Can I save this IS200 from a major rust problem?

Here's the first of many video's showing all the rust repair work and treatment carried out on James' 1999 Lexus / Altezza IS200
This video focuses on both the Discovery and preparation stages. You'll see me removing as much rust as possible from the affected area and preparing the metal ready to start welding up once I find out how well the Bilt Hamber Deox Gel works overnight.
A previous keeper of the vehicle had some poor repairs carried out where plates have been tacked over rusty holes, filled over and painted, it appears they were more concerned about the vehicles aesthetics than they were it's safety, or their passengers safety. I'll have this repaired this week, it'll look good AND be structurally sound again.
Plans are to give the vehicle a Bilt Hamber Dynax s-50 extreme wax treatment across the underside and through the cavities.

Even if this job isn't "worth it" repairs like this is what's needed as these cars get crashed and rust totalled they're becoming extremely expensive and far between. I appreciate your effort and documentation. You've saved a few of these by this alone

The rain water gets in via the kickplate peg holes in the door sills and pools there in front of the back wheels. Eventually the wheel well wall corrodes through and lets a lot of road crap and salty water in making it much much worse. If these holes arent plugged or sealed in some way the water will pool again and the sill will rot from the inside again. This is why all IS grn 1 rot at this specific point over and over.
Also a lot of mud will get cahght inside the wheel arch, sit and rot the metal. I cleared poinds of it out of my rear wheelarches. The fronts have liners and dont collect the mud or rot nearly as much.
These are brilliant cars but these design flaws kill them. Its great to see one being repaired.

Just had the MOT on my GS300 1999, same problem. The car runs like new so I cannot afford to replace it. I'm having to remove the plastic outer cover to see how far the rust goes. Hopefully it can be saved.😪

What would I need to do my is300 is just as bad but my pinch welds are blown thru in 2 spots on both sides

My neighbour's IS200 is the same underneath. It is fixable, but how Lexus cars get in this state after 15 years is anybody's guess. I have seen far older Renault cars with no rust at all. Yet younger Lexus cars rust all over the bottom.

Japan uses alchohol to de ice roads instead of salt. So even their export cars never left the factory with enough corrosion protection for EU and UK. Same with subaru, mitsubishi, honda and mazda. It is the bane of old japanese cars and part of the maintenance in owning one unfortunately!

I use Bilt Hamber Deox Gel. It's absolutely fantastic stuff. It doesn't convert, it removes rust leaving a nice clean metal behind.
