It's a masterpiece. I still have nightmares from time to time featuring me running through a derilict, often pitch dark space station with the constant threat of being annihilated like an insect by some robot or alien right around the corner. 10/10, would recommend. This game and Amnesia have at least one thing in common. They let your imagination run wild and really immerse you.
This game was/is superb but I couldn't get past the Alien about half way through the game. I did try it in VR once and after the alien chased me down a corridor, into a medical area, and dragged me out from under a table. I was like "nope! that's it! I'm done!" My blood pressure must have been off the charts.
VR is damn good, still some of the absolute best gaming experiences I've ever had have been in VR, playing Alien Isolation, HL Alyx and Project Cars in VR with steering wheel setup is like nothing I've ever played.
i made it to the alien lair and saw face huggers drop from a hole in the wall into the water and i was like Im not going in there never played it again
It's crazy how good this game looks for something that came out in 2014. The human character models and animations were always a bit crap, but everything else still holds up. There's a really good TAA mod on PC as well that completely clears up the aliasing shimmer along the edges of objects too, if that bothers you.
Agreed. I don't think it gets enough love. I remember when it first released, it got a bit of criticism for certain in-game aspects, but if it was to be released today I think it would be up for game of the year.
There's actually many instances where running is not only safe, but actually preferable. Just gotta keep a bead on the alien's approximate distance so he doesn't hear you. The more ground you can cover in the least time, the more likely you are to keep the alien one step behind your movements. It's paradoxical, but going too slow and steady actually extends the time spent in close proximity to the alien, which in turn gives more opportunities for the alien to cut off your movement and thus narrow down your position even more. @@theyfearme1379I laughed so hard at your comment but then I realized you meant to type 'game' instead of an archaic term for women's legs. I thought you meant the xenomorph had amazing legs.

"Locker paralysis" is 90% of this game's difficulty curve lol. You basically wanna always keep walking, and only stop when the alien actually drops down someplace where it might see you. And even when you do stop, entering lockers should be last ditch. It's better to just crouch behind tables and stuff, that way you can stay mobile and reactive. When you're in the locker you're blind and immobile, a sitting duck.
That's exactly how I played it the first time - I never dared run and only used the motion tracker a handful of times. I only hid in a locker once or maybe twice, and I'll never forget that one time I went into a maintenance crawlspace only for the Xeno to heard me.... Probably didn't help that my first run was on hard mode....
@@goodlookinouthomie1757 From what i remember and heard, it will find you when it saw you walk/run into a dead end room and there is nothing but a locker, if you arent lucky and a poor soul nearby makes a noise. Otherwise it realy depends, many people use the motion tracker in the locker which the Alien can hear and people dont know that, so it can find you that way if it is close by. And the Alien is hard searching an area harder when it heard or saw you there several times. So it get way more likely it will check out lockers. If you just enter a new area hear the alien coming and sneak into a locker there is 0 chance the alien just walks up to the locker and find you there. At least from my Playthrough on the second hardest mode.
@@goodlookinouthomie1757 I think TH-camr SlippySlides did a video on this a while ago. If I remember correctly the game is actually pretty sophisticated: it uses a 2 separate A.I models. One for the Xeno and a 'Director AI' that sort of curates the player's experience for them. For example, if you played like me and only ever walked and never used the motion tracker, this would annoy The Director and it would eventually send the Xeno after you, to stop the game being boring. Conversely, if you blundered about everywhere shooting the androids with the pistol, making tons of noise, causing the Xeno to always find you, The Director would either make the Xeno a bit deaf and blind for a while, or send it on a short holiday to a different spire in Sevastopol. So it's possible The Director is actually sending the Xeno after Mack in order to try to move him on from this point in the game, rather than just hanging out in a locker forever.... Mac... I think it can hear your tracker when you're in the locker. There hasn't been a better survival horror game released in the intervening decade either (honorable mention to the RE remakes, though.) The atmosphere and tension in A:I is unsurpassed. Thank God we're finally getting a sequel.
@@goodlookinouthomie1757 You just reminded me of my first "horror" game. It was Jurassic Park for the SNES. These indoor levels in first person combined with the OST made me shit my pants back then.
I've been stuck in a locker in Outlast for years. I never finished Alien: Isolation either... Time to grow a pair and play them again. LOL. Cheers Mack.
