@@SaraisDaughter And many fathers around the world are spending less time than they want with their children because they're busy putting food on the table -- and luckily, many aren't resented for that, but cherished. Yes, Charles didn't have to worry about that, but he still, as a future head of state, had a responsibility to the UK and the Commonwealth, too.
And from what I've heard, he did his best to be a good father. Was he perfect? No, no father is. But he doesn't strike me as a horrible father who didn't give a damn about the welfare of his sons.

It’s hard to grasp that Diana would give her staff the cold shoulder, as she grew up with staff working in her father’s mansions. It reveals not only an immature character but a rather mean one who can’t think beyond her own immediate needs. Harry seems to have inherited that nasty streak from his mother. Diana is alleged to have said as much, that Harry was dim like her.

There is always a difference between the heir and spare, but the heir isn't spoiled he has to work harder, learn manners, learn how to meet and greet people, he can't play up or be naughty and is expected to get good grades at school & university and learn different languages.
The spare has always had a easier life, the playboy prince, the one allowed to party, to be a little cheeky,
Look back at who is sticking his tongue out to camera's it's Harry, who is being cheeky, it's Harry.
So perhaps William got rewarded for being good, but Diana always said she and Charles treated them the same,
Harry should be pleased he isn't the heir, he got to do what he wanted in life, it's only since he got married that he resents being the spare and that's because his wife wants to be Queen

I also think that personality has a part to play, some people would be perfectly happy to be the second born in a royal family, freedom and all the nice bits without too much of the duty, but you probably have to be secure in your self, a well balanced and happy person, unfortunately, the spare is not those things now clearly.

I saw an interview with William and Harry, and Harry was laughing about all the extra classes in language and history that ‘Wills got.’ Plus ‘private lessons with HMTQ,’ Harry was chuckling about being about being able to play polo while ‘Wills was always about the lessons.’
Yet at the Sandringham Summit, Harry wanted to be ‘Co-king with William but live in America.’
As an American, I could not have resisted making a shot about the Revolutionary War, and there is no such thing as ‘Co-King’. That dude had to be helped to cheat by THE TEACHER to pass Art! He was hustled through Sandhurst. How to tell someone stupid why his plane had no legs to it.

Clearly Diana was great with ordinary folk and a real asset to the RF. however I do think she was petulant at times, and had a brittle shell, she knew she was beloved of the people, and definitely played on that. If a famous woman is beautiful, they will always have the upper hand in the public eye, the press love pics of gorgeous young women, men not so much, it’s sad but true. I do think she could easily cut people off as well, she was a Cancer sign, water, KC was Scorpio, water sign, both sensitive, brittle and quite secretive signs. I am not a horoscope believer but do think that birth signs are quite reflective of the people born under them. She definitely needed and loved to be adored, most people would like that though I suppose.

Intriguing book! I love to hear more about it.
Harry talks of this difference in approach of him compared to William in Spare. Coming from a partially Asian family it was our brother who enjoyed preferential treatment compared to us girls. So I find it petty from Harry to complain about it, because he's never wanted for anything he needed. He's no Harry Potter.
And life is unfair. Everybody comes with their own character and personal needs and often these collide. As an adult you deal with the experiences of your childhood and you carve your own path. But Harry can't seem to accept that principle. That's on him, and not on William. Grow up, Harry!!

Of course, the truth will never be known. And the truth cannot account for an individual's perspective.

@Gaibz That is exactly what happened with Queen Victoria's eldest son. The teacher was vicious with him because he felt that it was his responsibility to prepare the boy for ruling.
Prince Charles was also dealt with very, very harshly at his school. Even his protection officers went on record to say it was terrible and cruel, and he had no one. All the other boys treated him cruelly on top of the masters. In fact, the protection officer was his only friend and confidante, I believe. He spoke to Prince Philip and the Queen, but Prince Philip felt that it was required to harden him up. Charles did not send his sons to the same Scottish school.

His parents made no mistakes with Charles. Firstly, they had enormous responsibilities and a huge workloads thrust upon them unexpectedly, and secondly, those were very different times. There was nothing at all unusual, amongst royals and aristocrats, in being away from their children for long periods of travel etc.. Charles and Anne had normal upbringings, for their class and time.

