- This is rental car number 82 and today I'm driving the 2018 Nissan Armada. This is a full-sized SUV that seats 7, has a big V8, and can (apparently) do 0 to 60 is 5.9 seconds.

So, I was looking to buy a 3 row midsize SUV and shortlisted to top trims of VW Atlas and Honda Atlas for about 58k CAD incl tax. I also test drove the new Expedition. The Platinum version was 20k outside my budget but it was a really good vehicle. Ultimately, I bought the Armada Platinum 2018 for around 67k CAD incl taxes. I like the commanding seating position, the super powerful engine, all the safety features, the cameras, the lights, the 20" black alloy rims, the 4x4.
Could’ve gotten the Infiniti QX80 base for same price and same features
"its a little slow" Hmmm, yeah ok lol. Every independent test has this thing 0-60 in under 6 seconds, plenty of videos here on youtube. And yes, its a 2x4, no silver 4x4 knob.
Word Life I have a 2014 QX80. With the 22” rims and premium fuel it would hit 60 in 5.6 seconds very consistently. I have 18” rims (same tire height for speedo) now and it will hit 0-60 in 5.3’seconds. The comicalness of this guy calling a 6,000 pound suv that is faster than most cars “slow” is off the charts. My buddy has a 2010 g37x coupe and I can beat him easily to 60 lol

I have this Armada and I love it! Mine is a 4x4 as I use it to haul a boat. I switched from a Ford Explorer so for me, I consider it an upgrade.

These are great SUV's. A bit smaller and easier to manage than the Expedition, Tahoe, and Yukon. Your rental is the 5.6 SV model, as it has cloth seats, all of the others (5.6 SL, 5.6 Platinum) have leather seats. If there wasn't a 4X4 knob, it's a 4X2.
It's not a 4x4. All 2017+ models are All-Wheel Drive. Same concept though.

If you only drove it for 170 miles did that really give you enough time to get used to the buttons?
SL comes with a lot more options.
The dial is for if it had the 4-Hi and 4-Lo and it is also always AWD
We have been looking for a nice used full sized SUV and we test drove a 2018 Armada Platinum last week after driving a Sequoia, 4Runner and GX460. My wife and I were both very impressed with the Nissan even after deciding to never own another back years ago.
That's interesting. Do you find the Armada better than the Sequoia? And why? I am looking for an SUV with sufficient space behind the 3rd row to put a couple of suitcases. Grateful for your advice, thanks.
@v10cylinder We did like the Armada better. It seemed to be a better overall package and I thought it drove better. We ended up buying a Land Cruiser. It's a real tank, much higher quality than the Saquoia, and solid as a rock. We just took a trip from Indianapolis to Zion NP and got 16 to 20 mpg. Not bad for such a stout SUV.
@@largelarry2126 Many thanks, this is helpful! PS: A Land Cruiser is a different animal. Smaller (no 'full size') and more of a real 4x4 than a SUV. But of course a fantastic car - congrats!
You could swap the logo and not tell the difference...? Hmm...? YEAH YOU COULD...!!! If you look at the 2017 QX80 vs Armada the front grille and hood designs are COMPLETELY different. The QX80 looks like a friggin freightliner semi truck the way the hood and headlights are lower from each other. There are also subtle but noticeable differences to the rear of each vehicle if you look hard enough. So they are NOT exactly the same. Lastly if you get beige interiors on both vehicles depending upon year. The Armada has a black dash panel. Where as the QX80 is beige throughout that area.

oh wow, a "no!" I wasnt expecting that lol. So far I have only seen your "yes" ones. Sorta exciting. So, Why a "no?" It seemed like not really a standout for anything in particular here so maybe that is why.
It's just not a very good vehicle in my opinion. A little bland and not much fun to drive.

Oh thanks. Its derived from a flip flop gate which is a term I learned years ago from my electrical engineering classes. I think some people believe it has to do with flip flop foot wear or an indecisive mind.
flipfloplogic if your 85 yrs old then you might need blind side technology, you rely too much of that and not your real senses you might have issues at a younger age
I don't need blind side tech. I'm 49. I've driven for years just fine without it but its one of those things that you don't realize how you lived without it until you have it then you don't want to live without it. I own a challenger. It feels like I'm driving a boat sometimes. Its huge. I'm thankful it has blind side tech.
I have a friend who thought of a crazy idea...
Take a Nissan Versa Note.. strap a V8 engine inside of it and paint it the color of vomit.
On paper if it existed.. it's transmission would shatter harder than a man's dream on a Monday. And it would rumble the car harder than a Hot Topic store.
I'd still rather have that than this outdated Nissan.

Agreed. I think Nissan needs a major refresh of most of their vehicles. The only one I really like is the Maxima.
