2 years ago on this day I lost my little brother to suicide. My brother and I tried to stop him right up to the very end... I sit here weeping, typing this out listening to this song on loop thinking about him. We both tattooed his name on us and wear him on our arms til our dying day. He may be gone, but he will never be forgotten. Thank you Flogging Molly for making this amazing and wonderful song. We saw you in KC with Dropkick Murphy as you preformed this song... it means so much to us, please.. never stop playing this song. God bless.
I lost a close friend to suicide several years ago. The pain doesn't go away , and honestly the time spent going further and further away from them will always feel odd. But those you love, and songs like these will certainly help quell those feelings from time to time mate .
On May 28th, 2020 I lost my mother due to COVID. She was my heroine. She still showed up to work as a nurse when others coward to show up to save lives.
On April 5th 2024 my father played this song on his laptop for my brothers and I while he was in the hospital. Four hours later he had passed away. You knew how to pick them, Dad. I love you.
I haven't ever been a huge fan. Not even going to lie. Lol However my bestfriend Amanda absolutely loved Flogging Molly and Drop Kick Murphys. I lost her to fatal car wreck on 01-31-21. She left behind 3 awesome kids. I listen to this and I think she would approve of this song choice for her. Life's so short and precious! Tell the people that matter the most how special they are to you!! I'm so glad she knew how much I loved her. That's one regret I don't have to live with.
If I ever leave this world alive I'll thank you for all the things you did in my life If I ever leave this world alive I'll come back down and sit beside your feet tonight Wherever I am, you'll always be More than just a memory If I ever leave this world alive If I ever leave this world alive I'll take on all the sadness that I left behind If I ever leave this world alive The madness that you feel will soon subside So, in a word, don't shed a tear I'll be here when it all gets weird If I ever leave this world alive So when in doubt, just call my name Just before you go insane If I ever leave this world, hey, I may never leave this world But if I ever leave this world alive She says I'm okay, I'm alright Though you have gone from my life You said that it would Now everything should be all right She says I'm okay, I'm alright Though you have gone from my life You said that it would Now everything should be all right Yeah should be all right
My dad is fighting cancer, he was diagnosed 6 months ago, he had surgery and chemo, but it still hasn't gotten any better. My girlfriend plays in an irish band and whenever i hear them play this song, i burst into tears. It is one of the most meaningfull songs i have heard in my life. When i hear it, I think of my father and i wish with all my heart that he wins this battle with cancer. To anyone who is facing this kind of things; stay strong and believe in better times, you are not alone!❤️ p.s. Sorry for my english, i am not a native speaker. Flogging molly thank you for this song.
Just lost my dad to lung cancer last year , my dad introduced me into the band when I was kid , never felt so close to a song , and it’s quite comforting
I lost my mom due to COVID while I was deployed. I listen to this song as comfort because I know she wouldn't want me to suffer. I just wished I got to say good bye, or even hug her one last time
I’ve listened to this EVERY night since the lockdown began...along with assorted horrible 80’s mixes, strange visits to videos down the TH-cam rabbit hole and John Stewart tributes to Bruce Springsteen lol. Thank you Flogging Molly....you f’kin’ rule and you probably know it, and well...keep on doing what you do!
My Dad got into Flogging Molly from me constantly playing them in my bedroom. One night I went to go see the and picked him up a button as a souvenir. The next morning I gave it to him and he teasingly replied: "Oh nice! Real nice! You go to see Flogging Molly and don't invite your old man?" "Fine old man. Next time they come to town I'll buy the tickets and we'll go. It's a date." We never got to go. He had a heart attack two months later. Instead I played this at his funeral. Now it's my Dad's song to remind me it's going to be alright.
Oh my love… ouch. My dad passed away a few months ago and my heart is so broken. Dad and I loved music and listened, played, sang… all the time. It sound like you had a bond the same. As the song says…. Wherever you are, you’ll always be, more than just a memory…. And our dads have left us with more than memories… they have left us with songs Flogging Molly will bring him back for you…. It’s now your song
I was to leave for Scotland Tuesday to toast him on his birthday on top of a highland hill talk to him and play this song to tell him I love him. Trip posted but it just won't be the same.
First time I heard this song was a my good friends funeral. Love you my friend! You will always be in my heart! Austin Simon APRIL 2, 1980 - OCTOBER 31,2019 Rest easy brother!
I left this world alive before. I cried like a baby when I got back, probably much like when I arrived. There's a bridge in our mind to where we are going. Spoiler alert, it's where we've always been. We're eternal.
Had to put my dog down the other day. My best friend, my constant companion, my spirit guide, my psychiatrist and my sidekick. Worst day of my life but he was ready to go and had no fight left in him. Played this as I held him until he left. He’s ok now, he’s alright and he will always be at my feet. This song will always hit different now. Until Valhalla Benson. Thank you for everything
This is my favorite song in the world. I heard it when i was 10 over 12 years ago and the first time i listened to it with my mom i told her i want this played at my funeral.
My late fiance introduced me to flogging Molly. We got to see them in tucson in March of 2023 unfortunately he passed away 2 months later in a house fire. I love you John Howard Grosvenor III. I always cherish the time we had together. R.I.P my love
This and drop kick Murphy's rose tattoo. Fuck playing at my funeral. I'm playing these every single day until my funeral. Then they play what they want I don't care.
Beautiful and intense. However, my take on the lyrics is the subject of this great song is a lost love, and she is relieved to have the author (singer) rid. A cruel twist of a love song.
I lost my dearest friend today. He would have loved this song. This is for you J. Life will not be the same without you. You take care now you son of a bitch
Might just be me, but what always gets about this song is there’s an air of wishful thinking on the part of the singer. I always interpret the second half as him dearly hoping she’ll say “I’m ok,” because he wants her to be.