Charles’ parents were not wonderful parents, better so with Andrew and Edward who came along quite a lot later. It wasn’t even possible to be good parents to their first children. Elizabeth had already begun her young family when she unexpectedly became Queen and found herself working from morning until late at night. She and Philip also went on many tours and were away from their children for weeks at a time. The new king is a much better father and family man than the Queen and Prince Philip were (through no fault of their own) but having been a good father all the boys’ lives, despite the nonsense Harry spouts, it hasn’t made him a wise king in relation to his youngest. Not that he’s not wise, but in regards to Harry he should have done something about their departure the moment they left, or as soon after as he could. Harry’s defection…err separation…from royal life should have been set out in a legal document spelling out what the new terms of an absentee royal would be. That’s where the issue has arisen. The late Queen also should have done more to legalise things. I hope King Charles will find a way to be both a good father and a good king for the sake of our country.

I just had an epiphany about Harry. We ridicule him for his jealousy of William, but when you think about everyone arrayed around William and giving him more of everything, for YEARS, when you are a child and unable to process it, that must get so embedded in your psyche. Then along comes the spider with her almost instant envy of William and Catherine for their higher position, and BOOM, it is a supercharged resentment.

      According to Tom Bower
      once he was riding with
      Diana and the boys. Harry
was taunting William (Harry at the time was 7, I believe) and he said to William, "You will be king but *I* will get to do whatever I want!"
So Harry wasn't as stupid as some people believed he was. He understood perfectly the difference between himself and William who nearly always had to have "best foot forward". And
it was in the infamous Oprah interview that Harry made a major reveal, "I didn't know I was unhappy, until she (looks at Meghan) told me I was."

She was treated for having a serious mental issue of bulimia or anorexic at one point. She finally was trying to be healthy in mind and body before she passed. I believe her own family upbringing had something to do with her issues. She brought them into the marriage. Privileged instability..it happens…privilege does not equal infallibility. Harold has never admitted he was a lot of his own problems in his youth. Dianna spoiled him..overcompensate the dysfunction in their home at times. He was her last child..her baby. She as he grew older had problems controlling his spoiled behavior. After her death..the RF overlooked and covered things that we will never know about his own behavior over compensation from loss of his Mother. He was basically a brat. Still is..married one ..never works out well. Mean spirits don’t disappear unless you work hard to change.

Diana came from one of Britain’s most aristocratic families. Yes she was young, and certainly inexperienced in living within the RF. But she DID know and understand what her role was, and how she was to behave. She had various neurosis, and undoubtedly psychiatric problems (diagnosed or not), that influenced how she mothered her children. I’ve never believed she was as “hands on” of a mother as has always been said. And obviously the children paid the price.

Hiya Shawna ~ Thanks! This does sound like a delightful read!
Did you ever read the book, written by the late Queen & Margaret’s Nanny? I know she was sacked for it, but I think it was a puff piece?
A total tangent. (Sorry. I’ve been in Google, trying to get to the bottom of her story.) From what I’ve garnered so far, MM’s past is even wilder than I ever imagined. It, totally, makes sense that she’s markled everyone from her past! She can’t risk them bringing up events of their shared past with her. Did you know, Omid Liebrows, and Marcus were an item at one time? There are too many stories, from different sources, that MM was a real yacht girl!! Even with her job in Suits, during the show’s hiatus, she would fly to Miami or a European port, where a yacht week was happening.
You’ve read every book about her & Harry. What do you think? It just makes so much sense, I mean, why she, officially, has no real past. Does her father have stories that would contradict her “truth”? She could visit him alone!
Thanks, again. Can’t wait for the next installment!

The Queen Mother was said to have given William more attention than Harry because William was to be king. Children sense these slights and they are not easily forgotten. And yes I know Harry inherited more $$ from the QM than did William.
I have this book and have read it several times. It is a great read because the author doesn't have an agenda as most royal biographers do.

The Queen Mother was £8 million in debt when she died due to her lavish lifestyle,so who coughed up the money?
