watched because I follow this case but I'm about to go check out more of her content.
As for the case, I have no idea what happened. It's almost impossible when this young woman was (likely) dating two abusive rapists. The fiance had a more power over the situation, and the racial motivation. Either could have done it.
I do know that Rodney Reed did not get a fair trial. He deserves a retrial with competent representation.
What he allegedly did to the 12 year old and others certainly earns him life in prison morally. Those cases should have been thoroughly procecuted. If he'd been given an appropriate sentence for the first, he wouldn't have been out to commit the others (possibly including Stacey).
Our broken system has multiple reasons to justify prison : reformation & rehabilitation, punishment, justice for the victim, keeping dangerous people off the streets. The problem, which I won't go into here, is when people are allowed to profit from prisons.
Rodney may belong in jail but Stacey deserves justice. The idea that he's a serial killer so we should let him rot even if he didn’t vomit this crime allows a criminal to go free.
Patten of behavior is important but each case should be based on the facts of that case. Sentences should be based on specific convictions. We don't get to mix & match.
Stacey deserves justice. There has yet to be enough investigation to determine what that looks like. We need to fight for forensic testing. We need to get to the truth of Stacy's murder.
It's just devastating to me to think about how young she was. Just 19. She had everything ahead of her.

Soon as you said that he was a cop and they didn’t really dig into suspecting him and gave him his car back that he then sold and they didn’t go retrieve for evidence. The fact that he was a cop and especially from the dawn of time they have been covering for each other and there’s been known corruption in the Police force not all but it’s way to many not to say 🤷🏼‍♀️. And the fact that they didn’t pull phone records to see where their phones pinged off which towers at whatever time or if it was turned off is insane. The fact that they’re DNA was at the crime scene on beer cans like why wasn’t that looked into thoroughly. Like you said one bad apple spoils the bunch.

You mean all three police departments that were involved in this case?
The Basdrop police department voluntarily handed the case to the Texas Rangers, because they felt like they shouldn't be dealing with a case where the main suspect is a police officer. Usually when you try to cover something up, you want as few people involved as possible.
the claim that Reed was framed is also beyond ridiculous because no one ever pointed the finger at Rodney Reed, not even Jimmy Fenell who was the main suspect in this case for many months. Reed only got connected to Stites' murder after he tried to rape another woman and his DNA matched the DNA found in Stites' body. So the entire "frame job" relied on Reed committing another crime. A frame job usually involves pointing the finger at the person who is supposed to be framed.
When it comes to the DNA evidence it is true that sperm can survive longer inside a woman than the prosecution claimed in the initial trial, however, they did not find Reeds DNA inside Stacy Stites but also on her body. This would mean that a woman, who - according to the defenses own witness - was extremely afraid of her husband finding out about her affair, had sex with Rodney Reed and didn't even take a shower afterwards. The defense even requested more DNA testing and the results produced even more evidence against Reed than they had during the initial trial.
To his claim of a consensual relationship:
No a single person outside his own family was able to confirm that claim and Reed has tried to use the same defense in several other rape allegations against him. Does anyone believe that all those women had consensual relationships with Reed and all turned on him and accused him of rape, including the 12 year old girl. And by coincidence the MO in these cases is very similar to the murder of Stacy Stites
The evidence against Reed is overwhelming and if you think he's innocent, you must be a moron.

The beer cans were subjected to more precise testing by Reeds expert, Dr. Johnson, and ruled out the cops and Stacy. The initial test wasn't dna in the way you're lead to believe. They were tested for a very generic marker, similar to blood typing. The beer cans are a non-issue.

I don't suggest viewing the crime scene photos, but the "lividity" that 'pay me enough and I'll testify Ron Goldman fought for 10 minutes with a severed jugular vein' Baden claims exists is only on her body parts exposed to the sun.

