Yeah, that will happen when testing it in the first couple positions of a rotation. Reduce your playlist to 5 slots and test the code in a position in the rotation more than 5 down. You won't have this problem in a real world scenario. Also, I assume you're using the updated code?

Thanks, David! Since I'm all 80s, that's my main genre. As for cats, I have four (not counting Xmas or Halloween). I have too many different daily rotations and need to fire up the weed wacker...5-6. As for songs, about 1300. I only play recognizable 80s songs, no deep cuts or B-side filler.

Probably not. I tested the idea and the AI bots weren't able to consistently deliver reliable "this day in history" facts. Over time this will improve. When it does, I'll definitely revisit the idea. HOWEVER, I have shared enough ideas in my past videos for you to try it out. Let me know how you do!

Like everything else, it's all about relationships. Don't expect to cold call a DJ and ask them to play your song. Meet them at a remote or start interacting with them on their socials and start a conversation. Plus, if it's a corporate radio station, good luck! Unless they have a speciality show that breaks new/local talent, they don't except outside submissions. Be proactive...but don't spend a ton o' time. In return, they music give you a verbal credit every show and link to your site on their's. Back in the day, musicians would send parody songs to morning shows. If they were funny, they'd air them. BUT, it's all about being proactive. Listen to stations in your area (commercial, community and public), determine the best fit for your tunes and create something unique. Very few musicians are doing that. Best of luck!

Yes, getting the request plug-in to work is a pain. It required lots o' hoop jumping the first attempt. Plus, it's old code. My problem was trying to connect to my database on my home network...no static IP address. If your IP address keeps changing, your settings won't match in the plugin. BUT, unfortunately, I don't remember how I got it to work. I know I used this service: noip.com Also, I think I had to tweak settings on my home router. BUT, things got much easier when I moved my station to a virtual server. I use the IP address from that server and it works. I just did some testing and got it to connect to my home network using noip.com. I think that service tracks your IP address and when it changes, it updates your info. Do you use Maria DB/Heidi SQL? I'm sure you created a new user, too. I logged into my router and the IP address that seems to work is the one listed under "internet port" and not "router info". You probably have a different setup. YES! Thank you. I didn't zoom out enough to see this application, which is better, in my opinion. In less than 3 min, ChatGPT re-coded it to pull this off. It first selects a song, looks at its intro time and then chooses a sweeper (if suitable intro time) or jingle (if not). I'll try to do an update soon. Until then, paste my code into ChatGPT and tell it what you'd prefer it to do. 🪄 Magic!

I live in Los Angeles (Market #2) and 80% of music stations run imaging over song intros. Plus, it's the way I've done it since 1985. It's a great way to keep up the momentum. With attention spans of 3 seconds today, you don't want to risk tune outs due to 12 second jingles. Just because you're not hearing doesn't mean it's not a good idea. Major market mediocrity has never been higher...even here in LA.

I'm using 2.0.4.3. Unfortunately, SQL with the SET @ parameter doesn't work with RDJ versions below 2.0.4.2. I've been rocking 4.3 for over a year and it's rock solid. I recommend upgrading. BUT, I know it's a pain. OR, you can ask for help in the RDJ forum. As mentioned, I'm far from a coding expert.

It will rewrite the code to work with older versions. I tested on RDJ 2.0.3.6 and it worked! I have an SQL query that uses modern features like SET, session variables (e.g., @variable), or other constructs that may not work with older software versions. Please convert the query into a version compatible with older environments. The converted query should: Avoid using SET or session variables. Instead, embed the logic directly into the query. Ensure subqueries or calculations used for variables are dynamically integrated into the main query where needed. Retain fallback logic (e.g., COALESCE) if applicable, to ensure functionality. I *may* upgrade at some point but after many conversations with chatGPT I was able to get code to do exactly the same thing and it's working without SET with it creating a temporary table. Let me know if you want the code in case others may be reluctant to move to 2.0.4.3 and want an alternative.

Ha! You think I know what any of it means? 😂 I've said it many times, I'm a coding dummy, BUT I don't let that stop me. ChatGPT is my coding assistant. Paste the SQL into a chat window and ask questions. After all, it came up with that code. Don't be scared to experiment. All you need to do is swap out my sub cats & other info for your own. Of course, backup your database before tinkering. Good luck!

In your example is your subcat 155 your music bed?

@@JadeStarwatcher Not sure what you mean, subcat 155 isn't in the code. If you mean genre 150, that's my Pop-MidTempo genre for music. For the query to be used in a rotation, look at the "AS" values, these explain what each code block is selecting.

Not really. While it's interesting, it many produces long form content. However, one idea would be to feed it info about a bunch of different songs/artists and then cut specific segments for air.

Great ideas re. syndicating your own content...little to no $$, unless you presell ads, but it is a way to spread your content. I think I'll do a video about that, as I did "syndicate" two hours from my station, XXX80s.com.

Interesting question, because they've required radio edits for so many other popular songs...usually to remove the classic four letter offenders. Perhaps gay slurs didn't ping the FCC's radar.
