How to Clean a Drain Pump Filter for a Washing Machine: Step-by-Step Walkthrough with Disassembly

Demonstration showing how to clean the drain pump filter at the bottom of a washing machine. This is important to do since a clogged filter can require the drain pump in your washing machine to work harder, reducing its lifespan. Ultimately, a fully clogged filter or broken pump will result in the water from the wash not being emptied.
The filter is typically recommended to be cleaned every 3 months, but this varies on your washing machine usage.
Tool Needed: Toothbrush, Small Water Catch Basin, Rag/Towel
Open the filter access panel at the bottom of the machine. Pull out hose from clip. Then, while holding end over water catch, pull out stopper to let water drain. After water finishes draining, unscrew (counterclockwise) filter and remove. Clean filter and filter hole. Reassembly is reverse.
