'Nobody works on a Friday'. These people who live in a bubble
This is the biggest probelm these lads on the inside are suggesting things and they are so out touch with the public. They don’t have to pay to get it in, the drink and food costs before you even have a bet. No interest in flat racing but Cheltenham are learning the hard way now 8 quid a Guinness and 12 quid a burger. People have had enough
Went to the Darby yesterday to get into the stand was£85.00 turned round jumped into my car and left
😂😂😂😂
#simpleguy
You should have brought a ladder with you.😂

Derby
The Derby would have been cheaper.
"Nobody works on Friday anymore"
I'm sure that will come as a huge surprise to supermarket workers, bar-workers, factory workers, betting shop staff etc. etc.
No one on display here had to pay in hence the reason pricing wasn’t mentioned.
If the Jockey Club treat people going racing like they do at Cheltenham, why be surprised at the lack of committment by the public to support an out of touch arrogant organisation like the Jockey Club?
Hear hear
Hear hear!
What you got understand about racing the jockey club are here to protect the people in racing and the jock is not the public
@@marcbressington8571 I understand the JC misguidedly think they are protecting the JC by aleinating the customers which provide the cash that keeps the JC solvent.
Cheltenham is a disaster robbing people over there was there once never again couldn't ever get a drink 🍻 was with my wife never again ffs 😮
Londoners may not work on Friday afternoons but the rest of the country do change it back to wednesdays
Nobody works on Friday according to nick. Most toffs and the silver spoon brigade maybe. Also shows you how these people are totally out of touch in Racing.
My first Derby was in 1969, then 1971 and 1974 ( both grandsand and "hill"), and every time it was chock a block. After a long break I went in 2022 and I was shocked! I thought I had come to an Antique road show extravaganza - spacious and sedate. Julian Wilson had warned that tampering would destroy the mystic surrounding the Derby. If they really want to get people to come to the middle of the course, "the Hill", they could start by doing something about the finishing line. There are so many structures there that you cant see a thing from the middle. Yes, they have big screens but who wants to travel x miles to watch the telly?
Yes. Totally agree about the finishing line. Get rid of all the advertising if you want people on the inside of the course. Also you need more free entertainment that will attract the masses. If any race meeting is crying out for a music/racing festival then its Derby day. A big wheel doesn't do it these days. When we used to go the inside of the course the place was full of chancers. Dodgy bookmakers offering stupid odds to an unsuspecting public. People have wised up but racing hasn't.
No one works on a Friday anymore ???
I remember when the Derby was run on a Wednesday..... Yes, I'm that old lol!
What's with that. Why are you guys not working on a Friday?
@@sionrouge16974 day weeks for a fair number
The answer is to put better races around the Derby. Saturday is full of handicap races. Let’s see a decent 2 year old race and another group race or two. The day lacks quality barring the Derby.
None of these posh racing people look at racing from the ordinary working man's perspective untill they do nothing will change
It looked a very ordinary day
Entry should be made cheaper like Europe its so expensive to buy drinks and food.
Use to get 60.000 plus ,large racing crowds are finished .
first wednesday in june that is what i remember and loved, then money took over i saw dancing brave, reference point, commander in chief and lamtarra win it. also snow bride, midaway lady and one or 2 other oaks i remember the ever ready derby and gold seal oaks. that was the best racing era.70s, 80s and some of the 90s best horses and trainer jockey combos. yes im in my mid 50s
Could say the same about a lot of sports, especially F1
@@DelKshares very true
Dancing Brave never won the Derby.
@@galdessa1 yeah I didn't mea. To put him in there just known as the dancing brave derby sharastani was the fortunate winner because of greville Starkey but a fantastic race, I was looking out for mashkour
@@BradyPires7Lammtarra won the first Saturday Derby.
In 1946 250 000 people attended the Derby
And you was one of them.
Ralph is without doubt one of the best guests on this show
Don’t work on Fridays! Outside of London most of us do…
27 thousand for the biggest race of the year on the flat....................Not good is it.
I live ten minutes walk from the racecourse, I took the dog for an early walk, 0610 on Derby day, I spoke to six keen racegoers whom parked on tattenham corner.....
They were awaiting the arrival of hi viz wearing geezer whom was gonna demand 30 quid for the privilege of parking...
The jockey club is ONLY interested in paying punters, NOT in the people whom used to arrive on the infield in their thousands
Last time I was at the English Derby, Shergar was romping home under Walter Swinburn.
@Boxersrealty
You were lucky, Shergar was a very good Derby winner.
White birch is a very classy horse. Hes improved past auguste rodin!
I don't know about nobody working on a Friday but plenty of people do finish early on a Friday. Pretty much much everyone works on Wednesday though so moving back to that would be a terrible idea
In 2019 71,500 people went to the Cheltenham Gold Cup - if only went 25,000 people went to the Derby surely that indicates that NH racing is preferred to Flat Racing?
Those on the hill are not paying customers.
@@galdessa1 If you put on a big event and no one turns up - it looks a failure. It does not matter if people on the hill pay nothing - if there are many non paying people there it makes the event looks like it's a place people want to be.
I only got there before the Derby 😮
Don’t these people realise that Augusta Rodin is just an ordinary Derby winner
I hope for your sake Martin Lewis hasn't seen your comment about Auguste Rodin?
You're likely to get an ear bashing.😂
I never knew there was such a thing as an “ ordinary Derby winner” , every horse that wins the derby is extraordinary, it’s never a fluke .
6 group one wins and apparently an ‘ordinary’ horse 😂😂😂😂😂
Folk on this page, seriously should be banned!!!
#clueless
Just put some pastries on the table next year while doing the draw.
The germans obviously don't know the back end of a greyhound from the front end if they bring in this rule!!
“Nobody in this country works on a Friday anymore” Christ, how out of touch can you be?
more stammering and pauses than a norman collier gig...or maybe that was my busted broadband
Unless you live local an evening is a no go it's in the middle of knowhere
Everyone went because the cost of living was better plus it was a lot cheaper back in the day.
The hill may be free you try getting to it
Epsom racecourse has a capacity of 150 000
... and on his own number 1 city of troy!
Bingo!! 😂😂😂😂😂
The draw was really embarrassing
Yeah cringeworthy
Gotta love the morrison own Brand cup cakes 😂
Once again nick luck supports the bookmakers and will never say anything against them. Untill these racing presenters distance themselves from bookmakers these shows are pointless
Should never of sold the Tote. Let bookies stick to other sports and one armed bandits.
@@galdessa1 totally agree,
They are all paid bookies men !!
The overround on the races was shocking. For some it was 150%, average seemed to be about 133% and the Derby itself was 117%.
What is the cost of tickets to the Derby, these days? Maybe that is a contributing factor of low attendance. Many people now have larger T.Vs, where the entire family can watch the Derby together. Years ago, a large color TV was a luxury. Now these TVs have become very affordable.
The top owners in this country are not in racing for the prize money they have plenty of money the want the glory. Prize money is a red herring
Agree 100%
It is too high if anything. Ralf Beckett talks utter shite on an industrial scale.
Ralph, has been kind with his time again. Amazing really as he has a stable stacked with ability.
Up 10% for the Derby its fairly simple
Money needs to be raised like in France it's raised by the tote and no bookmakers.
Bookmakers don't put anything back into racing.
Tradition is Tradition, why are you always picking points of negative, talk about how great the event was instead of picking holes, time's are always progressing and so it doesn't matter which day you'll hold the Derby it will have to compete against other sports 😮
Move the Derby and Oaks to Royal Ascot and send the Ribblesdale, King Edward and Hampton Court to Epsom
The Derby is connected to Epsom.
Ascot is not as a demanding track as Epsom so that just sounds dumb
Why?
What a stupid suggestion ,the track at Epsom is unique with its undulations and is a harder test for a racehorse than Ascot therefore it should never be moved away from Epsom.
Was the draw good, bloody farsical dull event.
19:18 This isn’t true. A yearling is like a 6 yr old child, a 2yr old is like a young teenager and a 3yr old is the equivalent to a young adult who has a bit more growing to do, hence the lbs given when racing 4yr olds. I see no problem in training or even racing 2yr olds but we must not over exert them and that is the problem, not avoiding any training or racing of them as the German govt is unwisely pushing as a “solution”. So the overall position is valid but those equivalents are incorrect.
They are talking about competition horses like show jumping. thats why racehorses have a 2 year thinking period.
Do they really think the public are interested in the draw if they do they're idiots
Poor Crowd Poor Derby
As an American the reason why the interest in racing is fading is because your population is too small and Your marketing is bad. Lack of diversity will also kill racing in the UK. here in the states racing can be found if you want it but we also have 330 million people and a huge diversity in racing.
That's nonsense. Our population is increasing, whilst the Derby crowd is reducing.
White Birch is a superstar, why must you assume O’Brien has the best horse and it underperformed. White birch will win until it races a better horse -if there is one?
Were you asleep all of last season pal?
@@Martin.Lewis.. Newmarket, Ascot ?

