What do you think of Luton? 😬 Is it as bad as people say?
I've lived in Luton almost my whole life and have always hated it and its gotten even worse, nothing to do here, not many decent jobs, a lot of good shops and stores have closed down and almost replaced by pound shops. I really want to move out but its not that simple
It’s not as bad as people say. It’s bad but not as bad as other areas in the UK
If you visit Luton, things to see are
Town Centre
Hat Factory
Uni of Beds
St Marys Church
High Town
Bury Park
LTFC (you missed our famous away end!)
Wardown Park
Stockwood Park
Airport
Train stations
Chiltern Hills (all round the outskirts of Luton)
Its an eclectic mix, but its not a bad place to live. People who talk it down are just jumping on stereotypes. But most have never explored it properly! Im born and bred here and i love my town!
Thanks for the recommendations! Luton definitely surprised us and with just a but more investment into the city and renovation, it would become a very pleasant place indeed :)
Hi Jay, congratulations on the video you made 😄
Hi Karolina you are always fantastic 😘
Yay! Thank you!
Anyone can do this as an experiment. Visit the surrounding towns near Luton as a comparison. Such as Watford, Hitchin, Stevenage, St Albans, Hemel Hempstead and Bedford. You'll see it's ALL the same - except they are 5 times more DULL than Luton. You'll be glad to be back in Luton where there is at least some noise and vibrancy.
In Luton, the restaurant choice is enormous. The supermarkets and stores are nice and huge. The Amazon, Superdrug, LIDL warehouses are colossal. The airport is the 5th busiest in the country. For such a compact town, it has a lot going for it. It's main problem is its narrow minded, corrupt government that refuses to expand outwards. It could have achieved city status by now with the right vision.
It looks like this town can't develop too much due to political considerations - a bit sad because as you write it has amazing potential 🙌 It will be interesting to see what the future brings because despite little investment in Luton's renovation and development, residents seem very happy living in this town!
We wanted to show a different side of Luton through Warrington village, which is a few minutes from the centre - not everyone knows the town so well to even think that such beautiful places are next door :)
Nice to hear the locals being positive about their town. Negativity is not good for business.
Yeah, we were glad to experience it :) And also quite confused expecting some complaints from their side! We think that actually bringing some negativity would actually improve how the things will be done in the future :)
This was a good starter video of Luton, as someone who was born in Luton I can say that Luton is an overlooked town for investment over decades. This has resulted in mismanagement by officials in power and appropriate structures being implemented and applied consistently over years. The people are wonderful in Luton what they need is focus on infrastructure, education and appropriate development of buildings for accommodation. Yes the hygiene in some parts is directly blamed at the Council for cutting back on cleaners around the town. Also policing is at an all time low so deterrents are at a low ebb. Overall it's still a town in development but at a slow pace. Btw you should of visited Stockwood park and LU2 areas to show the very nice parts of Luton.
You're right! The first impression of Luton is not very interesting as you can see the derelict shops and unrestored buildings, but it was easy to see that people coming out of this town were really pleased with the direction it was going in. It will be interesting to see what happens after the election and over the next few years! The accessibility to the airport gives Luton a lot of potential, so who knows, maybe it will get more capital for needed renovations :)
I can tell you a lot about Luton (and Dunstable). It used to be a thriving town until 1980 when the industry started being dismantled. People used to come from miles around to the nightclubs that are all gone now. The shopping centre used to be much better before M&S, Woolworths, Debenhams and the post office left. The pound shop used to be a British Home Stores and the market used to be really good before they made a mess of it. There is some lovely countryside around Luton of which some areas used to be very upmarket. Dunstable featured in some films as did the village of Aldbury.
Bury Park is not diverse, it is just about all Pakistani with good Pakistani shops. They are open to you because you have a camera. There is also a Polish community in Luton and I am surprised that you did not visit the huge Polish shop downstairs from the main entrance. They have a lovely coffee and cakes part in the shop. The square just outside the mall used to have grass and trees (one was 100s of yrs old) before the council wasted thousands on concrete slabs from China.
The long road where I visit is also not diverse. There are max 4 families who are white so I call that a minority not diverse. Those posh cars you saw could have been celebrating a wedding. Cars are a big thing in Luton and it is often necessary to walk in the road due to cars parked all over the pavements. It is the pavements that is the big danger in Luton. There are also fireworks going off all the year round when they get married.
I know I sound moany but when you know better and your eyes have been open to better, it is difficult to unknow things.
