Alien Romulus Symbolic Red Flags? Plus Lab Analysis video.
Thanks for tuning in you fine people and fans of the Alien franchise. In this video I discuss some of the symbolic meaning related to mythology in yet another Alien movie and also analyse the new lab image that is a little revealing you could say. Hope you enjoy and please remember that I seek to be objective in my thoughts and am not trashing the movie as I haven't seen it yet. I honestly wish the best for this film as I would love a great Alien movie but I have also been disappointed far too many times.

Let me know if you agree or whether you like the symbolism relating to mythology. Again, let's hope this film is good when it hits in August, I want nothing else. I can just sadly see the potential for Romulus to go the same path as many are flops in the past. Either way, subscribe if you want those future updates as well as other videos and stay safe guys and girls.

I don’t mind the symbolism thing, I’m sure they’ll explain it more in the film or maybe not, if the movie is good I don’t think anyone will really care about an underlying theme or message.

@@ArcanumAscent it's so weird they didn't explore it as you say. Along with many of the important issues you discuss, for me, the words "young cast" may ultimately matter most. Only one of the main actors (David Jonsson) is even 30; the rest are mid-20's. Let's think about that: A bunch of wet-behind-the-ears characters are somehow experienced enough to command a ship out to the far reaches of space. And then proceed to get themselves into a bit of trouble, with their parents safely back on earth golfing. That alone compromises the plot right out of the gates. It didn't need a geriatric captain figure, but it's hard to imagine this group pulling us in the way a proper suspense sci-fi cast should.

My thoughts as well. I hope it is not the case but it may end up pulling us into an unwanted landscape of teen drama and all the chippings that come with that. The crew of the Nostromo were flawless because you believed they just wanted to get home and get on with there already well lived lives. If Romulus is all about young adults with their insatiable need to explore then.... no thanks.

I love Alien and Aliens, I also really like Alien 3. Imo, they could have made Alien 3 without any of the same characters from the second movie. A random ship with an Alien crash lands on the prison planet and you know the rest... I would also be fine with the studios suggesting Alien 3 was another one of Ripleys bad dreams in cryosleep. When it comes to Romulus it's easy for me. If it is a success then it's canon for me, if it fails, it's in the same category as everything else Alien... Which is to say, Interesting but not part of my Alien universe :)

    • @ENTERTAINtheDUDE

Great insight. If they had gone that route then it would have meant the story could have been continued with Ripley, Newt and Hicks. I'm also with you on Romulus. If it's good then I'll accept it as canon also. If it is mediocre and also ties in existing characters and connective tissue to Alien and Aliens then I'm gonna get irritated haha

I believe the reason why im giving Romulus the benefit of the doubt is because Ridley isnt heavily responsible for the film nor directing it...Fede is. He understands this genre well and seems to be acutely aware of the lore and wanted to get back to basics. Practical effects, claustrophobia, amp the horror aspects, and serve new and terrifying alien scenes we havent explored before.

Ok so first of all there is a huge space station not a spaceship. The teaser trailer shows only scenes from the space station, and by the looks of it, we can safe assure say that the movie will take part 100% inside the space station and not on some forgotten planet like the prequels, and there’s a whole lot of fun and movie making you can do in there, I bet! Get your hopes up man, it’s Fede Alvarez we’re talking about here… he knows his stuff and promised us from his interview a lot of gory scenes which brings it back to the older films. His take like every other director David Fincher and Jean-Pierre Jeunet other than Scott and Cameron they have all expressed their vision a bit differently to be like a fresh wind and for what it’s worth this film will give us smth to look forward to. All we need to know about this new film is that international audiences wouldn't give big returns, and domestic audiences would be confused or offended by the realistic, believable characters in the original two films. Ripley having a maternal role towards a young girl is offensive, she can only be tough and scowl for instance. I think this movie will be all right, but if they're going back to retread old ground, the problem is that ground is no longer fertile so it'll just never be as good as it was. Maybe it'll be fine, but nowadays I don't see how it could be great. I think they're gonna play it too safe cos they're worried about returns.

