The 4 cylinder is fine (I have one in a Tacoma and it's a very fun engine). The hard plastics are standard Toyota plastics and texture. I'm pretty sure they are exact same plastics my 2015 Tundra had. And both of my last two 4runners had a lot of hard plastic. Nothing new to Toyota. And the pricing on these are fairly adjusted for inflation relative to previous launch models.

Land Cruiser for me - in the base model. Cheesy body styling on the 4R, LC much cleaner and nicer styling. More functionality in the LC ('24 or '25, pretty much the same in the LC).
If Toyota reads these comments, I don’t know why do you don’t make that hood scoop functional since now you are using a turbo and bringing cool air in to cool the turbo, I would go a long way to help keeping it cool. I mean how much trouble is there to punch a hole in the hood when it’s being stamped and then use some plastic for the duct work.
The moment I saw this car, I remembered the second generation model of this car. In Japan, it is called Hilux Surf. I don't think SUVs were as popular in Japan at that time as they are now, but I still thought it was a cool car. Thank you for reminding me of the good old days!
I don't care about turbos, Horsepower, torque or whatever if its going to be even slightly less reliable then I will keep my V6 4runner until it breaks down 200k miles from now. I do like the interior aside from the smaller back seat leg room.
Seems to me that everyone is complaining that its not a Highlander. 4Runner is loved because its everything you need and nothing you dont. All those extras are extra things to break.
I have owned a 5th generation 4runner, and I now have a Taco with this new engine. Outside of untested reliability, I'd pick this new engine all day long. The acceleration and power makes up for the noise, which is the only noticeable downside. I'm personally not worried about reliability either because some of the best engines Toyota has ever made were Turbo 4s.

Being based on the Taco with issues is not a big selling point especially at the high MSRPs they will be asking. I do hope Toyota sorts that out. I traded my 2nd gen Taco for a 24 Limited and I love this new powertrain. So much better than the 4.0. I have all the power and torque I need and have no issues with the tranny and no doubt it will be reliable
This is perfect. This is the truck to buy. It will last 4ever. I think it is interesting that if you are in the market for a midsize SUV in this price range and you don’t strongly consider this. All of the owners seem to be very happy. I also love the mods on these things.
With Toyota having the 4runner, the Sequoia, and the new LandCruiser out they have pretty much cornered themselves in the market. Gonna be great for the discounts when these vehicles don't move off the lots.

Beautiful shape and color, but the biggest concern is the turbo engine... we have had many problems already with Tacomas and Tundras, so there is a huge concern. Then there is the price. I sincerely hope Toyota won't ruin this great model forever!
I'd add trail style gray wheels mounted on 285's.....remove roof rails and add roof basket flat black, and remove the cheap looking 4runner letters on the base of the trunk lid. And still no engine cover.
Great job showcasing the next gen TRD Sport. They are going out of the way to sell this far and wide, a few mods away from rock crawling, but comes in mall crawler configuration and trimming to have a bit of glitz and glam for the soccer mom segment. Keeping the family safe in body on frame coolness. Overall, I agree with the zonks and wouldn’t mind the TRD parked in my garage next to my jellybean pathfinder platinum.
This is Rav4 Maximus. Toyota grabbing money now. No real utility features, lack of luxury touch even for an off-roader because the price will certainly be 70-80 grands. A turbo charged engine is another bummer.
Nope, gonna keep my 23’ TRD OR 4Runner forever, tried and true v6 naturally aspirated 5 speed transmission. This thing will easily go over 400k, good luck with those turbos. I’ll give it until 120k before they all shit the bed.
This one won't be that expensive. The TRD Pro and TRD Off-Road are the most pricey and probably will fall in that price range that you're thinking. This is mainly appearance and some touches on the interior. Low $50k's me thinks. The Bronco is probably still the better value but you can't get one with a solid roof, and that can be a noisy and rattly driving experience. Especially 5-10 years down the road.
I’m between a Land Cruiser 1958 and a 4Runner (Trd Sport or Trd Off Road). If it’s all hard plastics like the LC 1958 then I’ll probably go with the LC because it’s hybrid and has more climate controls in the rear.
Zonk 4 cylinder Turbo. Zonk high MSRP when it is listed. Just like the redesigned Tundra with motor and other quality issues and redesigned Tacoma having issues, both coming out at high prices, it will take me years of them being on the road before I consider one.

Looks nice on the exterior for the TRd sport, but it lacks on nicer materials on the interior. I would not be surprised if the TRD sports is the same price as the Passport trail sport Elite which has a far better interior. I don’t off road so Passport will be a better vehicle to live with everyday for city driving.
I owned a 5th Gen V6. Could not comfortably pull my boat with it. I actually just downsized from a Tundra to a new Tacoma because this 4 banger pulls my boat almost exactly the same as my previous Tundra. It's impressive. Also a lot more fun on the interstate. Acceleration and passing power is way better. I'd imagine its nearly the same in the 4runner.

I think the front grill department didnt hold any meetings with the headlight department during development and things didnt end up fitting together quite right😂

Tacoma TRD Sport starts at 40. With the I-Force Max it's 46. 4 Runner will be a little more than Tacoma, but nowhere close to 20k more.
