HUGE fines and NINE points please. These dangerous distracted idiots need to be taken off the roads.
I very nearly had a head-on collision on a narrow road with a woman who was "playing" on her phone. I used my horn and braked simultaneously, she came out of her "phone stupor" and we stopped just inches apart. I didn't have a dashcam, if I had the footage would have gone to Roads Policing.
My flat looks over a busy T-junction and EVERY day I see people using their phones whilst turning, coming up to the give way markings etc.
Drivers just don't care - increase the fines and points for this offence - too many innocent people are killed by these selfish idiots.

@Rich Lee Yes I know....I should have said... the restrictor fitment is law, what it is set at is down to the operator. 56 is universally adopted as manufacturers recommend that for best mpg & depending on the diff fitted to the unit. Maritime restricting to 52 (or lower, I've driven for them) in a futile gesture to save diesel, is just killing the truck slowly. Or quickly, if, like myself, drove a DAF fitted with a high speed coach diff... result is being dragged off the Woodhead pass near Tintwhistle after the diff blew itself up.

It's about time the law is changed if you use your phone while driving you loose your license

You generally will if you are caught while driving an HGV or a bus / coach. It's usually a 3 month ban for a first offence in the UK.

£2.000 fine and 6 month ban would be more of a deterrent

I live in Copenhagen denmark and see this all the time it pisses me off when us other drivers obey the law and haft to put up with them and the cyclists are no better with headphones on and no lights and its the poor car and truck drivers fault if you touch them the cyclists is like a god here in Copenhagen denmark i call them the untouchables it's very rare you see the police stopping them.

Top job people, please do more to get these morons fined or banned in fact it should be an instant 3 month ban for using a phone or device while driving.... Well done.
