I've only been to prison once and don't plan to go back but if for whatever reason I ended back inside it would be a walk in the park as far as I'm concerned. But every night I was in prison from my first night to my last night I always had a good night sleep weather I was sharing a cell or had my own made no difference I always slept well but prison wasn't as bad as people make it out to be really don't get me wrong it's no holiday camp but you can find ways to be kept busy and the time will fly by as it did for me. And on my first day out I found a pub to go to and have a few beers and a bite to eat and relax in the beer garden was amazing

I was in Armley prison in the mid 90's on remand. It was only a couple of weeks, but I remember it was still slop out back then. I dont remember getting any food or phone money on induction, just some nasty tea from a tea urn. I had been in local police cells several times overnight before, but this was my first and luckily last experience of a real prison. I am not proud, but at least I know what it's actually like first hand. It was quite intimidating, but luckily I just kept my head down and got out after only a short time.

My first night I cried for about an hour. Just thinking of the shame I'd brought on my family and everyone else. My parents best friends were a couple of retired RAF veterans and worked in the prison service.
I remembered as a young child hearing their jail stories and being scared and shocked.
The next morning I woke and could here his booming voice down on the floor. I lent over from the 3rd floor gazing at him.....he looked up and the look on his face was priceless 😂
The next day I was shipped out to Cardiff.
An English boy in a Welsh jail...super

I remember my first night like it was yesterday ( actually November ' 81 ) . I heard the bell in the morning and got off the top bunk , thinking it was my normal bed at home . That was a jolt and a half . I thought I was going to work . The reality of my situation soon dawned on me .
If they had let me out right then and there, I'd have gone straight for the rest of my life ! Instead I became a career criminal for the next 20 years until I met a lady and completely changed my life around . You never forget your first prison number , D81115 .

'Room-service' doesn't sound all that swift Ricky. I'd be happy kipping under wriggly tin in a ditch, as long as I woke up to no bars and no people. FTT. The feeling of being trapped would take some sort of adapting to, for me. I've spent all my life living in the sticks. I'm glad we had no security cameras and digital tech when I was young and wild. I'da gone to jail 100%. I was as wild as a fitch in a barrel of blood. I always look forward to your videos. My sentence 2.5 years to serve 15 months(selling drugs) My first night was in HMP Altcourse Liverpool.
I’d been told out of all the jails in the country this was easy. I went onto Canal Brown which was an induction wing. I shared a cell with a full blown and too far gone heroin addict. Nice guy and it went smoothly but he was ticking..it was a weird relief to be in jail as at the time I was homeless, no job and living each day as it came. Jail gave me 3 meals a day and some stability to review my options and hopefully get my life back on track…since coming out I have a daughter, been fully employed since 2005 and living on a stunning island in Scotland..I just needed to be strong!!

Best thing to get in your head on your first night. You are not the toughest, you are not the most afraid, people don't want to listen to your bullshit, people are worse off than you so accept your consequences. Don't borrow, don't steal, don't let people take advantage(better to have a black eye than be a repeat victim) do your own time(this means other people's problems are their own, you have enough on your hands dealing with your own sentence) don't trust anyone you don't know well, trust everyone with the same kind of respect you'd treat a stranger at the bus stop or queue(chat shit to pass a bit of time but don't befriend cos a lot of people in there try to manipulate and will talk to you just to see if they can take from you) do something constructive(I read hundreds of books and done dozens of education courses but for some like this fella it'll be gym ) only get high if you can afford it(I was an addict and made and distilled hooch and so didn't get into debt but I did get a lot of added days for this, and I I saw many get slashed for debts that started at a fiver). Many cons are not "criminal types" like junkies or ganbangers, they're just people who lashed out drunk or snapped when their bird cheated, so it can happen to you

I wasn't into the Gym and spent my spare time reading, was offered a Job as Library Orderly a week before I was released from HMP Highpoint last February, but had a Job as Peer Mentor for a Computer Media Course in Education for about a year.before that offer. I recommend getting a Job or some Education Course to anyone thats sentenced, sitting in your cell all day playing XBox or Playstation is Pointless - watched that alot on TV with all the other repeats on the Freeview Channels!

From Scotland but spent a week in jail in upstate New York. ( Clinton jail ) . Overstayed my Visa by 18 years. Because I was an illegal immigrant your not entitled to legal representation. After a week I was bonded out $20,000. 6 months later in front of a judge.
It was a surreal experience being locked up and waking in the morning to the electrical buzz , that was the cell door opening.
Black and white striped uniform and orange slip on shoes. It sounds strange but a great experience . Take nothing for granted in life.
A very humbling experience . The border patrol and prison staff were very professional but the guys from ICE were total c***s.

