They can bite chunks off your swimming fins. Like someone has said, they're generally okay, but if they tilt to one side, give them a wide berth, they're 2 to 2 1/2 feet long and could easily remove a finger !
Just watched your video after having had similar experience here in Maldives on vacation 😅 Had to figure out how harmful their bite could be, but I was only rammed by one on my elbow, no bite. They are just so aggressive.
😄 welcome to the club ! I was so confused about what happened that I had to google it too and indeed, their bites can be nasty. But no bite for me either, only got laughed at by friends when I told them that I was attacked by a fish haha
Lol, I’m in the Maledives right now and I knew about triggerfish’s aggression before so I warned my dad about them. He just laughed it off and told me I’m paranoid. Today he told me one of these exact fishes chased him. Should’ve listened 😂😂
I've seen them take bites out of hard coral, including the rock, not just the polyps. They have big solid teeth -- like a dog's teeth, although not quite as sharp. If one actually bit someone, I think it would cause a serious injury. But in my experience they usually do what this one did, and just charge without biting.
"Take your mask and your bubbles and GTF outta here!" 5 seconds later. "Hey, human. I ain't playin'! Don't make me call the piranhas!!" [Yeah yeah. I know they are freshwater fish.]
Male trigger fish are hyper territorial, as a global diver, I have had similar experiences in Maui with Huma-huma's. They were about 15 inches long and I'll tell ya what, if triggers got as big as some larger sharks, 5ft+, man would have a hard time reef diving.
Good for you for never turning your back. I’ve been diving for none and a none half years, and I can tell you it takes every ounce of will not to turn around and just run.

I used to have an aquarium once, and bought a similar fish like that one. It was straight up gangsta, killed everything in sight. I had to put it in a different small little aquarium just for him. But I think he got depressed, cause he used to bury himself in the stones at the bottom and just lie there. It was more blueish and reddish colour.(of African descent I believe..)In the big tank I had goldfish and suckers. The suckers were the coolest ones….😊