You really should look more into those penalty phase allegations, esp since you followed Lisa Tanner's narrative in his Wichita Falls case in the Connie York allegations. Rodney did not deny knowing Connie York nor did he deny having sex with her. What Connie York did was told a made up story and tried to stage a crime scene so that her live in boyfriend wouldn't find out that she messed around on him. The problem was she claimed Rodney broke into a window he was too big to fit through and the glass got on the outside of the window when he allegedly broke in. Plus she told a bunch of bad lies. That's how he got acquitted. There was no secret relationship claim. He claimed to have had a ONS with her after she came and picked him up after a pool party and she took him to her house. Connie also knew his BM, Lucy Eipper, at the time.

I also hope that they are able to have a relationship with staceys daughter. I feel like having Stacey daughter can be healing in it’s own way.
I don’t know how I feel about this case. It seems like both Rodney and Jimmy were both predators who made several women their pray. Her murder seemed to me like a crime of passion. It’s possible that Rodney did it but I’m not sure what motive he would have had. I lean more towards it being jimmy. Now this is complete speculation on my part but hear me out. It’s been said that jimmy was out with friends drinking the night before Stacey’s death. What if him and his two police friends whose dna are on the beer cans saw Stacey with Rodney together? What if they were in Jimmy’s truck drinking and driving and they picked Stacey up. Where there clearly would be anger. He takes his friends home or two their cars sooner than they expected causing them to leave their beer cans. Him and Stacey then got into a altercation where they were fighting. He could have killed her and then went home to think of his plan to get rid of staceys body or he killed her at home and then kept her body in the truck causing the weird fluid on the floor and the lavidied ( I’m not sure how to spell that weird.) he then left when Stacey would have normally left for work not to throw anything off. He could have either gotten someone to pick him up, walked or taken some sort of taxi back home. I hope that my theory makes sense. My daughter keeps distracting me. Either way I feel like the police didn’t do the stuff they were supposed to do. How do you give the truck back that fast? Even if they dusted for fingerprints im sure there is so much more evidence that they missed. I feel absolutely terrible for Stacey and her family. They didn’t deserve any of this.

The incredible steps that would have had to be taken to frame him is just short of physically impossible. 3 police agencies would have had to conspire, Fennel would have had to stage the body site and get the 30+ miles back home to Giddings in time to get the call from Stacey's mother before 7 AM. No one could have known how long it would take HEB employees to call her mother, and if Fennel didn't answer, her mom would know for certain Fennel was guilty....

Second, I am leaning towards thinking that Jimmy did this.

I absolutely 100% agree that he did NOT have a jury of "his peers." Anyone thinking rationally would have to agree. That's a reasonable assumption. I don't know if he's guilty. I THINK he is. And I'm glad I wasn't on that jury, quite honestly. His history suggests he is CAPABLE of this crime. But there are issues that are concerning as to whether we saw and heard ALL the evidence, particularly evidence that would benefit his defense. I hope that makes sense. I BELIEVE he's guilty. But there is enough doubt that giving him the death penalty is WRONG. Especially with the beer can DNA. That alone would constitute "reasonable doubt" for MOST jurors. If Jimmy is involved, I personally believe he used his cop buddies to commit the murder to keep his own hands clean. This one is tough for me.

I am not sure how much research you have done to understand the case. Seat belts get buckled by police officers and they sit on them, so the seatbelt alarm doesn’t go off and they need to get out of the car faster.
The truck was never signed to the DPS for forensics it was given back to Jimmy Fennell straight away, he even testified that he was able to swap the truck at Gold Chevrolet in Giddings on the 24th of April 1996 and his dad handled the transaction, even the prosecutor at the time stated I quote ‘Well he needed a ride’, so it was the next day after Stacy was found.
That mucus discharge you are talking about happens in dead bodies hours after death as the muscles relax.
Plus one rape case I have an issue with your narration is the 12-year-old because I actually can link you to the affidavit
The 12-year-old you say was raped by Rodney knew her attacker and named him James Slaughter who was a footballer even her best friend Joie Monfort testified that she told her the same thing. There is an affidavit written on September 7, 1989, by David Board that states that swabs taken from her at Seton Hospital matched James Slaughter including pubic hair, and its even signed by a district judge on the 1st of November 1989 for Slaughter to be issued a warrant.
I am not sure whether you actually know that Bayardo the pathologist later stated he wasn’t sure the belt was the killing instrument because the blood print actually around the neck had already sat in when the belt was tied around her, meaning she was already dead by the time the belt was put around her neck, and also there was no sodomy evidence in his report but only on the evidence stand.
Am not sure that you are aware that when they checked her first, she had no cigarette burns and they were discovered after post-mortem examination because the burns were not in the autopsy or crime scene which means it was done after the body was collected.

