    Lol 😂😂😂 it always brings tears to my eyes with laughter every time I see a Dep's 250 hit the water on a cast. It's like somebody threw a Buick into the lake. The best is the reaction on the faces of other anglers around you. Excellent demonstration and run down to cover types of motions on glide Baits. To maintain your fishing budget you definitely need demonstrations like this to pinpoint what you're looking for. Absolutely another great video for the novice and extreme angler in all of us. 👍👍👍👍.

      Thanks AJ. The differences aren't huge, but they are there. Just hoping that seeing them in the water might help some people when choosing. And your right....the video didn't capture it fully, but a 250 hitting the water IS quite the spectacle.

      InformativeFisherman glad to see you came over to enjoy the comments. This is an excellent channel for a wide range depth in types of Lures and how to use them. I enjoy your channel as well. Recently I have invented a fishing knot intended for snaps and split rings. It will work with all types of fishing line for fresh and saltwater. Please check out the video under The "AJ OVERKILL" knot. It has become a success for guys saltwater fishing and bass anglers. Thanks again for having a informative channel. -Aaron Perelli.

    That 3d shine glide by savage gear was really impressive... especially for the price. not sure if anyone else noticed but saw it had a couple followers during the demo. ill have to pick one of those up.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I agree Brian. The more I have fished it the more I have come away with the same opinion. The Savage 3D Shine Glide is really the best combo of action, price, and components.

    • @brianschaper9234
      @brianschaper9234 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I since have picked a couple of these up. Stand by my original statement, the action is awesome. Not to mention, the finish and quality is impressive for $25. However, have you noticed any casting issues with these? I am getting some serious helicoptering. WAYYY more than normal (i understand this is fairly common with glide baits). Also, is there anything technique wise to minimize this? Thanks in advance.

      Don't hook anything over ten pounds or you'll be sorry, you'll have two smaller lures. First fish a 3 pounder, second fish a 13... now it's a Salvage Gear.

      Hey brother, as far as retrieving are you just straight slow reeling back in or are you twitching the rod any or what?

      Ha ha....it was an awesome surprise for me too. I cast along that bank so many damn times I think it drew the attention of a number of fish and eventually they just had ENOUGH! If didn't show, but one clip I had 3 followers on a cast.....the bite you saw happened shortly after.

    Excellent and so helpful! That Gan Craft sums up my fishing: excitement of a new lure, hook a big fish, lose same big fish, lure stops working as it was when big fish ate it. Seeing all of these in action was very helpful. I have more respect for Savage Gear now.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ha ha....so sorry John.....it happens to us all. Those Savag Gears are nice right? They undercut the accepted market price point for large glide baits, but there is no performance loss. They are just as good if not better than the competition.....and by far the best value.

  • @TimKollat
    @TimKollat 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Ive been using the Savage glide swimmer and I've noticed that the bigger 8" one seems to swim better than the smaller one, it has a much wider glide. They both work good though and for only $15-$20 you can't go wrong. The only thing thats bad about them is sometimes you'll get one that sinks too fast. Ive had the best luck catching big bass on the 8" baby bass color.
    Anyone who is still spending $175 on the Deps are just throwing their money away

    Great video as usual. I would say Savage Gear is the best amongst the bunch. Is really value for money and it doesn't swim any worse than any other lures. Even the largest Savage Gear Glide Swimmer at 8" and 3oz only goes for $24.99. Now, that's the true King of Value. The River2Sea S-Waver is only value for money up to the 168 size, if you want the 200, the price all of a sudden jumps from a very reasonable $18.99 all the way to $45.99. Of course, some folks may think $45.99 is nothing when compared to a Roman for example, I just have a personal psychological barrier, I would rather add a bit more and get a decent rod or reel, but that's just me. LOL. There are some new reasonably priced choices such as the Castaic Boyd Duckett BD Glide, Team Leader Baits Bad Boy Glide, Lucky Craft Real Ayu 178, Livingston Lures B Venom and Livingston Lures B Viper amongst others.

