  • Success leaves clues! ⭐️ I’m thrilled to spotlight passionate people who infuse positivity and heart into local radio. AND no one’s pumping more passion into their community than Rachel & Tim from Tring Radio.
Break out your passport! ✈️ We’re heading to the United Kingdom for this RadioDJ Dude Station Profile. Tring is about 30 miles north of London.
While the UK does a bang-up job with major market broadcasting (BBC Radio 1 puts Los Angeles radio to SHAME), it’s impossible to deliver a personal touch to the small surrounding communities.
🎤 Local voices are top of the charts! Rachel & Tim’s journey to launch their community internet station is packed with valuable insight and infectious charm. Tring Radio is a wonderful model of community radio done right. Have a cup o’ tea (or warm beer) and enjoy the Tring joyride!
Tring Radio is rebranding to Trend Radio to better serve the local communities. Check ‘em out: TringRadio.co.uk

We usually think of online radio as serving the globe but to do it as a local community service in spite of having no transmitter is different and these folks are so inspirational. We need more of that, covering local events, local schools, churches, live remotes at little league games, varsity football. It just looks like so much fun albeit hard work as she pointed out but so worrh it. Thank you for bringing this to us

Apparently, my regional scone knowledge is lacking. So much for my new channel: Radio Scone Dude.

Lot of Local Internet Radio Stations don't support local area's in the USA for the sole reason they have to compete with Terrestrial stations. Until Vehicles can connect to Internet radio as simple as listening to terrestrial stations... It can be done. Cause I do it all the time with my Cellphone.. and I have like 4 Radio Apps to do so. But Local Businesses and Community could and can tune in via their Home PC's... We have a Terrestrial School run station here in Mesquite Tx KEOM 88.5 that does local news and community announcements and they are online as well.

If I were to invest that much time, money and effort into a local community radio station, I'd take it to the next level and actually apply for a low power FM licence. (LPFM) Well, that's how I'd do it here in the U.S. I don't know how things work across the pond. The streaming would then become a secondary option to listen. I'll never understand why "streaming only" stations use the phrase "on air". Clearly, they are NOT "on air". They are merely "streaming" audio over the internet.
Here in the U.S., auto manufacturers are not even putting AM radios in the new EV's anymore. I think radio is going the way of the dinosaurs. When the boomer generation dies off, which won't be that much longer by the way, radio, be it streaming or terrestrial, will pretty much die off with them. Radio is quickly becoming a relic of the past. People today, have a gazillion choices for streaming only the music that they want, on demand, and listening to innumerable podcasts at their leisure! Ask a young person which radio station they listen to and observe the blank stare on their face.

It's expensive and very difficult to pull that off in the UK. They even have to pay a licensing fee to run an internet station. BUT, you need to know, radio is more robust and relevant in the UK vs the US. People of all ages still tune in. For one, they do a bang up job. The DJs are top notch and no one "phones it in". There's a real commitment to delivering entertaining content & high production value. I'm in Los Angeles (market #2) and it's a wasteland of mediocrity.
As for LPFM licenses, in a fair system, definitely! Keyword: fair. A word the FCC's unfamiliar with. Great article about the current state of LPFM stations: www.radioworld.com/news-and-business/an-lpfm-window-this-fall-presents-opportunities
I'm SO impressed by what Tring Radio has been able to accomplish as an internet community station. In the UK, the majority of radio is consuming on smart speakers. Boom! That's all they need. AND, that's how a lot of the local shops tune in.
BUT, I'm not disagreeing with your overall take on the sad state of radio. The difference lies in not letting it discourage folks like Rachel and Tim to provide a great service with a wonderful medium.

@@RadioDJDude Please don't get me wrong. I personally LOVE radio, be it terrestrial or streaming. I love the dynamics of it! It's a FUN hobby! Like you, I was on the air in commercial radio back in the 80's and once radio gets in your blood, it's there to stay! Radio was what really made me understand the phrase "Get a job doing something you really love and you'll never work a day in your life". I really loved commercial radio and now, streaming radio is a fun hobby that occupies my time.

Hey, once you get bit by radio, it's hard to shake. (Unfortunately, shock therapy doesn't even work.) Plus, nothing matches the electricity/excitement of live FM radio. While my lil' 80s internet station, XXX80s.com, is fun, it can't hold a vegan, free range candle to the "real thing". BUT, few opportunities exist on FM. SO, it'll do!@@grampsradio

I am having a problem with radio dj software. I have created a track rotation and I have put the radio dj in Auto DJ mode. Sometimes it stops playing songs after one day or two day and suddenly it’s dead air. I have to press the play button again to start playing songs. And same issue continues it might be one day or the same day.

Hi Somnath. Sorry you're having troubles. While it's hard to diagnose remotely, here are a couple ideas...1) How many songs do you have in your library and subcategories? If not enough, that could be an issue. 2) In AutoDJ settings, make sure to check "Reset Subcategories". Good luck!
