TIP TUESDAY- How do you handle frizzy, fraying ends on a Heat Friendly Wig? Watch me fix Lady Latte

  • HELP!! I am doing research on some of my videos to find out how people found it so I can help other wig sisters find it, too by using the best keywords and title. Please share in the comments what you searched that brought this video up for you. Thank you for helping me AND your wig sisters!
    About 18 months ago I did a series of videos on Lady Latte which I will link below in case you are interested. She was my first Heat Friendly/Heat Defiant/HD wig and I was very fearful of HD wigs and the challenges they can post. I am no longer afraid of HD wigs in straight bobs. They are VERY EASY TO TAKE CARE OF with a little heat as I show here. Steam works GREAT if the fraying/frizzing is more extreme than this which I will show someday :).
    Below are the tools I use in this video. They are Amazon Associate links, I may make a small commission if you purchase from these links (thanks for supporting my channel!):
    Hot Air Brush: amzn.to/2BBqftl
    Curling iron brush: amzn.to/3vUnmuX
    Jon Renau Heat Treat Thermal Spray: amzn.to/3sgdiKN (it comes in a black bottle now)- I know this is spendy, but it lasts FOREVER! I've had mine for 2 years.

    This was great. Definitely could see ends/sides looking better as you went along. It's these little tweaks that can make a big difference in feel & appearance of our pieces that are very helpful, and possibly just what it takes to give a sister the courage to try it on their own. Well done. 🤗❤

    Thank you Denise!! I love this! Perfect amount of time that I could sneak it in on my break. I'm going to try this when I get home on one of my Belle Tress wigs. I was always using a flat iron and wonder of that was the wrong heat tool. I was using heat protectant but the results didn't seem to last. I felt like I needed to apply heat every single day. I will find out.

      Hopefully that is not the case, but I bet the older the piece gets the more often this will be needed.... as long as it can bring back the softness in the fibers then I am ok with taking a few minutes with a hot air brush.

    Thank you Denise for this lesson and what product to use. I finally purchased a R Welch HF in the Hazelnut color at a wig salon. For my first wig, it was necessary to get the style, fit and color right without making a mistake. Finding a decent wig salon is not easy. Now if you can remind us your circumference and how the fit of the wig you are showing us fits (snug, large, roomy) it would help us large cap wearers to line up a new wig to try with the odds in our favor. You are such a nice person who I like, trust and follow 😇.

      Hi! Congrats on your first purchase. BelleTress wigs in general run big. I've experienced a few exceptions which happens with all manufacturers. This one fits me VERY big. My Circumference is 22" but I always say that wig fit depends on ALL your measurements, not just Circumference. I include ALL my measurements in the description of every review. This brand is known for being friendly to those with large measurements. Hope you find a great 2nd piece!!

    Helpful series - thank you, lovely lady! I haven’t tried a heat-friendly topper yet, and I might not because I hear both pros and cons about them.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Let me just say a word about Heat Friendly toppers.... my first piece was a Belle Tress Top Wave topper. I loved it for about 4 wears, and then it started to get clumpy. I did not know at the time that heat friendly fibers were different so I was not prepared for that. In addition, I LOVED the waves on that one, but as soon as I took heat to them they straightened out, and I could never get the curl back the same. IN ADDITION, after those 4 wears I started having trouble blending my bio hair in with the wig fibers, the texture between the two was just too different. NOW- this is just one person's experience and I know a lot of people have great success with BT toppers, but I share this just so you can be prepared if you ever get one. It didn't work well for me at all.

    This video came at just the right time, Denise! I am wearing Raquel Welch InCharge and I’m just not enjoying her. She’s so difficult to manage day to day. So many fly always, the sweep across bangs are always in my face - I’d love to cut them! Whenever I look down then look up, the entire front portion of hair slides into my face. I try not to use product in my wigs, but this one needs it. I use a bit of Jon Renau’s Piece it out to control the fly always and to hold the style in place, but it only lasts about an hour. I worry about it’s build up over time. Then I sometimes use water based hairspray on the sides, but again, don’t like to. These side swept bangs can look beautiful but they just look awful within an hour bc they move. I feel vain constantly looking at myself. Any suggestions! I don’t think I’ll ever buy another RW wig if this is how their fibers are.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I really think you will need to use steam to completely redirect those fibers up and away from the face. I do show that in a few older videos of mine (Jon Renau Kristi project and my Jon Renau Scarlett review at the very end).... I think it is time I do a more updated video on this, though. Good luck... steam will work, the question is, do you like her enough otherwise to go through that?

  • @cassiebrown9786
    @cassiebrown9786 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great tip. I like the wig you're wearing. Denise, how many times can you treat a heat friendly hair piece? Do the heat friendly type wigs/toppers wear out faster? Have a good day 😊.

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That is a great question, I imagine it will depend on what kind of heat you are taking to it and the fibers the manufacturer used. I think general wisdom is that heat friendly pieces do not last as long as regular synthetic, but I have heard lots of Whig sisters say they love their heat friendly wigs and find that they last longer. So many variables.

    Love this. Just bought about 26 Belletress styles 🙈 I couldn’t help myself bc I’d never seen them until I was introduced to them and wigstudio1 from Taz. Wow, loving the brand, styles, colors & company!!
    This is so useful. I’ve been hesitant to wear them until I really felt ready to manage these gorgeous pieces.
    I have been wearing Peppermint in Butterbeer Blonde, my fav color, & she’s needing some TLC on the ends. But I’ve worn her daily for over 5 weeks, so can’t complain.
    Do you use bottled water or does that make any difference…just curious. Also, in my JR steamer, should I be using distilled water? All help is very much appreciated.
    I do have all of the products and tools but now I know how to use them together. Big thank you!!

    • @heywigsister
      @heywigsister  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! It is so awesome you've found some styles you love! WOO HOO!! I actually use distilled water in both my water bottle AND my JR Steamer. The reason I use it in my sprayer is because I noticed that tap water starts to smell funny after sitting in the bottle for awhile. That doesn't happen with distilled. I don't think the tap will hurt the wig, it really is just because of that smell. I don't think it is our water, either, because it did that when we lived in our old house in the city, and it did it again in our new house with well water.

      You can't, not if you take heat to it. This is why I prefer straight wigs if I am going to get a heat friendly wig, otherwise you have to try to put the curl back in and it is unlikely you will ever achieve the exact same look.
