Even if it seems like boring or repetitive work to you, you can still time-lapse it and make videos or shorts videos out of it. I'm sure a lot if us would still find it interesting or educational. I'm an electrician who like metal fabrication as a hobby so I'm trying to learn as much as possible.
That’s a good point. I guess I just figured if I’ve already done a video on a certain project, most people wouldn’t be interested in seeing the whole process all over again. But, I do see the value in maybe doing just a shop update video, and going over all of the current projects that I’m trying to get out the door. Kind of more….Organic I guess you would say. Thanks for the suggestion, and thanks for watching!
Good information, I've left out processes and consumables when I first started welding over 30 years ago, but I learned real quick how to correct that mistake. I learned that I'm not working for my business my business is going to have to work for me.
Awesome, very informative and helpful. Im just starting to figure out how to price the small jobs i do from time to time. Even me just doing it on the side for cash its hard to gauge sometimes but recently ive been making out better then i have in the past. Just sticking to my prices i give out and going with it
Yeah, it really is tuff. I had a hell of a time when I first started throwing a bid out and not feeling guilty or second guessing that I was charging too much. I feel like It’s especially hard when you start out because pretty much all your clients are people you know, so you don’t want them to feel like you’re gouging them, but you can’t do it for free either or you will fall on your face. It’s been one of the hardest things for me to learn as a business owner. I feel like I’m just starting to get the hang of it. I think people just need to understand you’re in business to make money. You offer a specialized skill with specialized equipment. The price is what it is. We have bills to pay. Didn’t mean to get back on the soap box, but it’s the truth.
Retired construction welder. Building a small shop cause I miss the smell of 6010 and 7018.. LOL I was looking for your brake. Glad you mentioned you subbed it out. A lot of small shops could start doing one thing and sub out half the job until they get equipment. A good relationship with other contractors can make you a lot of money. (I have a machine shop that is waiting for me to put up my shop. He hates having his guys welding as machining makes him more money.)
Sounds like you could have a pretty sweet deal going with that machine shop. That’s the kind of relationships that make you a lot of money in business. Keep up the good work, and thanks for watching!
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who struggles in front of a camera! 😂 It's really refreshing to see people's human side. The whole video was done professionally, but that element of humans make mistakes is what sets you apart and bought you a new subscriber. Thanks for what you do brother!
@@The_Baker_Social I hope my viewers see that I am a realist. I make mistakes. That’s how we learn. It isn’t always fun, but it’s part of the process. Thanks for subscribing, and thanks for watching!
Good advice. Thank you for your insight. As a business owner myself. I am always looking for different ways to calculate estimates and fine tune my process.
New subscriber here. Very comprehensive explanation on bidding out jobs. I have been putting together a small machine shop to support a TH-cam channel that will specialize in pre war race cars. I am starting my channel with the machines and move to the build of a 1928 Morgan/MG special Hillclimb racer. Thank you for sharing your knowledge.

Hey man, just found your channel, loving it so far! Watching up here from Michigan. I was told once that it’s a good thing to only get 80% of the jobs you quote. That means your prices are right where they should be!
Welcome aboard. Glad to have a viewer from Michigan. I’ve never heard the 80% thing, but it makes sense. If you get every job, I’m sure you’re not charging enough, and if you’re not getting any, you’re charging too much. You don’t invest your life’s savings and years of learning a trade to make friends. If you make some friends along the way, that’s great, but friends don’t pay the bills, money does. Dirty hands, Clean money. Thanks for watching! 🤘🏻🔥🇺🇸⚡️
I feel like I have no free time just with my day job, family, and side work. I don’t know how you have time to make good videos also haha. You are definitely using every bit of the 24 hours each day. Keep up the hustle. 🤘
There was a huge exit highway project in my area that the construction company that got the job grossly underbid it by millions of dollars and he ended up committing suicide over it.
Lots of stuff I would be interested in finding out but one question would be do you add any kind of multiplier to your material costs? So if a 4x8 sheet of metal costs you $10 do you add anything to that cost? Do you hold tax for the customer?
That was actually one thing I forgot to mention. I apologize. I do mark up materials 30% if I have to go pick them up. Which helps cover fuel costs. Some steel suppliers around here will deliver for free if it’s over $500. Thanks for watching!
That’s exactly how I felt about the first 3 years I was in business. I felt like I was just reinvesting everything in the business. I think it’s also due to the fact that I didn’t want to go into debt. And for the most part I’ve done pretty well. I did finance the burn table, but I wouldn’t hesitate to do that again. Worth every penny. Merry Christmas, and Thanks for watching!
I saw freedom fabrication and cringed not being an American but thought, hey that’s a nice looking work shop. Then I saw the Trump 2024 poster and you lost me. Sorry, but supporting a guy that has no interest in blue collar type jobs when you are in a blue collar type job seems defeatist to me. Best of luck growing the channel buts it’s not for me.
If you think the current administration cares more about blue collar jobs than Trump you should re-evaluate where you get your information, because you couldn’t be more wrong. Ask anyone that is in real trade work, and they’ll tell you the same thing. 2nd, If you can’t watch my channel because of a flag in my shop, you wouldn’t like this channel anyways. Just like the name says- FREEDOM fabrication. I believe in a free country, where I get to support whoever I want. Just like you. Sounds like you aren’t from America, but that’s what this country was founded upon. If you can’t Gut the fact that I support someone you disagree with, you best keep looking for a channel that agrees with every single thing you do. Good luck.
