It's Elsa's Birthday :) Happy Earth day to you!!!!
And Happy land owner Anniversary too! ❤
Happy Birthday Elsa.
I like the large wide armrest on your beanbag sofa/ bed.
It can accommodate a book , cup of coffee and a large plate of food comfortably.
Happy birthday creative spirit 🎉 to many more 🍾
Happy Birthday Elsa! Its my birthday to.
Happy birthday 🎂
Suggestion: If you put the laundry in the bathroom you can then close the door so you don't have as much noise in your main open room.
Yes!! Love this!
Your home is going to be lovely when finished the windows are amazing I would love them in my home. Are going to have a septic tank system. Also you have room for a lovely big planting area for all your vegetables and fruit trees.
I learned years ago, never put your piano on an outer wall of the house. It can cause condensation as well as the cold can harm the back board, causing it to warp. It would never be the same. I did it to mine. My piano tuner said it was ruined! 😢 sooo, put your piano on a inside wall to be safe! Just FYI!!! 😃
Our first home 40 years ago, was cement blocks, insulated with the stucco on the outside. We added a greenhouse to the south facing wall, but made one mistake. We use slanted secondhand windows, and all they did was leak!! do not slant your windows.
It’s not worth the extra effort! Also make sure you have some kind of heavy duty shade cloth for summer heat because it will get hot in there.!!! Good luck and enjoy the process.💕🌞🤪
I love it when people explain their plans and show me their place. It helps us all build our dreams and "Seize the Day."
Elsa and Barron- what an awesome house, and you will be great parents.
What's even more awesome than your property is the joy you exhibit over the process of bringing your dreams to life.
🎂Happy Birthday🎂
Elsa!!!!!!
🤙🧙♂️🐺👍
Happy birthday, Elsa!!! How appropriate that your birthday is on Earth Day. I love that! You're home is coming along so beautifully and I couldn't be happier for you guys!
Your cozy home is adorable. I love your plans. The beauty of the house design is the potential to add on to it. For the first few years a baby can sleep in your bedroom but in the years before they are independent enough for the A-frame, they will need a bedroom of their own. There is potential to build a room for them above the garage or beside the greenhouse. Also kids of 2 or 3 years old can't shower and might be too big for the kitchen sink so maybe a tub with a shower in the bathroom is needed?
Happy Birthday Elsa, and many more ! 🎉❤
You probably know this but for pots and pans to be compatible with an induction cooktop they must be made of a magnetic material: either iron or iron-based, such as steel. Induction heating works by exciting the iron atoms in cookware, so there needs to be enough iron in your pots and pans for the heat to happen.
Definitely think a full-wall library is the better idea for your living room/editing desk area. It makes the most sense, and will be more aesthetically pleasing and calming for that space. I think a gear wall is a dope idea, but that can look janky and cluttered, even when organized. You could do that in the transitional space where your stairs, bathroom and storage are, or could even [eventually] create a little micro space nearby (similar to the shipping container office). Just a few thoughts as someone who likes design and organization!
The house, and the way you and your community have been building it together, is very cool. Good luck!
Keep your options with cook tops open. Have induction AND propane. Redundant systems that don't rely on the same technology expands reliability. I like propane because of the control and simplicity.
Personally, I prefer propane because it's fast, and you can cook with any type of pot or pan. Someone else mentioned that induction has the benefit of not heating the house during the summer, which is something to consider. For your purposes, I think it comes down to whether you want to rely on solar power for cooking or not. In the winter, you can always use the wood stove. But if you have a couple cloudy days in the fall/spring it may be annoying to have to conserve energy for cooking.
Happy birthday Elsa!
So impressed with your home!! It is much like many of the homes built in Iranian villages by nomads who are giving up the nomadic life but still have their sheep and goats. They too use the cement blocks and a sort of plastered walls inside and cement on the outside. The women also participate in the construction of the homes. Many of them are building these homes in the mountains with some even using solar panels. Often they have access to springs where they will run long pipes to their land so they have water. It’s incredible to watch them climb and traverse mountains, some even pregnant with a backpack and child on their back. The women are very strong and inspirational. Your lives are similar in many ways.
Coming from the restaurant industry 15 years in now, induction burners in my opinion heat up much slower & don’t always have consistent heat throughout the panel. If you’re not used to working with induction, getting the temperatures can be tricky but overall just as reliable as propane. Maybe see how much power each will pull then go from there😊
For off grid living a propane stove is more reliable especially in the cloudy winter seasons. And there is also the durability aspect to think about. If you drop anything heavy on an induction top and break it you can't use it until it's fixed which can get really expensive. I've cooked with both and when my induction stove had it's electrical panel in it break and it was going to cost as much as a new stove to fix it I decided to go back to a gas stove. The clean up is a bit more but overall I find it to be the better option.
