Two things. If you use a '56 column in a 1953-1955, it's about 1-1/2 inches shorter. Look at the steering wheel on a '56, then on the '53-'55's and you'll know why that is. If you were to use the type of power steering that I did on my '56, I wouldn't be concerned at all, but as hard as these steer without it, I wouldn't do it. Just mt 2 cents. Be around them and been restoring them for about 44 years.