    I'm a trophy Striper hunter and I love these new swim/glide baits. I already caught a few monsters on them. I like the 12 inch. They can't make them too big for a 50 lb striper. Yes the JDM s are pretty good too. You don't have to spend $250 to get a good one .plenty of awesome gliders for under $75, sixth sense, storm, savage gear, Jackall. And plenty of garage made ones too. Just gotta ask questions about quality. Wire thru are the best ones and free floating trebbles on swivels. Gotta shop around. I live near a great tackle store here in E. Tennessee, and the owner stocks all kinds of fantastic giant baits. My spinning outfit is a 7'2" St. Croix Legend glass heavy action on a Daiwa Saltiga dogfight 5500 with 66 lbs of drag. (Will pull a Hyundai off the lake bottom) 50 lb power pro slick, 300lb barrel swivel and 80 lb flouro leader. It will handle a 100lb fish. My bait cast set up is a Skeet Reese 10'2" heavy action retractable swimbait micro guide rod with dual fingerguards, a Daiwa prorex 400 (awesome reel 30 lbs drag) 50 lb power Pro slick. It casts these huge 6 Oz monstrosity baits quite a great distance.. my ultimate goal it to land and photograph a 60 lbs striped bass, from shore, no boat no live bait within the next 3 years. I'm already a 5X member of the 50 lb club. Obsessed, I'm out at the rivers and lakes of Tennessee at 3-4am almost every night...if there is anyplace that a monster 60 will come from its here. I'm up for the challenge. Tight lines boys

    The hinkle! But in all honesty its situational. The S-waver 200 makes a clacking sound that can sometimes drive fish through the roof. Early in the year Fluid glide baits like the deps 250, and gan craft, those are my favorite early season for slow glides.

    This was great to see all the different brands of the same "style" bait. Would love to see more videos like this one. Frogs, wake baits, 1-3 ft crank baits, etc. and maybe some of the more affordable ones too. Not many people I know of are buying $180 lures. Great job though and thank you!!

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Dave - thanks a lot man. I focused on this style of lure because it is one of the newest categories and I thought that more so than other 'regular' lures people might benefit from seeing how they move. Someone else mentioned to do something similar with large multi joint lures....and that I may do this coming season. Just an FYI....I'm sure your referring to the Deps 250 when you mention $180. If you search around on Ebay and/or Japanese sites you can find the 250 in the $80-$90 range. Still A LOT....I know, but much less than the US retail price. But, also....that Savage 3D Shine Glide and Glide Swimmer were $25 and $17 respectively. No need to spend a lot to get a semi large glide with great action.

      KeepinItReelFishing - I like the fact that the review was so specific in the type of lure tested. Not many guys putting out these informative videos (thank you all by the way) on fishing actually are comparing apples to apples. Kudos to you. I was just thinking that if/when you compare lures (whatever you choose to compare) that those lures will be in the more affordable range. That's all. Keep up the informative videos! I really appreciate your efforts. BTW... I have the Savage Gear Glide bait. Just haven't used it yet as I fish mostly for Northern Snakeheads.

    why don't you list (in the notes to your videos) the brand, name, etc. of each lure you're reviewing? for us newbies, it's tough to hear the details of what you're describing enough to find the lure online. Maybe even give us a link to the lure at reasonably priced seller? just a suggestion...

      This is going back, but I'm pretty sure that was Berkley Big Game in either 20lb or 25lb. I used that rod/reel set up primarily for the big Deps 250, so I went heavy duty on the line in hopes of not breaking off. Side note - all of these lures, especially the small to medium size ones, would have had noticeably more action had I been using a smaller line. I know Butch Brown has stated he goes to 12lb Seaguar AbrazX on the Deps 175 because it improves the action so much.

    Very nicely done! Keep up the good work, I'm partial to the savage gear s-waver but you have opened up my eyes to the 3-d glide and depps 250 price discussing is a huge point I buy a lot of used lures on ebay fisherman spend lots of money on lures but don't understand the fish catching ratios for example the smaller savage gear will catch lots of small medium and big bass. The bigger swimbait will catch a couple of fish per day some small some medium and huge bass! So fisherman get frustrated and sell expensive baits on ebay cheap.

    Funny how folks think these are ONLY big fish baits. Big glide baits, and swimbaits have a ton of draw power! They will show you fish in the area you're fishing that you may not think are there. If you watch at 3:25 the bait draws in about a 12" bass. Had he been given the chance, he would have probably eaten that bait.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah....that was awesome getting the bite while having a camera person on it! Too bad it got off. Your right man, and in future table top reviews I will expand on that. But, the quiet nature of the Deps really seperates it from everything else. The Savage 3D shine had the foam dampers, but I notice the hook hardware still clicks and clacks against the lure whereas we know that the soft skin of the Deps presents that.