Filling in cracks in Barron’s desk: think small chipped stone…. My son does woodwork and often uses chips like turquoise with epoxy to add a pop of color to his pieces 👍🏻
Love this idea!!
Oooooooh Finally a new Vid 👍🏻🙂👍🏻
Happy birthday!!!! Propane stove all day long it’s way more user friendly when your using any canners and all the things .. the other stove has weight restrictions and after a while they look like crap,, I’m clumsy and I’ve broken one by dropping a big heavy out 😊..if you can keep your fridge and stove with something in the middle of them makes your appliances more efficient..if you have your oven on its trying to heat up and if your fridge is right next to it you use more power because the fridge has a heat effect it has to work harder,, I learned that one too late lol you guys are doing an amazing unique collective home it’s so wonderful what creations you can manifest when your not restricted by a permit system ..
I love the progress!
Put the fridge in the corner. My kitchen is set up a bit like your's, I put it at the entry. It gets in the way when more than 1 person is in the kitchen.
Can't wait to see what's to come in the next year 🙂
Happy Birthday Elsa!!!
Nice graphics illustrating your future plans. Permaculture plantings make total sense.
It's so good to see you both. Happy Birthday Elsa 🥳 and Happy Earth Day.🌎
I love your cozy little home. The future plans look great.
You have an amazing, AWESOME home.. I wish you guys the best of health, happiness, and peace together in your new home…😁👍
I prefer cooking with propane (or even biomass gas) and with a woodstove backup.
Induction cook tops produce strong electro magnetic fields, some significantly exceeding supposed standards and far more than microwave ovens. Do some research. Be safe. ❤
re: firepit on top of house...check your homeowners insurance, as it's probably not allowed/covered...also, as nice as it sounds, fire on top of house is dangerous. I know this bc when I bought my condo, the previous owner had a barbeque on the back deck (3rd floor) that caught fire to the poles holding up the entire 3 floors of the deck. Hence my insurance policy did not allow any type of firepit/barbeque etc on the home proper. For more context, my home was cement block as well. Love your structures and your land! Good luck with your future endeavors
Great job! I have been watching you for years and am so happy you are getting things done. Very smart not to go into debt.
Interior Designer here 🙋🏼♀️ Induction cooktops are so much better for indoor air quality! I was skeptical at first, but induction is so safe and cool. Love watching your build!
Love your place/space. I've eagerly watched every step of the way! You're my favorite people and I wish I could be a Patreon. Suggestion 1: plan/build kid space ... if you want kids. No better way to get little feet pattering around than having a space prepared for them ;-) Suggestion 2: In regard to the kitchen. If you put the fridge back in the corner, then while you're cooking everyone will be scooting around you to get to the fridge. Eagerly waiting for the next video :D
You've already had better ideas than I could possibly come up with. Blessings to you and to what you're doing!
You're correct about open cabinets, they will get cluttered and if you're OCD it'll drive you nuts.
My daughter recently remodeled an old house. She and her husband have 3 children and everyone cooks. Husband wanted induction burners and my daughter prefers gas. She managed to find matching countertop burners so they have 2 of each type. All are used and they love having a choice.
I love watching your videos! Not sure how set you guys are on having the kitchen in the middle but I would put the kitchen on the back left corner opposite of the stairs so all of the plumbing and stuff is by the walls and your countertop could be like an L shaped with a floating counter that can easily be used as the table and would have more storage on each side
Happy Earth Day and Happiest of Birthday Days Elsa!!!🖤💜💙💚
I presume that you’ve already checked out all the earthship videos and plans? With your greenhouse you’ll need to in-build a ventilation system to draw out hot air from the house in the summer and run your grey water into a filter bed to provide free water to your plants, toilet or pond? You’ve done a great job on the house so far! Not sure about a dark ceiling for your bedroom, it may feel a bit oppressive. When thinking about beds for your greenhouse make them at least at hip height to save your backs as you age (use old timber, cuttings etc to fill the majority of the bed, you only need the top 30cm to be potting soil for growing). I built my veggie patch beds at hip height out of a ‘wood lookalike’ concrete so they’ll last for decades. Can’t remember if you have a raised bed already? If not, get one built now, learning to grow your own food definitely has a steep learning curve so the sooner you start the sooner you’ll learn. Buy seeds locally if possible so that they are already acclimated to your zone. Start with easy growers like greens (lettuce, spinach, kale, mustard greens), beets, radishes, pumpkin, cucumber. Not sure how well tomatoes will do at your elevation but they’ll be ok in the greenhouse. Good luck and happy gardening❤️✨
I love to cook and have lived in a lot of different houses and experienced many different kitchen layouts. I would agree with what Beautyinyoureyes said. With the kitchen and bathroom sharing a wall, you don't waste as much water waiting for hot water to arrive. Just more efficient for plumbing, altogether.
