    Since you were talking about people who don't comment regularly. I'm one of those. I typically watch TH-cam on my TV so it's not a normal habit. But I've watched you for probably a decade now. I even had to redo my TH-cam about a year ago cuz I got locked out of my email and you were the first one I looked up. You've been part of my everyday for a long time which I'm sure is weird for someone you don't know to say. But thank you for sitting with me through my dark moments sometimes even if you didn't realize it.

      Same here. Not a daily watcher but I've been watching Jeff for a good 10 years or more. For a while there the algorithm wouldn't show him on my feed and I wasn't even getting alerts about his videos even though I was subscribed. Still make sure to give him all the views and likes I can though I might not comment every time.

    Moral of the story...zorro in a tic tac case lasts the absolute longest...cheers!

    The Zorro metal gasket is best used with the Zippo fuel canister, you can carry it around while low or empty and have a full canister. I only use a little bit of fluid each time I fill and the majority will be sealed 100%. I still have one handed operation unlike the tic tac, but I must refill more often.

    Fun fact. I put a Zippo in a zip-lock bag and froze it in water. Over a year later I took it out. It lit on first strike. The weird thing is it lasted longer than any other fill/refill I've ever had despite using it a lot and it being stored relatively warm/carried in my pocket etc.
    I'm not saying it would be practical to do this if you switch back and forth a lot but you can definitely do that if you want to *freeze* the countdown clock before you need a refill.
    It has also gotten me to wonder if the lighter fluid somehow improves with long term freezing, or what the reason for this was. It lasted well over two weeks if I recall correctly.

    Tic tac boxes are so useful, I keep them for many things, pins, wire, cord, screws, etc.
    Thanks for showing your testing and insert.

    A few years back I had to move into a friends home while I looked for alternative accommodation and there was another friend also living there who had his girlfriend regularly staying over on top of that being a bunch of lads living together in one house there was even more friends who would come round to visit everyday ! So for the first couple of weeks living there the question kept being asked "why is there a can of lighter fluid in the fridge ? " And I would have to explain that after using a zippo for many years I had noticed years ago that as soon as you flip the little spout on top of a can of lighter fluid it seems to break a seal and when it warms up you start too loose the fluid through evaporation this I had noticed one hot summer when I went to fill my lighter up and most of the fluid had gone leaving the can with barely a lighters full of fluid I had only filled my lighter with it once before and nobody else used it so it was obvious it had evaporated ! Ever since I have kept my lighter fluid in a little corner of the fridge and when I put it there I always know the can always has the same amount in it as when I last left it ! After explaining this to everyone and reassuring my friends girlfriend it won't affect her food in the fridge it became accepted as normal ! I thought I would share this so you would have a way of extending the shelf life of your tik tak box and so I could smugly say I have been using a zippo for more than 40 years think how much money I have saved ! And I know younger people will read this and think or say lighter fluid doesn't cost that much ! Well I'm now becoming the type of old person who asks the price of something and then says how much ? And proceeds to tell you for that amount of money the whole family could have gone on vacation for a month when I was your age !

    Another sweet video flick! I've become not so concerned about fuel evaporation any more as just due to habit I top off my EDC zippo's every 5 days just because I'm crazy. That way. I do use the rubber inserts which help some and also use a rubber insert with a zippo in a Thyrm. I mainly use that one so the zippo doesn't beat up my Outback key fob in my pocket. On another note I gotta' try that cool Zorro insert. Looks Steve McQueen cool and the gang. I just got a Kuboy Brass Constantine K506 that is also has the stove pipe top hat and a built in brass trap door for the fuel but no zippo style flip top. Always look forward to the kine video flicks from you. Mahalo!

    Neat lil video. I work with data analysts so my curiosity is a lil more focused. Was the loss on a linear trend or were there days where they all had dips etc. like would weather affect the rate at which the weight decreased.

    small ziplock bags will do the same in limiting evaporation I bet, just like wearing mask during covid, anything that reducing air exchange matters, even carrying your zippo inside a pouch or leave it inside your pocket , or inside your drawer, on inside it's own box probably already limiting some fuel evaporation than putting the same zippo near an open window or infront of AC or exhaust fan, under a direct sunlight for a polarizing example, imagine naptha moth balls or air/ room/ car air refresher different places you put them directly affect how much you can smell them meaning more or less evaporation while all things remain equal. so zorro insert is a clear winner because it adds on top of the basic zippo's evaporation rate alone regardless of how you store it, imagine if that zorro insert is then placed inside a drawer or inside a pouch or even similar tictac case then it will add extra weeks or probably months on top of your tictac's result.

    Does anyone know if these inserts are the same metal all the way through or coated?
    Update: Couldn't find any info but I'm ordering one since they are relatively cheap regardless, although if they aren’t in the future I'm just gonna buy a different material one. Should be here in 2 months and I'll give an update if anyone cares.

  • @saltyshellback
    @saltyshellback 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder how long the fuel would last if you put one of those thick rubber bands from a stalk of broccoli around the seam.
    Definitely cheaper and won't take up much space.

      Buy a Vector Thunderbird insert previously reviewed by Jeff'. If used rarely they last for years without refilling. I own 4 of them and play with them every now and then and haven't added butane in at least 3 years.

    I have heard that unleaded gasoline can be used as fuel in Zippos, can you confirm that ❓

    • @cutlerylover
      @cutlerylover  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      haven't tried it myself although a bunch of different flammable fuels can be used most if not all would only be short term as it would damage the wick and it would no longer light

    • @MrAnakin1996
      @MrAnakin1996 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can. Here's what's to keep in mind:
      It burns relatively filthy, so I wouldn't recommend it for anything but outdoor use for say campfires. Also it, of course, will dirty up your lighter more; and have an effect on the wick etc. And it gives off a less refined scent when filled with this fuel too.
      It appears to evaporate more quickly too so the lighter gets dry quicker. If this is an issue for you depends on how you use it.
      It could also be less healthy to use and handle, but I think that would depend.
      I wouldn't keep it lit for too long with this fuel, to prevent overheating. I don't know how much more sensitive it is to overheating related issues in practice.
      I don't know how good it is for the glue/resin inside inserts of the lighter, if it can damage such over time as it is not intended for this use. The lighter I used gasoline/petrol in got this issue, but it wasn't a brand Zippo and not of great quality but I make no promises on this end.
      Overall I don't recommend it for most use/people due to the cons, but under very specific circumstances it is more than capable to take unleaded gasoline as fuel. I wouldn't bother as a cost saving measure though but make your own judgment on that.