    • @toadslayer72
      @toadslayer72 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's hard to get a completely silent glide bait because of not only the joint but the hooks and split rings. The joint is definitely the biggest culprit for noise though. I imagine the Roman Made hook baits are pretty silent.. A Deps/Roman Made hybrid system would be dope.
      I remember a few years back when the glide bait craze was starting to surface amongst the big bait community, there was at least one guy trying to come with a soft version. I can't think of his name right now but he was somewhat known. That proved too good to be true I guess. It must be too hard design wise to achieve the proper buoyancy and still get it to glide right with a soft bait.

    Very good video! Really good. My two favorite youtube channels are Tactical Bassin and your channel! It's great to see you getting better and better with trophy bass fishing and swimbaits in particular. Last time I watched you talking about glide baits you weren't getting the hang of it. Now you're doing a lot better! :) And I loved to watch that fish hit the Gan Craft. Too bad it got away. I see why the Slide Swimmer is the king of the glidebaits: it's like you say, it has a more fluid and natural motion. Do you work your glidebaits just with the reel? I do! I gave up on working them with the rod, first because when using the reel you can have your rod always pointed at the bait, parallel to the water, and that way you're always in the best position to do a sweep hookset to the side, and second, when using the rod tip it's easy to do a stronger twitch than needed and the bait may spin unnaturally and the hooks also may catch the line. With the reel I may reel steadily for some time, then make some quick 1/4 or 1/2 reel turns to make it glide to the side. If I want it to glide more I just move the rod/reel forward to give some slack. It works great!
    The glidebait I use is the S-Waver 168 since I don't have huge bass here and most of the prey of big bass in these lakes is 4 to 6" baitfish. I almost broke my PB last summer on the 168 with a bass almost 5lbs. Not a huge bass, but here it's a trophy. :) I do the famous S-Waver mod on all my S-Wavers so they glide more. Can you try it and show the difference in the glide of the bait before and after the mod? Here's how to mod it: th-cam.com/video/xVTIjHIecAQ/w-d-xo.html . It's really simple and it works!

    Each bait is different and all have their place. One is not necessarily better than another. There is also lots of little mods you can do with glides to change how they fish. As for everyone saying the 250 is the best and has the best action that not really true. I believe he as throwing a new injected model and those are not like a OG. I never fish the 2 new ones I have but all the OG 250's are slightly different. I have 8 of them and none of them are exactly the same.

    You gotta get a savagegear 4' bluegill. It was only 10 bucks. Granted, it is small but the action and paint job are absolutely incredible for a 10 dollar bait. Would love to see you do a review.

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Isaac - I got the small and larger version as soon as they came out. I like them....but am not in love. I found my slow sinks BARELY sank and would stay on top unless I reeled crazy slow, but reeling slow enough to keep them subsurface would be too slow to continue their swimming action. The larger version 6" was better, but its just a large lure as bluegills go. Perhaps Savage has revised them as bit as mine were the first very first batch that was released.

    • @drumandball
      @drumandball 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Perhaps! I am new to swimbait fishing...so it could very well be that I am too easily impressed. Mine seems to work pretty well when I reel it at a moderate speed with my 6.4:1 and give it some twitches. Perhaps they tweaked the model, or perhaps I'm too easily impressed. I'm a poor college student, so I will be fishing the savage gear when I'm not at a good enough lake to risk getting my mattlures ultimate blugeill snagged. Love your videos. Keep em coming.

    On the subject of glide baits...I recently purchased a Imakatsu Bassroid and for the life of me cannot get a glide out of it at all. Don't think it's the rod I am using or the reel for that matter. All the bait seems to want to do is straight through the water with no action. Even twitching the rod does nothing but bring it forward. Very frustrating as this lure wasn't all that cheap.

    Every time I watch the Lure video's all I can think of is "Glad you aren't paying for and maintaining a $80K Bass boat". Because if so, a 2" Mr. Twister in a 25 pak, maybe all you could afford afterwards. In the last month I've spent a $1000 in just boat and Outboard maitenance, and I still have Upholstery to get re-done. All these are bordering on those Musky fishing lures! IS THIS REALLY JANUARY IN JERSEY? (or some other time) if so, YES it's been way, way too hot here in Jax Fla. for the word "winter" which has had a VERY negative effect on fishing!
    I'd give a hard look at the River2Sea Larry Dahlberg "Wide-Glide" and his Mr. Whiggley. They both KILL in saltwater! And No Bass has ever seen the likes of them.