An L shaped kitchen with an island is a very social kitchen set up. Doesn't get clogged when more than a few people are hanging out and/or cooking together. Room to move around all sides of the island works well.
Another person said that having a sink under a window is a good idea. I agree. That's always been my preference too. I've never used dishwashers, even when the kitchens had them, and being able to look outside while doing dishes is nice.
Having the sink near the stove is handy and efficient for cooking. I do most of my chopping and prep near the stove, and I rinse my hands and produce often while doing prep. Counter space between the refrigerator and any appliance is key. You need somewhere to put things you take out of the fridge. And space between any appliance and the stove is key also - chop as I go cooking.
I'm a fan of propane, myself. I like how quick it is to respond. not just to heat up, but to lower the temp as well. It's immediate. Plus, there's just nothing like cooking over an open flame - even if it is on a stove. Just crack a window, like another commenter said, you'll be fine. These are just my preferences, you'll have a great set up for yall, whatever you decide.
Apologies for the length - Happy Birthday Elsa!! You guys have done an awesome job on your place. What an accomplishment!
Wow it's huge. I love that Elsa has her on work spaces, and that your going to grow your own produce and herbs. That's awesome. Where's Camp?
I’m sure someone has already said it because this video is over a month old but open shelves (as beautiful as they look) are a lot more maintenance. You basically have to rinse out all of your dishes before you use them if you don’t like to eat dust. Almost like washing them twice and if you’re conserving water you’ll have an issue with this.
One more point about the coffee table, I would make it some kind of a chest or build it with drawers or storage underneath... believe me it's practical and you'll find it VERY useful in the future. It's not wasted space and it's very practical.
We moved from a gas stove to an induction stove and will never go back. Induction is highly and instantly controllable, does not heat up the kitchen in the summer, and does not present the dangers of a hot or recently hot stove. Induction cooking is superb!
Research the tech behind this stove. It’s based on radiation.
Love what you’re doing!!!!! As a parent and safety nut, my two cents is … railing (as you said). On that loft too. Also, consider higher railing for your balcony and rooftop - bar height. If you like the look, galvanized hog fencing is great for below the rail (it’s inexpensive and non-obstructive) … overall, great channel and love seeing your dreams become a reality. Congratulations!!!
Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!
I love seeing how much you’ve created already and there is still so much to come! Happy building & happy birthday Elsa!!
I added a microgreen growing shelf unit to my house and it provides so much with little effort. I even grew radishes to full size! LED lights and bottom heat mats. Add more solar!
Happy Earth Day and of course Happy Birthday ❤🎉
Happy Birthday Elsa! Your place looks great. Keep dreaming! It’s all wonderful.
We have propane at our cottage & it’s been excellent.
I prefer cooking with an actual flame, so I’ll always choose propane. I’ve never enjoyed the quality of the heat when cooking on electric systems. Sure, induction can boil water quicker…but the quality of a real flame just feels different when siring a piece of meet…this might come down to a feeling preference. Just thought I’d share this :) …oh and what’s annoying about induction is that you can use any pot or pan, needs to be compatible, so that could be annoying down the road. Propane works on any pot or pan intended for cooking.
Having a net hammock instead of a micro loft could also be fun, at least for a little while:)
What a way to go!! From Scamp to luxury home on 40 acres!! You two are Pioneers for everyone to learn from!! Such a Great set up & well thought out!! Bravo!!❤
I went from gas to induction and I love it - mostly if I’m warming up leftovers, I just have them in ordinary enamel mugs, use them on the stove and eat from them, so less washing up!
Enamel basins work great on it too! (I do have a pan too, somewhere!).
It’s very controllable and uses very little electricity (you can use cast iron on it too, so cooking times are cut by a third).
I love mine and wouldn’t go back, the only down side was that my copper bottomed pans didn’t work on it.
Happy Birthday. I love your home and your vision for things to come……
Birthday and showing a very proudly built home is making you glow beautifully Elsa, fresh air and happiness, you cant beat that . Came a long way since the scamp days LOL
Started following you guys a few months ago. My husband and I are 2 years into building a Timberframe home , and our stories have SO many parallels! Self financed, (flipped a house, lived in a tiny house for 2 1/2 years and saved enough to build. An unconventional house designed and built by our own hands. We have an induction stove and we love it. We've had Propane and gas, but they compromise air quality which I recently discovered. I also designed our 1st floor main bathroom with the laundry included in the space and I love it. I really despise the laundry/ bootroom/entryway combo. So inconvenient and having clean clothes where all the dirt comes in... 😝 We also have a balcony off our south/east facing bedroom! We are about to start our spiral staircase and I'm nervous! Can't wait to keep seeing your progress!
