My eyes popped when I first saw this quilt top; it's so colorful. It must have come out of your magic closet. You are so calm when working on seams that require dots. ;)
I love me some Orange! Funny how size can change a block. Thanks for this, showing how to construct this type of design. It’s an “oh yes moment”..I remember how to do this😂(KH)
Hi Beth! When I first saw this, I thought it was the "Xs & Os" assembly. With your big pieces & marking the way you did, makes this so doable!!! And I love the pink you were using 😊😊
Hi Beth, pretty quilt. I like how this block looks. A single block could be used for a throw pillow top or a oversized placemat or even the center of a round table cloth or topper.❤
I live in Kansas. 😊 I finished a quilt this year that was created with quilt blocks related to Kansas. Of course, Kansas Dugout was one of them. My instructions directed me to use 4 - 6.5" squares, snowball 2 corners, then join the 4 pieces to create my Kansas dugout blocks. Of course, it's only another variation of what you demonstrate. I'm sure that many Kansas pioneer women included this block in their quilts.
I was born in Lyons, Ks. In Meade, there were dugout in the day. My great-great grandpa helped dig a hand dugout well in the town. There was a tornado there some years ago and completely destroyed the town. The hand dugout well is still there though! Beth thank you for sharing this! One of my next quilts is going to be this Kansas dugout quilt!! Thanks!!
I love this vintage quilt. It looks like the maker used whatever leftover pieces she had, probably from making clothing for her family. Thanks for sharing.
Ah, this is more my style. I always wanted to do the Granny's garden paper piecing also, but I thought it would be too tedious. I think for me, this looks a lot quicker, even with the Y seams.😊
So pretty! I’m doing 2” hexagon EPP quilts. I use clothing and fabric from theirs stores as well as other fabrics. I was born in Kansas so maybe I need to do one of these! Thanks so much. Hugz, Tree
Where are you buying your small 28mm rotary blades? I ordered some and they had a different center than my fiskers cutter like you have. Mine is so dull I need to make an order and I haven't been seeing them.
I live in Kansas and I am curious as to whether the name of this quilt has any history behind it that you know of. Is “Kansas” being in the name significant of anything?
Happiness is opening my TH-cam and seeing a video from you Beth!!! :-)
I'm so glad you enjoy my videos!
Me too!
Kansas Dogout. This quilt is a piece of history. Beautiful.

Yes… very colorful!😊
That's a beautiful old quilt top. The quilt top you made is also beautiful. For some reason I like the striped fabric in this top the best. Thank you.
It is a fun fabric choice, isn’t it?
Thank you, Beth! I loved how you took a vintage quilt and figured out how to make a new quilt from it!
Glad you enjoyed it!
