New Zealand and Australian bands are vast untapped sources of wonderful music.
Vast resource? Yes. Untapped? Hardly. Ausssie and NZ bands: they’ve been known and listened to bought their records played on mostly college radios across US last show I went too was Amyl and the Sniffers so I would say very tapped speaking of Amyl and tapping I can only wish hell freezes over!
Heard this song on Spotify the other day and was hooked, couldn’t believe it was from 1987 thought it was a relatively new song
I couldn't believe I hadn't heard of them either. And now I've gone on to find a bunch of other great New Zealand bands and chaining off from them to several other newish bands to me
Not to be a wonk or anything, but 1987 IS relatively new. In the grand scope of things, like the voice says when you're sitting in the planetarium and so on....
@@awarewolves1712 true but it’s old to me considering I was born in the late nineties
@@kof867 Yeah I was just goofing. Like relative as within the cosmic timeline of the universe and such. Lol. Great song, glad you dig it, take care.
So the off pitch probably is just tape stretch or whatever wowed and fluttered in the analog age. I love this mix of tears and brutality, like Machu Pichu by the Strokes and Berlin got blurry by Parquet Courts. Stranglers...Buzzcocks...lots of that out there!❤
I’ll never forget hearing this half pissed at a party when I was in the 5th form ‘82 .
New Zealand is a trove of incredible rock music. Every Bats release is fantastic!
Ryan's toy review
Nothing is better than better the best . The Bats !Always the best, too many 'b's sorry... . from my home town, nice track.
Yeah the only people in the states that were aware of the NZ music scene in the late 70s and 80s were a niche microcosm of university students who listened to late night campus radio
Flying nun was one of my fav labels in the 80,s.check out the clean, bailter space, the gordens, the Jean Paul sarte experience,And the headless chickens just to name a few.
Must have been something in the water over there.
I guess Im randomly asking but does anyone know of a trick to log back into an Instagram account..?
I was stupid forgot the password. I appreciate any tips you can offer me!
I heard this song at a dive bar in LA for the 1st time and this song has never left me it’s been on my playlist for 3 years now
it is freakin' fantastic!
@@etamommy I agree
Funny that..got to see them live in a dive Pub in Australia. They've been on my playlist ever since
Really? In L.A America? That's lovely to hear a band from my hometown, chilly Dunedin, New Zealand, is reaching everyone. Genuinely put a smile on my face. Check out the Verlaines and the Chills too bro, more "Dunedin Sound".
What ever bar it was, it was not a dive bar. It is a bar w/refined taste.
type of tune you never want to end
That fuzzy bass energizes me! What a tune!
Beautiful bass sound!
Remember listening to this at the dux deluxe, floor felt like a trampoline 👍
Found this by chance today. Now it’s become one of my favourite tracks of all time. I promise I will use it on a film when I can. I’ll see you back here.
I listen to this everyday.
I have always liked the drummer's pre-beat accents and the Bass as lead. Also, this period was full of experimentation in the video arts.
Wow I didn't know The Bats have been around so long. Rock on, Batmen!
Flying Nun Bands, and The Bats are Kiwi 🥝 Iconic music 🎶 for what we are.
Reminds me of my childhood
These guys are so much fun.
I first saw them at a student union concert in the very early 80s.
They went on to blow my ears out on a regular basis throughout the 80s at our local pub.
I was at art school and Paul, the bass player was my life model. It was always amusing to see him fully clothed *wink*
Canterbury?
@@delaunean I remember Paul being the events coordinator for the UCSA back in the late '90s/early '00s. (Back when we still had regular events...)
this song is absolutely amazing.
What’s it about?
@@paulcarr2207It's about whatever you want it to mean. That's what music's all about.
What???? The Bats And The Chills in one day???? Thanks for these uploads!!!
Pop music doesn’t get better than this, great great band, luv the bats!
Haa this just popped into my head...I was probably 20 last time I heard it LOL
There's a lot of great music from New Zealand.