Thank you so much for sharing all that detailed information 🙏 We’re always trying to film in our vlogs the perspective of people visiting the place for the first time - which means that most of the time we will be kind of tourists that don’t have a possibility to know what it really is like living in a particular place. Nevertheless, we try to ask people’s opinions and actively share our thoughts and opinions 💭
Never been to Luton but really enjoyed seeing it through your lens, would love to see you guys visit Southend on Sea one day as I live not too far from the seafront but have not been in Southend for around 5 years and have been told it has changed a lot. Think a lot of shops have closed down but the seafront is still the same from what I hear but would be good to see through your lens. As always love watching your videos and such a friendly couple which more where like you guys :)
Thank you so much for watching and for the suggestion since we’re planning to film in the UK over the summer 😍🙏 We’re trying to be as natural as possible because only then you as a viewer can really get to know us and our thoughts! Again, thanks for your kind words!
My only impression of Luton was the “airport “while my studying periods in the U.K.😂😂
True that! Many people see it only like an airport town - but maybe if there had been more investments and efforts put into renovation and promotion of the town, people would more likely stay over night and do some sightseeing 🥳
Hej Karolino, dlatego nie pokazaliście co zamowiliscie do jedzenia (lokal Ala biblioteka)? Zrezygnowaliście?
We didn’t really feel like eating in Wetherspoon :) There’s a huge variety of food though!
When I moved to the UK, the first place where I lived was Luton. I also worked at Luton's airport for almost 5 years!
I can say I miss it that much, but there is something that makes me wanna go and have a fish&chips at Wigmore's one more time! It was delicious!
I would say Stevenage is worse than LTN
It’s interesting how people who live(d) in Luton really like(d) it :) That’s great to hear! In what way would you say Stevenage is worse?
@@JayeshChhaya it is an industrial city, close to the motorway, ugly apartment buildings and a lot of shady people. The main bus station and train stations are right next to the high street, which is a small narrow passage full of poundshops and Greg's alike. Overall feels like a doggy emigrant/commuter city.
You should make some videos in Devon/Cornwall, or even the Cotswolds! Time to see the best of the UK after that haha
That's the plan! We’re actually planning to film the entire UK series over the summer 😍 It’s quite funny how our first videos are about not-so-nice places but we’ve just finished couple of videos in London 😍
We’re planning to do more of bigger cities and resorts town but were thinking of Cotswolds too!
It appears here that Luton has a littering problem. This is something they should address if they want to create a better impression of themselves.
Great remark! We actually talked about it after filming that it’s actually so easy to pay attention to, especially if your council is being run in an effective way 🙏
Certainly colourful and diverse. I felt the same way about it looking like Southall. It may seem safe to walk around during the daylight hours, probably not so at night. I'm sure there are far worse places to live. But I feel quite fortunate to be living where I am in comparison, in WestLondon
Thank you for the walking tour!
I can totally understand you :) Our aim was to investigate how it is to live in Luton and showcase the town from the most authentic perspective and to our surprise, even if some of the areas were quite abandoned or not looked after people seemed very happy with the direction it’s heading towards. Definitely we wouldn’t feel comfortable after the sunset but people’s opinions also made us realise that maybe it’s pictured way worse than it actually is 😌
Thank you so much for watching!
It’s not a coincidence that the areas with the most diversity are the most run down towns,
Yeah… I wonder why the city council doesn’t do anything with it. Imagine if all them areas were renovated - the town would gain a new reputation and all them efforts would contribute for sure to the promotion of the region too 🙏
@@JayeshChhaya I think its more of a culture issue, I have travelled all over the world like you and there are some places where the people do not take care of their surroundings, then people come to the UK and bring that lifestyle here and then you get an imported way of living.
I am not sure if I changed my mind - each city can be nice once you know were to go. Although you got nice interactions with locals and many people said food is good, there are still some no-goes there to me and would prefer to visit other parts of UK 🇬🇧 Thanks for this vlog though! At least, I don’t need to travel to Luton to discover it 😅
Haha thank you Pamela for your honest opinion :) I believe it would encourage the town’s council to put more efforts into renovation of Luton!
There are some cities, towns and areas in the UK I would avoid and Luton is one of them. Just no reason for me to visit. Greggs for me is a quick snack and I only go for the chicken bake and my partner prefers the sausage roll or the beef but have to eat while they are hot.
Fair enough :) We actually enjoyed our day out in Luton but agreed that we couldn’t live there haha 100%
I personally like Greggs from time to time and as we said all the things are quite tasty (considering the mass production & the price) but they definitely need to be warm 🔥
Did the people doing the ranking not visit Goole
www.thesun.co.uk/news/21318353/englands-worst-places-revealed/
This is my first time catching one of your videos and I didn't catch your girlfriends name so i apologise for that. However as a Brit i just wanted to say that she was very polite. It's strange, as i feel like i can call a place a s***hole when it is but if someone from another country originally does, i find myself getting very defensive 😂. Even if it is a dump.
