  • I made this video for a client of mine who had a faulty Electronic Steering Lock in his W204 Mercedes Benz. W204 is the chassis number for any C Class vehicle model year 2008-2014.
    This is a very common failure. I can repair your ESL or program an emulator to replace it.

    Hi. I have a w204 with what it looks like the same issue. Had someone come with a OBD2 reader and it read: C121 No Can message was received from control module engine control system. D10B No can message was received from control module engine control system. C164 Can control communication with control module air conditioning is faulty. C126 Can communication SCM/MRM is faulty. C167 communication with electronic ignition switch EIS/EZS is faulty. Even the technician couldn’t tell me what the culprit was. Paid him $160 just to be just as clueless if not more

      Those generic codes are hinting at CAN BUS communication errors. It could be your EIS, but I can't be sure until I test it on the bench. Get it in touch with me if you would like me to diagnose your EIS.

    I was wondering can you just remove the lock and just leave the little computer that’s in there attached to the wires.

      @mercedesbenzspecialist  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      No. You need to replace it with an electronic ESL emulator.

      You can schedule a consultation phone call on the website for tomorrow morning. It’s best to be at the vehicle with the key at the time of our phone call. The cost is $30. You can put that $30 towards the esl emulator service if you need it.

      These fail for one reason. The little motor inside fails after 8-12 years. If the small motor fails, but the circuit board doesn’t have a locked NEC chip. You can replace the motor, and it will work again.
      If the NEC chip is locked. The ESL will not work again even if you replace the motor.
      In this case, I would program a used ESL with an unlocked NEC chip to your vehicle using vvdi mb tool.
      However, I highly recommend replacing your ESL unit with an electronic emulator instead of another factory ESL that will certainly fail again within 1-3 years this time, because the aftermarket motors available are made in China, they do not last 8-12 years like the OEM motor.

      One move that you can make now is to get the steering lock out of the steering column. You can still get yours to unlock by inserting the key into the ignition switch.
      Zip tie it out of the way of moving parts. This way, when it fails, you won’t have to remove the entire steering column and cut the lock out.
      If you want an emulator programmed to replace the factory steering lock. Checkout our website.

      We need the ignition switch and keys/key to program an electronic ESL emulator.
      The factory ESL must be removed from the steering column. The emulator replaces the factory ESL.

      I don’t recommend using another factory ESL. It will certainly fail again. Especially the rebuilt ones with the Chinese motor in it. It will fail in 18 months.
      Get an esl emulator instead. We have confidence in our emulator, we back it with a lifetime warranty.

    • @mercedesbenzspecialist
      @mercedesbenzspecialist  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is a similar solution for your 2009 E350. First we must determine which module has failed. The Electronic Steering Lock (ESL), the Electronic Ignition Switch (EIS), or maybe just a bad key. We have the tools to test and find out with 100% certainty. Give us a call at 818.510.3375.