this is what we call pop
01:10 The Bats predict Covid
Went from the US to Scotland to study. Brought a CD booklet with like 40 LPs. The Bats were two. Tuatara, Tall Dwarves and The Verlaines too. : )
i love this song ✨
Same. Haven't heard until now since the late '80s.
Looking forward to seeing them in Glasgow. This album is a classic
How was it
Cuánta calidad madre!! Este sublime kiwi rock banda, Enorme para la Eternidad,y aún haciendo hoy discos dignos!!
Love this song . Thank you John Drower.
this is my new favourite tune :) this period, early mid 80s, fecund period for Australian and NZ music - go-betweens, triffids, nick cave, church - and the cross fertilization between them.
p.s. can we please return rusty and richard wilkins (previously richard wild) post haste.
and bands from New Zealand too.
Arrrrhhh the go betweens take me back to my room and putting them on the stereo. Going to look him up on the TH-cam right now.
Yes! Plus dave dobbin slice of heaven😁😁
it's been my favorite for a little while now. this is what i consider pop perfection
@@NashSpaceRocket lol it would seem he is missing the point somewhat. all new zealand ingenuity, inspiration, grit and heart. thankyou kiwis!! they will be playing clean at my funeral
Damn! They were so young!! Been following them since then.
I appreciate the Bats more now than I did then. Thank you for sharing. Jangle jangle
Fab visuals and bonza tune!
I've had this song on my phone for 2 yrs...
Wow I'm in love with this💕❤️
I genuinely don't know the meaning of this song but it genuinely made me genuinely happy and genuinely forgot all my life problem for a few minutes
That’s what this song is about
Genius, so proud of your label and its accomplishments.
First time I heard it I liked it!
Brilliant stuff! I can't get this song out of my head!
they gave me a ride in PN
The Dunedin sound to the for with many great bands of the 80s
Epic
Lyrics are included in "Volume 1". Don't have it anymore to double-check but this is pretty close:
He's my man, his mind's made up in blue
All those friends he's been talking to
His kiddin' ways, coming to an end now
The lonely kind is waiting for its time
(Chorus:
And I don't know, my mind's made up in blue
All those friends you've been talking to)
The scars on his hand are glowing like his eyes now
As he grips on to another day
The ones with better times have gone by now
Better times are when you're in control
(Chorus x2)
His second-rate ravings don't thrill me
Even if they did some time before
Only his blue eyes still drill me
As I get to know my friend, the floor
(Chorus x2)
all the flying nun bands had that groovy indy sound influenced by 60s and 70s rock
Can really hear the Eno influence on this one 😍 Like a groovy sped up Burning Airlines ...
Love this stuff!
listening to this in dunedin, legendary
Good times.
❤️
The drums slap, as the kids say
Dédicace à mon professeur d'histoire qui m'a fait découvrir ce groupe énormeee !
Comme ma bite
go bats go!!
Man, I hadn't seen a Citroen GS in ages.
such a good pop song
sad as a Tasmanian to only just be hearing this!
Good, isn't it!
happy, as a Tasmanian, to have fiiiiiiiiiiinally found (since first hearing it on cassette as a teenager with my first love) 'Happy Endings' by Bored Games (same era, same label ) - it's on You Tube - enjoy!
Superb
Here's my best stab at the lyrics, no lyrics sheets on my 12" single...
I'm sure I have some of it wrong, the raping bit just sounds too weird

Wants the better times have gone by now
Better times are, when you're in control
And I don't know, my minds made up in blue
All those friends you've been talking to (x2)
He's thinking rain, rainy days don't thrill me
Even if they did some time before
Lonely, his blue eyes still drill me
Because I get to know my friend before
And I don't know, my minds made up in blue
All those friends you've been talking to (x2)

Fuck that is dark being trying to get these lyrics for a while

BON SANG
walkin' out on love chords
dope riff regardless
It's a very simple chord progression, tonnes of writers will have found it independently! Doubt Paul Collins was the very first.
hell yeah, dominiqua dominiquo over land over sea to see what we could find....
Anyone know where to find the lyrics?
ممنونم ازلطفتون ولی من فقط همجنس بازی پسرمیخواستم زیرشانزدهساله متشکرم