Based on the title, we all should be concerned. Romulus was the founder of Rome, and he had a twin named Remus. Romulus killed Remus over a disagreement on where to build the city. The two were a miraculus birth, being that the father is the Roman god Mars. You know... the god of war. You notice that the movie's name isn't Remus; it's Romulus, the twin who lived.
So I'm gonna call it right here. This film is set between Alien and Aliens. We're gonna find out that Weyland-Yutani actually created the Xenomorph as we see in Aliens. Romulus is going to retcon how the Xenos overtook Hadley's Hope. The first four movies all stated that Human interests have been wanting to research the Xenomorph for use as a weapon. And that falls in line with the Prometheus and Covenant black goo. Using the She-Wolf in Weyland-Yutani corporate symbols is a little too on-the-nose. The original Xenomorph being directly from a god of war, and Weyland-Yutani being the She-Wolf raising that Xenomorph (bioweapons research) into the "perfect weapon". And of course, it has to go wrong somehow, otherwise we wouldn't have a rehash of young people running scared aboard a defunct space station. I'll even go so far as to say that the station is orbiting Calpamus. As Renny Harlan said when he was trying to write a script treatment for Alien 3, "we seem to keep circling the same premise".
The very idea I laid out is the safe bet for the studio. Isolation was a huge hit and everybody including their grandma has been saying "huuuuu we so need a sequel movie to Isolation" so, be careful what you wish for because you just may get it. Studios are creatively bankrupt which is why they keep chasing whatever trend was around last week. Alien doesn't need a "franchise", it stands on its own two feet as a great horror/sci-fi thriller. And Prometheus would have been fine if the characters had more depth and if that story wasn't tied at all to Alien. Just.... make something different and don't tie it to something that's already great.

      @ENTERTAINtheDUDE  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

I gather there is a CGI Ash in this new film, which if true would make the salvage kids something akin to Nostromo: The New Generation (like S Club Juniors were to S Club 7) which is just the sort of yoof-reaching initiative that would thrill Old Man Scott seeking his franchise's rejuvenation whilst hidden away on his last legs at the back of the film.

Alien3 explored Christian themes and the fourth film the ship the auriga was named after a hellnestic story.
So the whole romulus thing does not worry so much if anything I liked the preview for Prometheus far more then what I am seeing thus far with romulus.

"... Ridley Scott returning to his baby (ALIEN)" Stopping that right there. No, ALIEN is NOT Ridley Scott's "Baby", he only directed the film, he didn't write it, he didn't title it, he DIDN'T create ALIEN.
The creator of ALIEN was the late Dan O'Bannon, and Scott worked with O'Bannon during the film. Since O'Bannon had problems with the producers because they tried to steal creator rights from him, they wouldn't talk to him. As not just the writer but also the Supervising Visual Consultant, every time there was something that needed change or redesign, O'Bannon would point it out to Scott, and the latter would talk to the producers as if he was the one that came up with the ideas.
O'Bannon brought HR Giger to the production, he introduced him to Scott, mainly cause Giger was O'Bannon's inspiration to write the movie which he was prohibited to direct. So yeah, ALIEN is Dan O'Bannon's Baby, not Scott's. Scott is basically the Uncle of ALIEN.

You are right in terms of the people involved and what they contributed. However, Ridley brought it to life which is a completely different thing entirely. I cannot believe that anyone else could have done what Ridley did and if that is true then it doesn't matter what the other wrote or titled the film imo. That being said, I do absolutely respect what the other created and I should have included their contributions into the vid but then it would have been a 40 min video haha.

@@ENTERTAINtheDUDE I get what you mean, yet my point is that Scott has taken all the credit, when in fact all of the stuff he did, was per the creator of ALIEN. Sure, he directed it, but with the vision and pointing of O'Bannon who was always on set in all of the departments. The producers put Scott on front to spite O'Bannon, and that is well documented, and Scott has ridden the train till this day as such. He is not a storyteller, said so by himself, and clearly shown on his last two films. This is why ALIEN was such a success, because he DIDN'T create it, he didn't write it, he directed it. And that is key, cause I think like you, if ROMULUS is going through Scott's vision and story, then we are in pure disappointment.
But there were recent news that bring hope, from ALIEN TV Series director Noah Hawley, based on Disney's orders and even Scott agreed. In essence, Scott's last two films are side stories, the Xenomorphs were not created by David nor anyone, they are an ancient natural species. And the Engineers and Space Jockeys are not related but are in the same universe. Look up Noah Hawley and his talk with Ridley Scott to avoid spamming your thread 🤣🤣🤣 and thanks for being so cool about this.

