My Dad owned a b5 and that made me fall in love with cars
Finding one that’s stage 1 or 1+ is good at least. Stage 2 and 3 and you’re at the mercy of the previous builder. Almost all will need some work though because they’re older/complicated vehicles.
I got mine not too long ago basically bone stock. All it had was an intake and new breather hoses. It took me about 7-8 months of searching. Definitely not the cleanest car out there but it was from a mild state that didn't have winter's so I got a steal.

Everyone jumps to the S4’s or RS4’s if you have the budget, but don’t sleep on the 1.8T/2.0T A4’s. They have plenty of aftermarket support, and while not being the S/RS models, they aren’t bad for their respective eras with simple bolt ons and tunes.
My stage 2 b7 a4 beats stock wrx's still on the ej platform
All the B5s are dope. I had 2.8. Sold it, missed it and got an S4. The 1.8T is super capable and easier to work on. You can get really good numbers out of it. 2.8 v6 is probs the hardest to get more power out of.
I had a b6 s4 (turbo V8) but my parents made me sell it and I drive a focus SE now lol.

My parents have owned a b5 s4 for over 15 years and it has never left anyone on the road and it has been modded quite a lot and now I am the one mostly driving it and oh boy does it feel awesome it is so fucking epic on snow and on road or anywhere else.

The infiniti g35x isn't a bad pick either, you can get them dirt cheap and they're really solid with the vq35, if you don't mind having an auto, because they didn't offer a manual with the awd, I own one and I've been daily driving it for 2 years and it's never let me down
The awd system sucks, youd get stuck in 2 inches if snow

@@thereswombats9995 shouldn’t be a worry when you choose an awd system, I live in upstate New York where you can get hit with 5+ inches of snow in a few hours so infinities awd system is pretty flawed for people who want a gear round daily up here. I’m sure it’s fine for southern winters
@@patrickmaloney4787 I'm in Maryland so the winters can be hit or miss, sometimes we get 2 feet of snow sometimes we get 2 inches
Solid list overall. Among my friend group, I think I've been in every one of these cars (some of multiple examples) over the years. Maybe not sat in the Taurus SHO but my friend did own one for a brief time, he's a reseller/owns a shop so there's a rotating roster of cool stuff.
Couple of my little nitpicks would be elaborating on the wrx/bugeye entry to include other Subaru models like the turbo Legacy/Forester/Bajas of the later 00s and also (I'm biased since I own one) to include the G35x/G37x. The Attesa awd system is no joke. It's pretty much a less performance oriented and electronic version of the r32 GTR's system. There's also a ton of them out there for the taking.
Also, the Volvo S40 T5 is closely related to the Mazda Speed6 system, but again not as performance oriented as the S60 R was. Hell, any Volvo T5/T6 awd is a solid choice if one can't find an R model like an S60 R or V70 R, if you're into that kinda thing.

They only made them for 2 years and the red mica one is apparently a rare color on them. I love my speed 6. Its so much fun

I have a 2011 B8 S4 and I love it glad to see one of the generations on the list!
I own one aswell! Hard to beat these cars with what you get. Just an ecu tune puts you around 450hp, they’re reliable when maintained, don’t really have many flaws as long as you stay on top of things

What you didn’t mention on the Mazda speed 6 is that the Mazda CX-7 had the same engine with a smaller turbo. Still pretty damn quick all the way through the rpm range. And they’re like 5 grand in good shape

I have a 2013 Taurus Interceptor with the 3.7 and AWD, even the charger PPVs have HEMIS and AWD and can be found for dirt cheap at auction and mechanically have been taken care since it’s a govt vehicle

Any b5 is a good choice. The a4 1.8t or even the 2.8 30v has massive mod potential and people don't crave after them as much as the s4. You can turbo a 30v to perform better than the 2.7t and the 1.8t has the most aftermarket support of any euro engine out there. The 2.8 12v is harder to find parts for and has no support here in the states cause it quickly got replaced by the 30v but it's still fun to drive. And absolutely bulletproof. I've had 2 and my first was still running great at almost 500,000 miles
Another option is converting a fwd car that came with awd option as well
U guys should have added the dodge magnum rt awd. I personally own one and they are a TON of fun. They are getting super rare to see but literally the most sleeper wagon ever. And it's comfy.

Gotta start adding this to some of the videos- 4th Gen Acura TL had an AWD option, the SH-AWD with a na 3.7 pushing about 300hp and 275 tq, after market is small but these are quick and the motor is solid, very comfortable and most importantly offered in a six speed manual but good luck finding them

The price for the B5 S4's are raising its insane. In Germany (my region), they are selling you a Station Wagon for 7k€ which needs to be fixed a bit to drive it legely. Sedan's starts with 15k€. The price is realy Skyrocketing ! But the feels of driving one is addicting (to me)
1.8T's are underated.
MPS6 all day (but change every mount, and yank out that stock turbo)
Bit sad the G35/37 didn't make the cut as they have similar capabilities of the Bimmer but far fewer problems, but the B5 S4 made the list so

08 r32s don't like hot climate, will get vapor lock type symptoms from fuel line getting too hot without added insulation.

I need to get my hands on a Taurus SHO or that beautiful sounding Volvo. They're proper cruisers with sleek looks while being moderately aggressive.
Also great to see the Speed6 getting some love ♥ unfortunately they rust away here up north. Many owners here store them away in winter, so they never get to be used to their full potential.
From what I found when I did some digging the Taurus isn't worth it. Not really reliable, a bit pricey to deal with, and terrible on gas.
Taurus sho is where it's at. I have a 2014. I destroy mustangs, scatpacks, most cars that aren't supercars. Bssic bolt ons and 450whp and 470 tg.

Mazdaspeed 6 really is unknown to a lot of people. I have the regular Mazda 6 5 speed, which apparently is also rare, but after looking up mods that’s how I found out about the speed 6.
I liked to describe it as Mazda’s rendition of a Evo/WRX. Pretty much the Sega Dreamcast of the AWDs haha.

I have an E92 335 xDrive in manual with M sport package and lemme tell you she's a masterpiece. Get you some tools and some mechanical proficiency and this bad boy will last you till the end of days. If it's a daily I would highly suggest not going crazy with power. 400 is plenty for a car you drive every day in my opinion but fuck it man your life your rules all I know is this car is definitely gonna be at the top of my list for years to come

C6 generation Audi A6, im telling you. Under 100k miles for under 10 grand, but its got the supercharged V6 out of the S4. Had some problems, but most get addressed before 100k, and I've known people to push them into the 200s
I literally just bought a s60r today
For europeans: Get a mk1 Skoda Octavia 4x4 1.8T. Manual only, 150hp and AWD with the stupidly easy to tune 1.8T. The interior is actually pretty good as well, and you can replace the seats with mk4 golf recaro seats for more comfort. Also dirt cheap at around 2000€
The problem with the WRX is that with how much the insurance payments are you might as well buy a new car in Michigan. Not ready to drop $400+ a month on insurance for a used WRX or STI here in Michigan

My brother has turned me onto b5s4s in the fact that it seems like it doesn’t take much to make a lot of power out of them for just some bolt on mods but the reliability just shoots downward 😂 my wrx wasn’t even a maintenance hog like the b5. Love the list here