Not all of Stacey's family believe Rodney is guilty. And Stacey's brother was autistic and I heard his death was accidental. I'll have to ask Heather abt that.

@@BRATTERSTEIN there are several of Stacey's family members who believe Rodney is innocent. It's mainly her immediate family, her mother Carol and her three sisters, who believe he is guilty. (The third sister, Brenda, has not been in the media and I didn't even know she had a third sister until I talked to Heather and she told me abt Brenda). Crystall Dobbs and Debra Oliver are the main sisters who believe Rodney is guilty and call themselves victims advocates for "Rodney's victims" but accept Fennell as their brother despite his victims. And Connie Lear is not his only victim. And they also accept Greg Corner, who fathered Stacey's baby when she was 15 and he was a 23yr old grown man. Greg is also against Rodney. Also Greg's hair was found on Stacey's body but no one mentions that part.

  • @isislaz
    @isislaz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Something no one addresses. You've seen clips of the crime scene video. They show CSI processing the scene and taking vaginal swabs from Stacey's body at the scene. They did tests for semen on the swabs at the scene which would've turned the swabs purple to detect presence of semen. The swabs did not turn colors. It stayed white. No coloring showed up on the swabs. So there is a question of whether or not there was really any semen present inside of Stacey.
Also, please note, Stacey was far from a goodie two shoes like the media wants to make it sound like. She was actually far from it. She was 15yrs old when she had her daughter Demi, by a 23yr old man named Greg Corner. Carol Stites allowed the relationship to continue even though she knew Greg was a grown man abd Stacey was underage. Carol was going to bring charges against Greg when Stacey got pregnant, but she withdrew them. Instead, she had the baby illegally adopted because she didn't tell Greg Stacey was pregnant. Greg didn't know he had a daughter until years after Stacey's murder and by then, Demi was a grown woman.

@@BRATTERSTEIN she wasn't a goodie two shoes is what I am saying. Read her cousin's affidavit, Calvin "Buddy" Horton. Other than him saying he saw Stacey with Rodney at a Dairy Queen, he also tells abt how she and her mother Carol, lived with his parents and he was asked to help them find housing because they had problems with Stacey's behavior that Carol was already having problems with. She wasva wild child. Also she was messing with several men behind Jimmy's back. Not just Rodney. And I believe he knew abt the other men but when he found out abt Rodney, that was the last straw for him. He used to work as a jailor for Bastrop PD before he went into the academy, so he had connects to keep tabs on Stacey whenever she went to Bastrop and they wpuld follow her around. And also the original person they were planning to frame for Stacey's murder was David Lawhon. He is the man serving time for Mary Ann Ardlt's murder. She was the other woman found dead in the same area as Stacey a few weeks after Stacey. He took a plea deal in Ardlt's murder so they had to find another person to frame because they were gonna get Lawhon for both murders. There is also cross contamination btwn Stacey and Mary Ann Ardlt. The investigators put Mary Ann Ardlt's panties on Stacey before Mary was murdered to frame Lawhon because Lawhon did know Stacey but never had sex with her. He was messing around with Mary tho. But supposedly Mary's murder was a hit because she was divorcing her common law husband, who had connections to law enforcement.

@@isislaz that's an issue that can fairly be discussed. Absolutely. But it's NOT okay to suggest that her not being a "goody-two shoes" somehow played ANY role in what happened to her. You can make your point without sounding like you're demonizing the VICTIM of such an awful, brutal crime.
