Gary, That is the best explanation of anything to do with a computer that I have ever seen ever. I felt like crying with relief. Thank so much. I appreciate your generosity and clarity.
Can’t thank you enough for this video! I watched this video about a week ago and today I created a 35 page PDF using this method. I had so many different scans and I was able to simply drag and drop into Preview! Made my life so much easier...Thank you, Gary!!! 👍🏽👍🏽
you prolly dont give a damn but does someone know of a way to get back into an Instagram account?? I stupidly forgot the account password. I appreciate any assistance you can give me!
This is an excellent tutorial. You answered all the questions I had and more! (I never knew about the crop selection add facility). Clear and consise; this is what all tutorials should be like. Thank you!
All of us NON-techies very much appreciate what a great teacher you are! I refer to your stuff often (I usually need refresher courses - lol) Thank you!
Hi Gary, your tutorials are great. I learn so much from you. Short and clean with an excellent presentation. The PDF-functions were completely new for me. Greetings from Germany Ciao Jack
That is so, so nice to know. Haven't had to do this for a while, but when you need to combine PDFs a simple solution like this is a golden. Thank you, Gary.
I've had Mac for years and I love its basic apps, but I didn't know about this coolest feature! I'm so happy to know it's possible to do this with just Preview but I little sad that I didn't have this information earlier. Thank you so much!
Thanks Gary for explaining such a useful and necessary task we all need, but usually forget how to do! Especially great was your clear explanation of the complete process.
Thank you again for another amazing tutorial. I had a problem in the past with dragging and dropping files and pdf's into the sidebar and saving the document afterward. Even if I saved the new pdf. document, the sidebar files wouldn't be included. To resolve this, I would print that pdf. as a pdf from the print menu. This was my workaround. I am sure it was operator error. I am doing it your way now, and it seems to work perfectly. I can't tell you how many hours I have invested in this program, using my workaround. This is much better.
For some reason insert page opens the documents in a new preview window, any thoughts as to why? I used to be able to select multiple documents and open them all in one preview window but now this doesn't happen. Always appreciate how easy to understand your tutorials are, thank you!
Thank you!! I've been using an online tool, and then I was like maybe my mac already has a method for this, and here it is. You saved me from headaches and potential viruses
Thank you for the helpful steps. I am working on my employer's ten-year-old MAC. We are able to add the thumbnails, but whether I use keystrokes to save or FILE-SAVE, the altered PDF always reverts to a single page and shows no sign of the combining steps. Do some MACs have restrictions; are there restrictions I would be able to bypass?
Another excellent video which I seem to have missed from almost 2 years ago! - perhaps you can create a video explaining how to "save" or export, each page in a PDF file to a stand alone PNG. Exporting from preview into PNG seems to create a multi page PDF document ? Seems that exporting to jpg on an individual basis works, but not png. So the question is, how can a pdf document be exported such that each page is either a standalone png or a standalone jpg? Affinity photo can read a pdf file and with some trickery, on a page by page basis it seems, can export a page to pdf or jpg? I will investigate if it is possible using that tool to export each page.
You’re out here doing the Lord’s work 😂 - thank you! It has been so long since I did this and I couldn’t remember. You taught me new things and reminded me of what I used to know. Appreciate it!
Sorry, I'm a little slow... If one of those documents has page numbering ON it does that change? (I'd like to keep it, it's the main part of the document). Much thanks, so good!
Do you mean page numbers from an app like Pages or Word? As a PDF, those are just more elements on the pages. Merging doesn't alter the contents of the pages so it wouldn't change. Try it and see.
Hey Gary, I love your stuff, and I'm a Mac user since OS8 and an iPhone user since 2009. I'd love to support your channel, but no way will I give a cent to Patreon. Can't you give us another option?
I'm pretty stuck at the moment, I have over 200 .txt files to combine into 1 single pdf file, but every program I download either has a limit on the number of files you can convert into a pdf, or doesnt have an option to create a pdf from multiple files. why is creating a pdf so hard to do? why do applications ALWAYS have to make pdf creation a "Premium" feature or "pro version / pro feature"? someone please explain... so my question is: is there a PDF Creator that is free, doesn't require a paid subscription or paid "license" to use, and has NO LIMIT on file number / file size? if so please reply and let me know.. thanks in advance.
Great?.... but how do I EXTRACT say, one page from a multipage pdf document in Preview. (I've tried this on a bank statement without success in Preview and instead had to resort to a 3rd party app to accomplish this).
“Any technology sufficiently advanced is indistinguishable from magic.” (Asimov, I think. I’m too excited to fact check lol) This, to my research/writing life, is magic 👍😁
macmostvideo Great video... I have 76 Word documents in a folder on my mac, how do I find out how many pages there are without opening each one up!!.. I can find out how to do it on a PC but not on MAC
If you are building a PDF from multiple PDFs this way, there's no way to create a TOC or anything like that. You'd have to have build the document in something like Pages. Word, Indesign, etc. You may be able to do it with pro PDF software, like Adobe Acrobat, but I'm not sure.
macmostvideo Thank you for your response. I have no issues with regular numbering and bulleting. But when it comes to headings, it’s a whole different beast in Pages.
@@SmokedChips I you want to do an outline, use numbered bullets. Heading styles would be more for regular documents with lots of body text, and those would be used as the headings for parts of that. Have you tried the Note Taking template?
macmostvideo I haven’t tried the notetaking template. In a business environment, it is often required that you need documents with headings having an outline numbering. It is a must for any technical documentation. For example: A second heading-4 titled “Design characteristics”, under a third heading-3, under a fifth heading-2, under a second heading-1 should be automatically numbered as ... 2.5.3.2 Design Characteristics. I couldn’t figure out a way to make it work properly. Thanks again for your reply
@@JULIOAIS Not sure what you are asking here. Is it like two 100-page PDFs now? Or 200 1-page PDFs? What sort of situation is it and what is the source material? Hard for me to help without knowing more details.
@@macmost Is a book with 200 pages. I want to put it together in a folder containing the complete book: cover, pages, everything PDF, so I can e-mail it
It's strange what the macOS will allow to get added to a PDF. Other PDFs, sure. Some old .AI file - why not? Ancient .EPS, uhm alright. An all vector SVG? No.. absolutely not. :)

Why can't I drag one file from one finder window to the other? Please help!