The AI in this game was spot on, it learns from your patterns and actions. It learns where you like to hide and uses it against you. If you hide in the same place it will get you
This reminded me of Mesh playing Doom 3 back in the day. You burst into the room and scared him to death. I didn't even realize that was you until years later when I heard your voice again on WAB.... Time really does fly
Your last statement had me cracking up! Yeah if you wanna find me, I'm in another area of the station hiding in another locker. Been there for years too.
Mack I remember that you criticized Alien Isolation when it first released, but I am happy to see it grew up on you. It is really one of the best games of the last decade. Immersion, graphics and attention to detail is phenomenal. For example, if you keep the scanner on while in the locker, alien could hear the beeps. Also, with a keypress you can switch the depth of field focus from the scanner to your surroundings and vice-versa, useful when exploring and keeping the scanner at hand.
Somehow I knew this review was going to be Alien: Isolation. As soon as you said 2014 I immediately thought of this. This is an incredible experience and one of my all time favourites games. I am quite fortunate to have a really good surround sound system. And playing this game on it is next level. Speaking of depth of field, you can push a button that makes the sensor go blurry and the background sharpens.
Hiding in the locker makes the Alien spawn or come around you to check the locker you're hiding in to begin with. And that tracker you're using will grab attention of the Alien & sometimes instantly alerts Alien to your presence lol. The game is clever.
MACK. I just bought the game last night after watching Alien Romulus and rewatching the old Alien movies. Alien and Aliens are my favorite in the franchise. Romulus was cool in 3D. But it’s so strange I see this video on your channel right after my Alien binge 😂😂😂😂
Hilarious and terrifyingly at the same time... you had me in stitches Mac! I'm a 64 year old gamer.. always watch your videos.. and no they don't make them like they used to.. I must admit I can't play this type of game.. I would never come out of that locker! Great atmospheric game.
Its was this game that i saw my father truly scared, no other did it like this. He played just like you, hiding for years in a locker. Brother and I had to motivate him to progress but he beat it.🎉
I was 18 when i first started watching you. Im 30 now. time just flies. And still mountains of shit being produced 10 fold. Makes 2013 look amazing for games.
LMAO Honestly this video is exactly what I did. Uninstalled it after being stuck in the locker for 15mins and thought fuck that. If any of my family ever walked in the room while I was playing this I would have had a heart attack. Spot on Mac.
It doesn't only look decent, it look as good as a game needs to look imho.. There's a certain art style, crispness to it, the atmosphere is oozing out of every object you can see and it's just bloody marvelous.
Using the Tracker is a catch 22 situation. Tip: It actually attracts the Alien. You're better off using it sparingly or not at all and sneaking around listening out for the Alien. The movement in the vents are a big give away.
i played through it this year after buying it 6 year ago and dropping it after mission 3. ended up doing 2 playthroughs back to back and getting all the achievements. fantastic game, makes the first alien even better because of how faithful they are to its world and enviorments.
I have never played this game... but this few minutes in the locker with the alien stomping around in the vents was stressing me out. I am not a fan of horror games but man... just a clip got me nervous, thats a solid game.
its nuts that the graphics looked this way for 2014, probably the only game where i don't mind DoF on. they absolutely nailed the aesthetic and design in every aspect. it is total cassette futurism. they certainly dont make them like this anymore

There hasn't been a better survival horror game released in the intervening decade either (honorable mention to the RE remakes, though.) The atmosphere and tension in A:I is unsurpassed. Thank God we're finally getting a sequel.
I really liked the first RE re-make, multiple playthroughs worth, loved the original one, I still get jump scares while knowing when its coming.
It can
amnesia the bunker
Haha yeah I'm having a Jurassic park moment here yelling "Turn the tracker off...!".
@@goodlookinouthomie1757 You just reminded me of my first "horror" game.
It was Jurassic Park for the SNES.
These indoor levels in first person combined with the OST made me shit my pants back then.
Ive played this game through twice and plan to again soon. A true classic
Thank god we're actually getting a sequel to Alien Isolation!
mother vr mod takes this game to a new level
I've been stuck in a locker in Outlast for years. I never finished Alien: Isolation either... Time to grow a pair and play them again. LOL. Cheers Mack.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The AI in this game was spot on, it learns from your patterns and actions. It learns where you like to hide and uses it against you. If you hide in the same place it will get you
lol I'm in there with ya buddy. This game is AAA terrifying
This reminded me of Mesh playing Doom 3 back in the day. You burst into the room and scared him to death.
