  • El-Rufai secures $6m loan for light rail and BRT.
Kaduna State has secured a $6 million loan from Indian Xing Bank to build Kaduna light rail from Rigachikun to Maraban Rido and French concessionary line of credit to build Bus Rapid Transit (BRT), Governor Nasir El-Rufai has said.
Addressing the ground breaking of BRT in Kaduna, El-Rufai said as part of the State Government efforts to ease traffic congestion, it conceived a three-prong approach towards solving the transportation problems for efficient human and vehicular movement.
He said: ‘’We began to explore the possibility of having a light rail stretching from Rigachikun to Maraban Rido and we made progress securing financing from Indian Xing Bank to the tune of 6 million dollars to execute that project.
‘’We engaged the famous French Transportation Consulting firm, systra to do the feasibility studies as well as engineering design for the project, however, government has been unable to find someone that will operate the light rail when it is completed.

Well done and great start. More cities in Nigeria should have this kind of transportation system.

This is impressive, they should endeavor to complete the project and not abandon it like the one in Rivers State.

This is where excellence and ingenuity of Jagaban's leadership comes handy. Development of Sustainable Democratic Governance is required be ensuring that his successors are kept on track like Lagos Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu's model.

Nigerian leaders are very fantastic with borrowing. Why is there no governor thinking on strategy to expand IGR? Why is no Governor thinking on cutting cost of governance by first reviewing salaries, allowances and financial benefits of public servants? Why not review procurement procedures in the state? Borrowings for projects have often been looted and projects abandoned. God save Nigeria

I am very sure the amount quoted here is definitely not the entire cost sum of the project.
The information you seek can easily be accessed via internet search.

Six million dollars on a rail road project is a waste of time and money.
It will never get any where.
You need about $4m/Km of rail road. Stop trying what you can not get done

$6m is probably facilitation fees however $4m /km is not true in northern Nigeria where their land is flat and rigid, it is easier and cheaper to build road and train line on that type of land.

Please learn to appreciate good development happening to Nigeria. What was your opinion when the past leaders stole all the money from the treasury and left without a single development? People like you are bad omen to this country because of your hatred for people you can not reach. So pocket your hatred and watch Nigeria grow.

Hahahahahahahaha. I laugh aloud in Buduma Language.....!!!!!!!
I am a Development Engineer and weigh out all things before I put my head. Did you read my submission at all? Every Km of rail road requires $4m + if it's a light rail, may be $3.5m for every kilometer. That's the facts around project execution and not wishful thinking. For seventeen Km as you read, you have to multiply $3.5 X 17 = $59.5m besides contract endorsement arrangements and payments and litigations with respect to properties along the rail path.
What has that got to do with Nigeria and hatred? It's an international standard which you need to inform yourself about. We have gone beyond goosebumps moved by politicians as the case above looks very much like.
Did you try to find out the costs of the ones Lagos is building and launching?
$7m is not even anywhere near anything in the distance Rufai is talking about and I seriously smell a rat.
To talk of your country Nigeria makes me laugh. It's as if you're more Nigerian than anyone else. The only difference between us is that, whilst you're enthused by political bells, we as Development Economists and Engineers look at facts. This your Rail Project here is an elephant in a small room.