    Hi Carl I’m really enjoying the canoe it’s stable and light enough that if I have to carry it I can and in most cases ; I use a little dolly as you to put it in and out of my pick up bed and I’m using a 32 lb. thrust now but it isn’t quite strong enough so I’ll be going to the 45 lb. to cut through the weeds. Just curious do you use the blood knot to tie line to leader it seems the easiest to tie and smallest other than the FG knot that’s more difficult and what knot to use to tie to your swim baits with braids or leader thanks again John

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad to hear that its working out for you. I love mine, the whole set up so much. I actually have their larger model in the square back stern as well...got it last year. I'm going to have some fun with that one this year and put on a 24V, 80lb motor on it. But yeah, the 45lb model is what I've been using for a couple years now and feels "right" for the craft. In terms of leader to main line/braid I use the Alberto knot exclusively. My reason for using was simplicity. I looked into the various popular joining knots and the Alberto was easy as heck and I could remember it. Of course, we can all just look it up on our phones here on TH-cam, even on the water. But, apart from being simple it was quick. Of course neither being easy to remember or quick matters if the knot isn't dependable and as you might imagine I only stuck with it because I have had almost zero failures. Literally, having tied it a few hundred times I can only remember a single instance where I had it come apart/fail....and, it was an instance where I was being incredibly stupid and saw that the knot wasn't as tight and clean as I usually tie it....a few loops that didn't cinch. Instead of retying I so lazily used it and it probably would have held had I not had a backlash/spool lock up mid-cast and that amount of force caused it to snap apart. That was the one and only instance of a failure. Never on a hook set or any other mid-cast backlash. Never on a fish. There have even been instances where I was snagged deep and got to the point where I realized I couldn't free the lure so I put on gloves, wrapped the line around my hand, and pulled straight against it. You guessed it.....line always broke at the line tie and never at the joining knot. I'm just seeing how much I wrote on this damn knot....haha. Yeah.....its a damn good knot and I trust it with my next PB or state record. Here is the man himself showing how its done....so easy, so effective. th-cam.com/video/J56O3CZVu7M/w-d-xo.html

    Hey Carl great video just wondering if you use a braided line with a leader and what weight and type a leader and also do you direct tied to baits or just use snap on

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey John - over the years I have tried numerous line configurations....straight braid, mono, copoly and fluorocarbon. After much trial and error about three years ago I found that braid, to some kind of leader is my go to in almost all situations. In the case of this video all fish were caught on a either a 65 or 50lb braid with the leaders being 17lb copoly and , I believe 20lb mono (in the case of the Huddgill smallie). I still bounce back and forth between mono and copoly as my leader. In situations where I am using a very heavy, treble hook lure I will use a mono leader, and make it long....at least 10ft. The goal is to create some stretch/flex in the system, particularly when landing the fish and the only remaining line out is about 10ft or less. Otherwise, I usually tie them a bit shorter at around 4-6ft. I rarely use fluro now due to the fact that over the years I have consistently had more break offs on it than my mono and copoly by far. The only instance where I use it now as a leader is when I'm fishing particularly clear water and I'm using a slow or finesse technique in which the fish have ample time to stare at the lure, like a drop shot or shakey head.

    hey I've looked everywhere for your okuma Citrix Travel rod in H. they discontinued it and I'm only able to find the Medium or extra heavy, on line. Would the extra heavy be overkill for 6-8" huddleston, ganteral jr, and S-waver? I'm looking for a travel rod to throw these baita in the video mostly 1-3 Oz. If you know of a different travel rod that is availible I'd really appreciate it. your videos are filmed amazing and have great visuals and are very informative. thanks

    Good stuff man.!! Just getting into glide baits myself and am using the original savage gear. I see you have an LDC XH rod. How are you liking it? How does it throw those lighter 1.5-2oz baits? I know it rated for 3- 8oz. I've been going back n forth between the LDC XH OR THE MEGABASS orochi leviathan rated from 1/2-8oz. Been wanting a new rod for my Calcutta d300. Decisions decisions.... keep up the good videos

    • @KeepinItReelFishing
      @KeepinItReelFishing  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      LOVE the LDC XH. As you saw it can cast even the little 6.5" 1-3/4oz Savage Gear just fine (and obviously I wasn't trying to cast far). The thing that is so rare about that rod is that it is a slow action. You NEVER see slow action rods anymore (think fiberglass rods of old). As a single, do everything rod for various size/weight glide baits I think the XH would totally work. Of course it loads up best and performs better when in its weight range. The S-Waver 200 is the "just right" weight and it can straight up BOMB that lure for distance. That slow action gives maximum cushion and flex for these style of baits that use treble hooks.