No worries at all mate! We really appreciate comments from people like you - respectful and polite :) You can call me Jay and my girlfriend is Karolina. Yeah it’s a weird one right - I think I’m the same 😂
I am vegetarian and those vegan sausages rolls from Greggs are a great snack. Even better if they are hot from the oven.
I would definitely say that the filling was my favourite too! 🌱 There was so much flavour and also the pastry was a bit more crunchy and fresh in my opinion :) [Karolina]
Good objective video but i think focusing on specific houses and cars could be considered as being in poor taste
Thanks for watching! I like to pay attention to the houses and cars because they often reflect the status and wealth of the people from a particular region :)
@@JayeshChhaya I can see where your coming from but i think there should be some compromise between that and the privacy of the owners 🤷🏽♂️. Nonetheless good video 👍🏽
Have you ever made delivery food in this city?
I actually did! Haha
Come to Milton Keynes
Thanks for the recommendation! Is there anything specific you'd want us to film there :)?
Also there are plenty of better food outlets in the Mall than Greggs!!!!
Karolina has never tried Greggs so wanted to include her reaction in this video since it's so close to all the Brits' hearts :)
Do a vlog in huddersfield bro
Thanks for the suggestion! Any recommendations what specifically should we do over there? 😄
@@JayeshChhaya what you did here 🤔
you cycled in birkby and fartown, why don’t you do a walking tour this time. Show the area…..
@@aunraza8705 oh you’ve seen that video! 😂😅
@@JayeshChhaya Yeah it was good, if you can do like a walking tour from huddersfield town centre to birkby/ fartown particularly around bradford road that would be good
It's overcrowded, run down, dirty. Offers a very low standard of living. Too many built up areas, bad traffic, narrow roads. Loads of beggars outside shops and in retail parks. Lots of crime.
It’s interesting how nobody from the people we met pointed these things out… We definitely saw that there’s a room for improvement in Luton but couldn’t really see the „dangerous” things around. Hope they’ll do something about it to make it more pleasant for everyone because the town has a huge potential 🙏
I guess if you like loud, busy City type living and bad traffic then Luton is the place to be😂
1: 59 😂😂😂
Diverse certainly it is 😜
Good luck to the Green candidate when Luton is a struggling old Industrial town and has a major airport that is crucial for its economic survival.
Yeah that might be to huge issue tbh 😅 Unless a great amount of investments goes into renewable energy sources 🌱
there is a Big Hindu and Gujerati community in Luton. Alot of Asians - maybe that is why foljk are brandishing it worst town - is simply racist. Try Chelmsley Wood in Birmingham. You won't believe your eyes. Its 100% BNP British.
Thanks for sharing all the data Rosie 👀 Birmingham is actually on our list so just noted the areas you’ve just mentioned! Is there anything else you’d want us to show on the video?!
@@JayeshChhaya ahh thank you for asking. I think the Vibrant Asian Communties and how they have HELPED BUILD BIRMINGHAMS ECONOMY. From the Biggest Sikh Temple in the United Kingdom on Soho Road, Handsworth to the Nationally Famous Balti Triangle .. to Brindleyplace and all the PanAsian Fusion Restaurants . We also have Michelin Star South Asian cuisine - on Summers Row. To the Proud Asian Heritage Art and Global Theatre on Display at places like The Birmingham Rep Theatre. Symphony Hall showcases World famous artists like Ravi Shankar and Rahet Fateh Ali Khan from time to time . We have beautiful parks, green spaces, reservoirs and of course are World Famous Birmingham Hybrid Hospitality. 👍🏻⭐️🍸🍸
That white lady that said Luton has not changed lie to you Luton was a better town in 97 it just a shithole now and I live here all my life
Hmmm, the opinions are divided I guess :) What would you say you don't like Luton for? It was hard for us to get some maybe let's say more negative options because most of the people we came across were very happy to live in this town!
@@JayeshChhaya yeah but in 97 it was still a proper English Town now it just a horrible place every nationally going I am not racist but it not nice to walk around your own town and here so many different voices
@@stephenrice1592There were loads of irish and asians in the late 90s
@user-qt8gi8tb5u yeah my dad is from Ireland at least you can understand them lol
@@stephenrice1592 so he’s not english then
ITS STILL NOT SAFE TO LIVE...DUE HIGH CRIME +MOBILE PHONE +SCOOTER+EBIKE ARE HIGH THEIF...😢ALSO HIGH UNEMPLOYED...