I didn't even realize that was you until years later when I heard your voice again on WAB.... Time really does fly
reminds me of your Outlast videos Mack. that was another Mackscorner classic.
Your last statement had me cracking up! Yeah if you wanna find me, I'm in another area of the station hiding in another locker. Been there for years too.
The Xeno can hear the beeps of the tracker; so watching people have it out while it's nearby always makes me so nervous, lol!
MAC…I’ve got tears in my eyes from the laughter and nostalgic commentary. I needed this!!!
The game is clever.
it does seem to make a lot of noise going into the locker
7 minutes of this guy stuck in a locker. Best gameplay of the year. I love your videos... keep it up!
Doh. What is wrong with me, I was holding my breath when the alien was in front of the locker.
Watching mack playing scary games is the best entertainment in the internet
Its was this game that i saw my father truly scared, no other did it like this. He played just like you, hiding for years in a locker. Brother and I had to motivate him to progress but he beat it.🎉
The awesome news is that AI2 is in development now. Can't wait, hopefully it is just as epic!
I was 18 when i first started watching you. Im 30 now. time just flies. And still mountains of shit being produced 10 fold. Makes 2013 look amazing for games.
Best video of the year 😂
Don't ring the bell Mack! He'll hear!
One of my favorites. Sheer terror. Nobody can hear you scream in space.
LMAO Honestly this video is exactly what I did. Uninstalled it after being stuck in the locker for 15mins and thought fuck that. If any of my family ever walked in the room while I was playing this I would have had a heart attack. Spot on Mac.
This game is my favorite of all time! Never have I been on edge the whole time in the history of me playing video games in my life.
The worst bit for me was getting choked by a working Joe in VR. Actual goosebumps.
“It’s been ten years and I’m still in the locker”. Lol I’m dying
It doesn't only look decent, it look as good as a game needs to look imho.. There's a certain art style, crispness to it, the atmosphere is oozing out of every object you can see and it's just bloody marvelous.
10 years from today, Mack will still be in the locker, and still praising this masterpiece.
Using the Tracker is a catch 22 situation. Tip: It actually attracts the Alien. You're better off using it sparingly or not at all and sneaking around listening out for the Alien. The movement in the vents are a big give away.
I have this fear issue on that subnautica game. Could never finish that.
Edit: NEVER RUN! He always comes when you run.
"Get to de CHOPPA!"
(Get the reference?)
i played through it this year after buying it 6 year ago and dropping it after mission 3. ended up doing 2 playthroughs back to back and getting all the achievements. fantastic game, makes the first alien even better because of how faithful they are to its world and enviorments.
To think IGN called this game mediocre.
I've always judged their reviews through a thick grain of salt, paid shills.
@@OneofInfinity. Yeh I usually watched gamespot for reviews until all the old staff left then moved on to TH-cam, IGN was just good for gaming news.
Yes Mack, they do still make them like this. Try "Still Wakes the Deep", it's on Game Pass.
So happy that the success of Alien Romulus meant that Creative Assembly gets to go back to this and finally give us the promised sequel.
I have never played this game... but this few minutes in the locker with the alien stomping around in the vents was stressing me out.
I am not a fan of horror games but man... just a clip got me nervous, thats a solid game.
Hahah yeah they don't make them like they used to. Damn woke games nowadays.. what? The protagonist is a strong independent woman?? Boycott!!!
to be fair in Alien: Isolation it seems you are literally playing through the eyes and in the body of a strong independent woman
Was HOPING the Alien would snatch you out at the last moment 😂 This video had me at the edge of my seat more than Silent Hill 2
We're dealing with an Alien invasion in the UK now.
its nuts that the graphics looked this way for 2014, probably the only game where i don't mind DoF on.
they absolutely nailed the aesthetic and design in every aspect. it is total cassette futurism. they certainly dont make them like this anymore
What I have learned from this video: Alien: Isolation is the best locker hiding simulation ever. Full stop. That..... and I have had this in my library for years, and still haven't played it because of the anxiety. :P
This game in VR is in my top 10 gaming experiences in my 30 plus years of gaming. Really hope they dont mess up the sequel.
I feel ya Mac. I got this game years ago, so excited to be playing it. Then I learned I'm a scared little girl and haven't played it since.
I love the cat n mouse aspect of isolation
always love your vids, great seeing a straight talking common sense geezer... and from the north east as well! top man, I'm in the toon on the drink soon, live just down the road
Hahaha oh man... That was one of the very few times a game nailed the movie experience
