I was told about this review and I want to thank you for the compassionate and understanding way in which you have approached it. I wrote the book at the behest of Dr Erika Freeman, the eminent psychoanalyst who was a great friend of my sister-in-law Jeannie (Lady Jean Campbell), so knew the inside track. Erika felt my (really our, the whole family's) story could be a possible help to others who were trapped in narcissistic relationships, if only because our survival showed that one doesn't need to be destroyed. Out of pain and turmoil can come strength as well as understanding, which will ultimately be life-enhancing. And your're so right about my beloved brother Mickey. He was such a wonderful person, as were my grandmother, aunt and grandfather. Thank you so much. It is much appreciated.

I read LCC’s book a couple of years ago. It was heartbreaking to read how she and her siblings were terrorized by their narcissist mother. Through her strength of character and cleverness, Georgie managed to survive not only her mother’s NPD but the terrible, awful, no-good man that she married.
Her sweet dog Mickey (Mickie ?) who appears at the start of almost every YT video was named in loving tribute to her brother.

She is a strong character with a dry and wicked sense of humour. And she's extremely gracious. I know her story from what I've read and from our conversation. Yes, it does bring back some painful memories....many that I had blocked, but it is a riveting book as well. Knowing how this fine lady we know as Lady C had such a horrific home life (like ours) yet survived, was truly inspiring. I wish I'd had half the courage she has. I remained under my mother's thumb until she died. I'm 73 and she died 5 years ago. I only wish she had died sooner. But at last I'm free.

Yes, this too is a dilemma for me, as to whether to read it now or later. I have three years of intensive trauma therapy under my belt, that has helped me enormously in coming to terms with what I/we experienced in childhood, how that shaped my brain, how I experienced the world, into a very, very unhealthy, poorly functioning thing, despite my temperament, values, ethics, positive characteristics. I'm only writing this here, with the chance it may let you know, if you don't already, that great healing is possible from abuse/neglect in childhood, no matter what form or intensity that took. It really is.

I read the book, and my one takeaway: I miss my mother! She's been gone 13 years now, and she was a kind, loving person who sacrificed for her husband and four children. She was a nurse, and she gave of her time and expertise to everyone in the neighborhood---from people needing B12 injections weekly to children who were injured when they fell off their bikes. She was there. Lady C's mother was nothing like my mother----and for that fact I am grateful every day. Narcissists are destructive in many ways, but the resiliency of children is often stressed to the max when they must deal with a narcissistic mother.

I also think Lady C survived and thrived due to her high IQ, no amount of “strength of character” would have stopped that hours of beating from her husband. I believe that she survived the beating because she was smart to stage her own suicide, smart and creative. Except for the part where she married him! That was not smart.

Most definitely, higher IQ can be significantly advantageous in helping children whilst abuse/neglect etc is happening and how to find your way through thereafter. It's not essential, but from my own experience, looking back... I got myself through and out of some very dangerous situations, not knowing how at the time and don't think I would have survived had I not be able to think things through so quickly, make snap decisions and follow through. Maybe it was just survival instincts kicking in, IDK. It took me a long, long time to accept that the all of the results of my extensive IQ and personality structure testing came out with the results it do. I did not believe them, was convinced they had the wrong person - on the TWO occasions several years apart this was undertaken - because it was drilled so strongly into me as a child and throughout early adult years that I was stupid and responsible for my inability to function (when in reality it was because I was extremely traumatised). Now, I'm finally beginning to see it as a blessing, a tool that can help with my recovery, and still give me a chance to do some of the things I've dreamt of doing to reach at least some of my potential.

@@permissiontoshine Your story is amazing to me. I sometimes call it “childhood denied”. But as you’ve pointed out the intellectual agility that got you through was also denied to you. You weren’t encouraged to exercise/develop/use your brainpower, to the point you doubted it existed. It seems like the most outrageous gaslighting. I am thrilled to read that you’re becoming more whole, more you, that the mantle of your intelligence is finally going to be seen and heard. Is suspect reaching your potential will be thrilling to you, and potentially a lot of others. I learned, not that recently, that prolonged trauma in childhood can result in giftedness. This information was pushed in front of my nose as test results. Way before that, in grade two the teachers selected me to go to a school for the gifted. But I didn’t go. I asked my N mom why, and she told me I wasn’t smart enough. I applaud your recovery and the brilliant things you are going to finally unleash.