If this isn't played at my funeral, I'm not going.

This made me burst out laughing lol, thanks
Fuckin' same!
I'll boycott that shit!
I'm gonna do the same thing
Same, want it for my funeral one day, since i heard it the first time.

Some songs mean something. This is definitely one of them.
On May 28th, 2020 I lost my mother due to COVID. She was my heroine. She still showed up to work as a nurse when others coward to show up to save lives.

It'll get easier my friend. Trust me.
My husband of 45 years passed away on 4/6/2024. I played that for him just before he died.
This was played at my daughter's celebration of like. Forever 20. Missing her greatly tonight and always. She loved Flogging Molly.
I love that you called it the celebration of life
This song and the comments below are perfect for having that good cry to get it all out of your system until tomorrow.

@Eugene Sincere glad I could help =)
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll thank you for all the things you did in my life
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll come back down and sit beside your feet tonight
Wherever I am, you'll always be
More than just a memory
If I ever leave this world alive
If I ever leave this world alive
I'll take on all the sadness that I left behind
If I ever leave this world alive
The madness that you feel will soon subside
So, in a word, don't shed a tear
I'll be here when it all gets weird
If I ever leave this world alive
So when in doubt, just call my name
Just before you go insane
If I ever leave this world, hey, I may never leave this world
But if I ever leave this world alive
She says I'm okay, I'm alright
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would
Now everything should be all right
She says I'm okay, I'm alright
Though you have gone from my life
You said that it would
Now everything should be all right
Yeah should be all right
This song makes me thankful for every moment I have with my Roxie girl. A pups love is the most unconditional thing in this existence.

I've always loved this song but we lost my father this past week and now it brings comfort
I'm 11 and I have to say this is the most touching song ever.
Good taste in music for a youngster!
You've found a good song, and a good genre of music, lad. But I'm sure you know that already. :P
I lost my mom due to COVID while I was deployed. I listen to this song as comfort because I know she wouldn't want me to suffer. I just wished I got to say good bye, or even hug her one last time

In my opinion….a great song….lovely counter melody…..and it certainly applies in times when things have gone weird.
Only song I know that makes me cry and still smile
Have been listening this song since 8-9years. Never gets old, not a day. This song has my heart ❤️
I’ve listened to this EVERY night since the lockdown began...along with assorted horrible 80’s mixes, strange visits to videos down the TH-cam rabbit hole and John Stewart tributes to Bruce Springsteen lol. @Sean Dietrich Art are you vaccinated now, and still listening to this song?
I remember many years ago hearing this the first time on an episode of The Shield. That was a great show and this is a great song.
Same here.
This song gives me goosebumps.
