Peugeot 406 - Welding inner sills.

Here's a video of me welding up the nearside sill on my own vehicle. This is a common problem on the 406.
Three individual peices hand made to fit the cut-outs. Seam welded back together, zinc primed, seams sealed and stone chipped.
Part Two will show rust treatment and waxing with Bilt Hamber products across the underneath of the vehicle.

I've been a 405-406 guy for the last 20years but I've finally walked away to a ranger 😭😭. In the future if I find a clean one I might go back🙄😁. It's good to see someone else love the old girls 👍👍👌

I think its fair to say any car can rust if given the opportunity.

Bit like my Peugeot expert van, you don't see the rust on that at all, until you poke the sill and it falls to bits in your hand. :o)

We never had a problem with rust on out 406. Maybe PSA's build quality went downhill sometime in the late 90's/2000's as many Picasso's/C4's had rusty sills along with the 106 with its bad beams

Nice job i had to do exactly the same on my dads last year. The sunroof drain pipes on his finish half way down the door pillars and fill the sills and door pillars with water. I thought it might be worth extending the pipes you can get down the door pillars then drill a hole in the bottom of the sill and poke the pipe out!

Rust holes are extremely sociable. They're rarely seen without a lot of company.

Wow, I used too sell these, fantastic cars. Never had a rotten one....but not sold one in 7 years. Interesting that the inner and membrane sills are getting rusty....or was that just unlucky?
When customers get quotes for welding they always seem to have a coronary, not understanding the amount of labour involved, and what a bloody horrible it is, reasons so few garages want to do it.

Insired me further to tackle a similiar issue on my Peugeot Camper. I am new to mig welding, but confident enough. Seeing how you do it in stages certainly helps. Just one thing, did you get solar burn on your hands? Thanks for a good video. Toptastic.

Great video, nice welding, puts mine to shame. Doing up an old TalbotExpress just failed the MOT. They didn’t like me using plug welds on the sil lip, insisting on a continuous weld. Wondering how to approach, do I just weld along the lip edges or grind between the plugs and weld up?

Has your car got a sunroof? The sunroof drains drain into the sills so if the inner and outer drains block up they stay full with water? Every other car that I've seen with a sunroof has the drain pipes coming out of the floor!