@@EternalRoman Oh yeah, I actually did a recent vid on the tv series and am much more hopeful about that. I understand you better now and I should really watch those old documentaries again. I agree that Ridley has made a bit of a throne for himself with Alien and it was the collaboration that made it great of course. What angers me about Ridley is the lack of credit he cannot give Cameron for Aliens. I know it was vastly different but that's how it should be. imitation is a form of flattery but innovation is better and that's What Aliens was for a sequel.
I sense that we are on the same page with Romulus but in my vid where I talk about the pros and cons of the Alien series I talk about how Noah Hawley request control of the story and that it had to be a prerequisite of doing it in the first place. Scott still lingers as a producer as you say but hopefully he'll keep his distance as we need a modern O'Bannon to inject some life back into the franchise would you agree? 😁

@@shawnbyers6291 I don't see how it is a bad idea, but of course you are entitled to your opinion. But in my opinion, i liked Prometheus a lot. It took the Alien universe and made it even larger. Ridley Scott didn't want to just make another Alien. He is right when he said the xenomorphs had a good run. 4 movies, plus the AVP movies, comics, etc. He wanted to do something original within the same specs and he pulled it off nicely. Yes, the ship and Weyland industries is a dead giveaway that it is an Alien movie. But at the same time Bladerunner is also in the same universe as Alien. Dan O'bannon and Ron Shusett created Alien but Ridley Scott made it even bigger. He took a small cramped story and turned it into a universe, and Prometheus definitely expanded the universe. I mean, there are whole comic books (Prometheus: fire and stone, Aliens: fire and stone, AVP: fire and stone, etc.). All of that from Ridley Scotts vision of Prometheus. He wanted to expand it even further in Alien: Covenant but people complained and complained about there not being and Xenomorphs, and i get it. But because of those complaints, he changed the movie and made it in the way the fans wanted. Yet they still complained. I have more of a problem with Alien Covenant than i do with Prometheus. If either movie was a bad idea, it is definitely Covenant. With Alien Romulus, it expands it even further because Fede Alvarez consulted with RS a lot, and there is a lot of his inspiration in the movie and i think we will get answers to some of the questions i know i had about certain things that happened in Prometheus and covenant. But like i said, you are entitled to your opinion. I'm a massive fan of the whole Alien mythos and i can't wait for more.

Resurrection wasn’t good, the Alien vs Predator films were terrible, people have been wanting a good Alien film since Aliens. Alien 3 is not what the majority of fans wanted, although I liked it. It’s just been a miss with everything Alien related beyond that. Alien fans have just been starved for a good claustrophobic sci-FI horror film with our favorite antagonistic creatures. They need to stop overthinking it, and go back to what worked.

I had a very hard time with that one. You are definitely right when it comes to the fans wishing for something good. I loved prometheus but it wasn't an Alien story. It has been about 35 years or so since we had a decent Alien movie? I am excited for Alien Romulus for one reason, and that is Ridley Scott saying "Its fucking great". It isn't often that Ridley gives a thumbs up to something, especially and Alien movie because he is the one that made the first ever Alien and he is the reason Alien fans exist. But i do hold a healthy amount of reserve. Sort of hope for the best prepare for the worst.

Look, ALIEN ROMULUS can be summed up in 1 one shot - chick w/ a pulse rifle. ALIEN 3 was killed by liberal freak Weaver, who as producer demanded the movie have no guns - ergo the prison crap, the running around a leadworks, the killing off of the last solder-survivor Hicks and Ridley. She suicided the franchise for that era. Ridley Scott later got drunk w/ the mythology as Lucas did w/ STAR WARS. That's when you fuck up a good simple formula by, I dunno, making the mysterious metaphysical FORCE into just microbiology. #1 the Engineers were nowhere near as large as the mysterious one in ALIEN. #2 it all sucked. Open an ALIEN movie w/ roided out E.T.s seeding Earth w/ all its life from their bodies? Sorry ppl, that's a whole other sci-fi movie.

I didn't mind the prisoners in A3 and I thought the actors were just utterly fantastic - but you have to bring the fear. Fincher's fish-eye "alien vision" camerawork, the twerky alien (CGI and puppet alike), and the single alien whipping through dozens of characters makes the characters and their showdown meaningless. You want to keep it to an ensemble cast with the clock running down fast.