That’s interesting that people have so many different opinions… Thanks for sharing it with us! Hopefully the town will change something for the better 🙏
I think veg bakes is best gregs with meat are not best pizza is ok, Luton was always bad to wave of Roms totally destroy the town
We found both the sausage rolls very tasty - the original one and veggie 😇 We were quite surprised how the inhabitants were positive about their town and that actually it was only lacking some renovation efforts - but Luton itself has a big potential!
Luton what a dump,
And where do you live dagenham
@@dar799 Live in sunny France lol enjoying the EU
Fair enough 😂 For us the town really has a huge potential but the funds are not put into the renovation efforts...
😂 broken britain, love from dubai
Luton is in a bit of a dilapidated state because the town council doesn't invest in redevelopment, but I hope it will change soon haha. Thank you for watching 👀 Wow! You reached us from Dubai!!!
I have to be honest here as a white british man I feel uncomfortable seeing parts of Luton which is in Britain and not Pakistan with Urdu embossed outside their homes but not one word in English. And unlike mass immigration in the past with the Windrush generation and the Jews, neither came here to change British culture. Yes they brought their culture but they assimilated and treated British culture as number 1. This is why this type of immigration will never work unless they adopt British values and culture first before their own cultures they bring here. Also, I wonder why when I see the Palestinian flag I do not see the British flag and the Israeli flag alongside. If you are a true humanitarian you will have 3 flags on show and not just the Palestinian flag which feels hostile to me. And why do we see a supermarket called Euro Market and not British market? In line with diversity which is being shoved down our throats by the mainstream media and causing division instead of unity. This is why we see hostility at the moment in the U.K. because diversity is all about loving the EU while hating the U.K..
You are right but there is a reason for that. When the first wave of brtisih Pakistanis came they had to endure racial abuse not only from the public but also the police. This created a huge mistrust of everything and anything British. They didn't choose to segregate but we're forced to because of racism. Now they live in a parallel society where once you get used to it it makes it hard to get out specifically since Pakistanis are getting married from Pakistan mostly and not in England so assimilation becomes impossible
I agree that people coming to Britain should integrate and adopt British values/culture. That's what my family has done. The Euro market I understand because it's mostly European foods/products - not British products 😅
you guys are reviewing Greggs ? LOL - GREGGS doesn't originate from Luton ! Try Southall Greggs or Leciester or Soho Road in Birmingham. Compare those Greggs too .
LOL #CLOWNS
Money lootin' Luton.
Is it a lot of crime or thefts over there? From our research Luton isn't the best place to live in but people seemed quite content and safe 🙌
There's not many British people here..."yeah we can actually turn the camera around and see that"....*camera turns around and it's 100% White British people*...."uh this actually used to be a cinema here" 🤣. Also, you can't tell people aren't British just from looking at them. Might as well just say there aren't any White people here.
Hahaha, that's so true 😜 Sometimes it's difficult to capture everything on the camera you want but there's this general feeling of unsafely or suspicious environment - at least that's what we experienced parts of the city. Nothing really bad happened throughout that day but it's hard to judge what the town is really like visiting it only once!
Very disappointed when your talking to the green party candidate and you fast forward him talking bit rude of you I notice you cut people chat of in your other videos also
I'm sorry you feel that way. I fast forwarded because he was rambling on and spewing political talk that felt very rehearsed and wasn't addressing the problems Luton is facing. Have you not seen all the politicians at the moment just reading off scripts and responding to questions like a robot? It felt very much like that for me. With that being said he was a nice man at the end of the day and I gave him a platform to say what he wanted to say and so I'd have to disagree with you.
@@JayeshChhaya”gave him a platform to say what he had to say”
meanwhile you just confessed that you censored him because he was rumbling on, like, come on dude 🙄🤷🏾♂️
Green party more like sharia party rn😂
Why do commenters here think Luton needs to be a City?? We have enough large cities in the UK. We do NOT need yet another large Urban Sprawl eating into our Amazingly beautiful countryside. Typical townie response, no thought for the loss of beautiful untouched green spaces which the current government and future government are happy to see concreted over and populated with poorly built 'modern' homes. I despair!
Our goal was not to persuade the authorities to turn this town into another metropolis, but to draw attention to what could or should be improved. To our surprise, despite everything, the residents whom we asked about their life satisfaction were very positive. However, we are curious how Luton will change, because it has potential, but unfortunately it does not enjoy the best reputation.