I’m sick of educating you on these pages.

@@Martin.Lewis.. So these races are deleted from your memory. and you will never be able to educate me on horse race betting..
I don’t think people under 40 understand flat racing. I try explaining to my mates who love NH about you see the generations come through over the years and half way through season 3 year olds meet older horses.
Fifthy euros to go into the Curragh on derby day stopped going a long time ago then you have train 🚂 grub drinks and a bet wouldn't see much change out of a monkey five hundred quid go for pints now and have a bet crazy its gone they can have it 😮
If they get better when there older
That then makes the Germans Wright
Nobody works on a Friday???..wat planet are these dopes living on??…no wonder racing in England is crumbling if this is the mindset … 🙈🙈
the biggest flat race wasnt yesterday was it some said it was it was a poor derby
Nationalise the betting industry and use the billions in revenue to fund the racing industry and subsidize the horse breeding to compete with the Irish , a whole regeneration of the industry supporting thousands of jobs could be created .
Racing should be free admission simple as ? Enough is spent by people on the day anyway .
Tracks here in the states stopped charging in the early 90s.
@sionrouge1697 Yeah, I know . Racecards 4 dollars, that's it free parking too .

People work on Friday but not on Saturday that's why you plonkers
He’s not in this but commentator Mike Catermole really fancies himself. I had the unfortunate displeasure of being in his presence a few years ago during a Breeders Cup meeting with Ladbrokes and he seemed to think he was the only person with the right to speak. Zoe Bird was there too and had a similar chip on her shoulder.
That is not my experience. I have met him several times and have found him very personable and not in the least egoistical.
Met him at Henrietta Knights a while back he sat on the grass talking to myself and friend and was a gentleman. Like him alot

Going horse-racing is laughably expensive. All of these coconuts with their great ideas get in for nothing and are on hospitality. Its desperate value
toffs really so out of touch .But do they really care ?
The derby is shit on Saturday put it back on Wednesday and stop bookmakers robbing punters if they win like betfred Ladbroke hills corals