I have never ever had a First Night in Prison as its explained in the leaflet you're handed at Reception, Healthcare take their time issuing you your Medicines even if you've brought it in with you labelled properly. If you haven't a clue you'll get stitched up by others first thing in the morning especially your Phone PIN as you're able to phone anyone within the first 48 hours before they process your allowed contacts. The First Night Wing Officers aren't much help either, more than likely they'll threaten you with a nicking for using the cell bell and hardly ever give you a chance to check you've got everything you need for your first night! More than likely the cell was stripped out by the wing cleaners before you get there and things are missing such as the pillow and matress, the kettle and TV Aerial. I don't know if Covid Restrictions are still in place but 3 years ago I started out in HMP Chelmsford and had to do 14 days isolation in a single cell - unfortunately I've got previous experience - everymeal was brought to the door and exercise was barely 30 minutes a day, no assocation and 5 minures for a shower in the morning.
Ricky Killeen, have you thought of doing a video preparing people for their first time inside? I've been lucky with people advicing me the first time I was locked up, I had some cash, sealed Tobacco - this was in 2003 - toiletries and a few reading books. Having some knowledge of what to expect goes along way, especially when most Officers tell you to fill in an Application when you ask them the most basic question!

I might be looking at prison soon for drug offences all riding on if I get a good jury or not but if found guilty can be looking at 5 years. The vids you do are helping me feel a bit better and to know what to expect as everyone has story's on how bad it is and what happens but they have never been to prison so have no idea.
One good advice i got from my brother is don't piss off the screws as someone did that in the prison my brother is at and the screw just went round saying that guy was a nonce to the other prisoners when he was not but they did not care and he got a good kicking and had to be moved to secure wing with the nonce's so don't piss them off or annoy them.

Listen to any advice you're given by people that have been there! Don't feel intimidated but don't give it the biggun, be polite but don't lick arse! I got 3 and a 1/2 for being Concerned in the Supply of Class A's - served half mostly in HMP Highpoint during Lockdown. Had only servered a few months here and there over the past 20 years so when I heard years in the sentence I was gutted! Hope the trial goes your way, I pleaded Guilty on Barristers advice as did my Co-Defendant, however she got 2 years suspended despite a long back catalogue of previous drug offences - I was pissed as I had none and didn't handle anything, was just driving a car where I was told!
You hopefully won't have to but find a screw you get on with and make friends with the Guys on the servery - always comes in handy when you get your appetite back after the nerves!

This is for anyone's opinion really.
My mate has went to prison for 10 year and his crime has affected alot of people. Should I just be normal and mates again when he's out? I mean he's classed as a criminal now and might be targeted but lied to me for 9/10 years also. Also the papers put his address out there. Will he have to move city or will people forget by then?
    Thanks in advance

It's was for fraud scamming people for 8-10 years that we know of. Made 2 million plus. Hes in the chronicle and echo without naming could probably find him. Him and his family basically had the houses the cars the money and told his mates it was bonuses from work and he was on a good salary. He's in Leeds which I've heard a Cat B?

    • @SpeccyMan
      @SpeccyMan ปีที่แล้ว +1

@@stevenwest0 It's the kind of question only you can really answer. Did his crimes directly affect you or your family or other friends? Once he leaves prison he will be an ex-criminal unless he offends again. An important distinction. Once a person leaves prison they have paid their debt to society. (This is despite what the gutter tabloid press would have you believe!) It is important to separate the crime from the person. Hate what they did but try to be forgiving of the person. We all make mistakes in life.

I've never been to prison and never even been arrested, but I'm appalled that the prison staff would turn the heating up to make the prisoners suffer. 😠
No matter what a person has done to end up in prison, they should be treated with humanity and have a level of human care to keep them physically and mentally healthy.
As a human society, we have a duty of care to people in prison, they are our fellow human beings.
I think you will have FAR LESS re-offending if you treat the people in prison as human beings, give them a reasonable level of care and guide them in the right direction to stop offending, and help them follow a productive, and crime free life.
That's better for the offenders, and better for society. IMHO
Yes! It costs money, but I'm happy to pay more tax if it means that people in prison are treated with at least a basic level of humanity and encouragement rather than demonising them.
