I used to be a fan and consume everything that came from her. I think the last Bjork album I liked was Vespertine in 2001.

I love the "nature wrote this psalm" lyric. The feeling of grieve towards the lost of a loved one, like a mother, is almost an instinct, written in our nature, catalyzed by our evolution as humans. Then, she sings, in this really fatal but beatiful tone: "it expands this realm", cause even if it's an instinct feeling, almost out of control to our will, it means we're connected by nature to the lost one, an inextricable bound that even death can't break. That's why the song's name is ancestress: it's all about this primal string that connects us to everyone we love, timeless and unbreakable.

This resonates deep in my heart, i had to say goodbye to my brother and my father recently, as they left this world. There's a place Inhabited by my family, in the Colombian Andes mountains, i would walk with my father throughout the lands where he would taught me about plants like frailejon and how those mountains were a water factory, or more like a sponge absorbing water of the clouds that would came down to the land in their mist form, there were rocks covered with patches of moss, sometimes i would be exploring places with my brother, then some years later, on my own i would run and walk in the herb and the forest, inside the dew that was caressing those giant and thin palm trees, currents of cold wind where i would sing and scream and be loud, i would feel how a tiny part i am in the ecosystem, my soul would elevate and resonate with the surroundings. This piece kind of takes me there. I have yet to return over there, i need to do it.

Bjork keeps true to the concept of this album being a happy and/or celebratory one. She managed to celebrate her mother’s life and not her passing here in this song. It is such a rare occurrence in artist expression to be able to do this through pop culture/music. It’s celebratory and yet allows you to mourn your lost loved one in a healing way. I think a few fans were expecting this to be a sad depressing album, so it is quite refreshing imo.
Unravel has always been the one that gets me most. This is probably in my top 5 faves of hers lyrically and in mood.

What an achingly gorgeous lament and eulogy for a mother. Being a nurse, I’ve held the hands of people who passed, and comforted families who have complicated feelings of grief and relief. Bjork has evoked such a feeling in me…this was so sad yet beautiful. I’m thankful for Bjork, and for these emotions. I always feel that if I were to lose my compassion, I would leave nursing altogether. It’s an integral part of my role to connect with the grief-stricken in a way that allows them to feel seen and held. I still cry in the coat room, and keep it together on the floor, and I’m grateful.

Not too long ago, my Grandma, who practically raised me, passed away. Yes, obviously it was sad to see her go. But... with her heart condition, her blood was so thin and poorly oxygenated. When she was aware and awake, it... wasn't even really the same person. I will never forget the last thing she said, in what became a rare moment of clarity. She looked at me, and as if the fate of the world rested on her words, said "I love you." I will never forget that

one part that makes me sad is how she mentions she does not have her mother's story in her mouth. the reality is that Bjork is such a unique individual because she was raised by her mother - idiosyncratic, freeforming, words, sounds. these are the best parts of you, Bjork. she has lived and lives on in you. she is alive.

I think you're right. She was definitely captived by her mom the same way we are to her. But we do have Hildur to thank for Bjork. Not only because she is her daughter but because of everything Bjork learned from Hildur. Think how different Bjorks music would have been without her. Maybe it would still be environmental because Iceland, but her beats and way of being are definitely given to her by Hildur.

You don't really know when the end will be but you know it's coming, and when it arrives, it's like there's nothing after. No clear cadence, just ever-present absence. Nope! For the music she collabs yeah but prickly picks again in the partner music so listeners may not be blown away by a real partnership collaboration and continue to think she's a genius and maybe she is still but humble and generous in the collab not really. “Ancestress”
    [Lyrics]
    My skull is my cathedral
    Where this matrimort takes place
When I was a girl she sang for me
    In falsetto lullabies with sincerity
I thank her for her integrity
    My ancestress' clock is ticking
Her once vibrant rebellion is fading
    I am her hopekeeper
    I assure hope is there
    At all times
My ancestress has left all manners
    Her pulsating skin rebelling
    The doctors she despised
    Placed a pacemaker inside her
    When you're out of time
    How you look back changes
Did you punish us for leaving?
Are you sure we hurt you?
    Was it just not "living"?
She had idiosyncratic sense of rhythm
    Dyslexia, the ultimate freeform
She invents words and adds syllables
    Hand-writing, language all her own
I don't have that story in my mouth
When you die, you bring with you what you've given
The machine of her breathed all night
    While she rested
    Revealed her resilience
    And then it didn't
You see with your own eyes
    But hear with your mother's
    There's fear of being absorbed
    By the other
By now, we share the same flesh
As much as I tried to escape it
    This is no mediocre debris
    My ancestress this is
The odour of our final parting
    Those have been
The perfume of separation for centuries
The perfume of separation for centuries
    Ancestress
    Nature wrote this psalm
    It expands this realm
    Translucent skin let go of

Same beautiful Artist as when I saw her live 25+ years ago front stage and she sang to me as I didn't even notice, as i danced to the spirit. She is a Goddess

My Nannans funeral was the other day so this video is stirring alot of emotion within me. Such a beautiful tribute to her mum. I will show this to my mum. I especially like that Bjork has her own son singing on this one so it feels like that is me. "When you die you bring with you what you've given" ❤️

Björk's beautiful, angelic, distinctly unique voice, along with her avant garde eccentricity, has not changed since I discovered her in High School close to 3O yrs ago, which is why so many of us are still tuning in. I still listen to Post, Homogenic, & Vespertine, my 3 favs, quite often, & absolutely loving Fossora. Björk is a RARE gem & I get not for everyone, but when it comes to authenticity in music & art, there's no one who can compare. I find it interesting how you hardly ever hear artists referencing her as an inspiration, when she very obviously is & often(tries to be) imitated. Yup... I'm talking to you Gaga. Björk was making electronic, funky music BEFORE techno/house & now EDM EVER became mainstream, & her ballads are beautiful in a way that cannot be described in words. In a nutshell I am & will always be a huge fan, plus loud & proud to absolutely adore this woman & so grateful she is still creating art decades later. I hope more & more of the Millennials & Z's tune in because her music/art is truly a gift

The depth in these words is moving me beyond words. You really gave your mother the most beautiful farewell. She is with you. I can feel her spirit through your words and that is a beautiful thing. Thank you for doing the things that you do Björk, it’s beyond inspiring.