In the picture with Doria and Nutmeg he looked so terrified. It felt so heart wrenching. Lilli will probably face problems if she overshadows her mother´s looks at a later stage. Nutmeg is really living through all the fairy tales - the Mermaid, Mother Hulda( her and Kate) , Rapunzel ( hiding the children-mine!) and later probably Snowwhite. Only, who is always the villain?

It is difficult to even grasp that she lived with a monster of a mother and then married someone who battered her even more. .What struck me about Lady C's book was the fact she knew very well of her mother's cruelty but even well into adulthood, tried over and over with her. She learned to protect herself better but she still gave what she could to her sadistic and self centred mother.

A great Lady, I didn’t know about the book, I will certainly get it . Valuable insight into narcissistic behavior , rising above that level of abuse is no mean feat.
Thank heavens there was a other relatives who showed her kindness and support, so very sad Lady C’s brother died before time, his cancer no doubt brought about by stress.
The puzzle for me is why her father allowed himself to be emasculated, a handsome successful business man, bullied into a shell of a man.? Like many other viewers , I can relate to this scenario all too well.
Thank you a balanced review of Lady CC book.

Wonderful review, I am definitely interested in reading this book. Snippets of her backstory have always been in the public forum, and I have read that Lady C is a wonderful writer, so it will be a delight to read. One wonders how someone could go through so much in life, and still be a well-rounded, caring, funny person. Lady C has been able to overcome so much, and her experience carries a lot of credible weight, particularly in these days of modern victimhood. Thanks.

I did read daughters of narcissus. I was able to learn more about narcissists from her book because of the descriptions of the behavior of her mother. This was very useful for me in identifying a family member with this disorder. However, I wasn't able to keep the book because of the intensity of her experience it made me feel sad and I didn't want to remember that. She is one of my favorites on TH-cam, not because of her strength, but because of her joy, lightness and sense of humor. It is evident to me that the Lord got her through this, and brought her to a whole new life through faith in him. She the true version of what he intended her to be ❤

As a 'survivor' of a narcissistic mother, this empathic review is touching and very interesting. Somehow, having been her mother's favourite to begin with strikes me as having been part of Lady Colin Campbell's resilient nature--a subjective view as I know all about the pervasive struggles of being the one less loved or the one not loved at all.

A true inspiration. Having experienced the traumatic side of childhood too, its always encouraging to see others who have gone on to achieve success in spite of these demonic parents. Self pity and negativity perpetuate the trauma, whereas success and happiness puts things in better perspective. I relate to how grandparents can be the pillars. Mine absolutely were the epitome of who I aspired to be. For them, I am eternally grateful. Faith is a cornerstone.

I haven't read the book, sorry, but I'm getting the feel of it. You do know how to entice to get people to read.
I'm reminded of videos by TeraminTrees and Qualiasoup, where they explain exquisitely what life with a narcissist parent is like and all the psychology behind it. Combined with this book by Lady C I really worry for Archie and to a lesser extent Lili.
Ever since the Netflix mockumentary I had a feeling Archie was "liked" by Meghan until he could walk and talk. That he became too much work at that point. Don't ask me why, it's just an intuition.
Then I felt soon after Lili's birth that she was favoured by Meghan over Archie. But we didn't see or hear any news about her since her first birthday. I find it disturbing knowing what Meghan is. And yet I have to let it go, because society has no answer to narcissist parents.

Think it was removed, but when her husband saw her birth certificate shortly after marriage saying she was a boy, he divorced her. I may have got some details wrong Shauna but how tragic. I just finished this incredible book. I commented on one of her U-tube videos that I couldn’t believe she could survive such a difficult and painful childhood. Her mother was so evil and cruel to her and her siblings. This amount of child abuse is actually criminal even back all those years ago. I am in awe of Lady C’s ability to overcome this evil and devious behavior. Her success today is indicative of her innate intelligence and common sense. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is experiencing a narcissistic parent or who is a fan of our lovely Lady C. It is over 600 pages but well worth reading.

I read that book about 2 years ago. When she started her channel, shortly after I read it, I started watching her because of the book. I was inspired by her determination to not only survive but to make her life as fulfilling and successful as possible. If you want to understand narcissism in action this , other than Meghan, this is the book to read. I often think of that book and the way her Father behaved when I see and read about how Harry has completely changed since meeting Meghan and the destructive impact Meghan has on anything she touches. The similarities between Gloria and Meghan are eye opening and make me really fear for the Sussex children, if they are in her care.