I love all that you’re doing!! It sounds amazing and so similar!
Awe thanks! Thanks for replying! Keep up the great work!
If you're planning for kids, I would recommend a bathtub.
I grew up with a gas stove but I’ve been using induction for the last five years in my current home. I love induction, it’s so efficient. You can boil water so quickly. Plus the temperature control can’t be beat. Finally you don’t have to worry about fumes with induction. Only con is that induction has hum which I know some people don’t like but it doesn’t bother us.
What a little slice of heaven you have carved out for yourselves. Congrats on all you've accomplished thus far!
For indoor air quality go with induction cooking.
I'm still catching up from your days in the Scamp. If you don't have a rainwater catchment that's the way to go plus a gray water reuse. Better for plants. Love the style of greenhouse. White walls to reflect light. I've successfully grown many types vegetables and fruit trees (citrus n fig) in mine. Exchanging air with the living space makes it very efficient. Adds moisture into winter air. If you can keep the step down into to it, the cooler air will flow in easier. A dark floor will hold heat for cold nights. I love compost for my plants, you can that start that now. Before you set permanent counters be sure you love the distance between the 2 sides. Excited to follow along again!
As a mom of three grown kids I would strongly consider adding a space for a second room. When you start a family you will quickly see that a tiny baby takes a lot of space very quickly. The added room will give a place to put a little ones things. You were smart to build a home with the intentions of building out, but consider what that will look like as your lives change and your family grows when the time comes. Trent and Ally had to do an overhaul of their house build once their son was born because they quickly realized that a one bedroom home was not efficient with a little one. Lastly, a tub with small children is a necessity. A shower is not a practical way to bath little ones. Things to consider if you plan on having a family one day.
It's planned for the area right next to the main floor desk.
If you put the fridge next to a wall, you won’t be able to open it all the way way. Unless you have it open the other way, but the counter could still impede its opening. Just something to keep in mind as you build.
Happy birthday 🥰🎉🌹💚💚 beautiful life thanks for sharing with all of us number one couple on TH-cam 🥰❤️😎❤️💯
I’ve just got to comment on your thought of a spiral staircase. Having used one, I found it very uncomfortable going down. Almost dangerous. If that’s what you want tho, you might consider a wider one
I vote for the fridge tucked in the corner and going full induction :)
Love the tour and following along!
Thank you!
I forgot to tell you I love the desk it's gorgeous Barron. great job you are quite the carpenter❤❤❤
Can't wait for you to see the rest of the furniture he's built!
@@ElsaRhae
Waterfall edge!!!
Just another plug for induction - quick to heat up but the cooktop itself doesn’t get hot so it’s really safe. Also, more importantly, it is so much better for air quality. There is a lot of info out there about this. This is even more true if you don’t have adequate ventilation above the range.
Induction vs. Propane.
There is nothing better than a propane stove stop, especially if that is what you are accustomed to. I find it's easier to use the cast iron over flame. We have an induction top now and it feels like the top holds on to the heat, making it harder to fine tune the cast iron heat.
Convection ovens were amazing when I worked in a bakery. but never had one in my home, maybe when we get our forever home 😁 Hope this was helpful! happy birthday Elsa!
Happy Birthday dear girl! You mentioned that you left an unfinished space for a door … I think you should consider a large decorative rug to cover the space and you can use it on the floor later. Blessings t
Love this idea!
Happy Birthday Elsa!!! We purchased a wood stove for our kitchen. It's awesome! Heats the house and I can cook on it. Your home is beautiful! Great job you guys! ❤
Oh my gosh I bet you just love it!!
Loved the video guys im going into my 7th year off grid and id say 3 things. (and you probably have already thought of them all lol)1st go with propane for the stove . 2nd id move my sink to under the window i find myself doing everything on The island and its the main gathering place when friends come over. 3rd is just an option But i used 100 year old barn tin on My ceiling in my room it looks awesome much love and cant wait to see what ya do.
Y'all!!!! You both have come SO FAR with your slice of paradise!!!!! So happy for you!
FYI when kids get a bit older they spend sooooo long in the bathroom. Trust me when I say you’ll want external access to your washer and dryer. Having to wait half an hour to put a load in or get to your washing to hang it up or put in the dryer is frustrating. 🤣
I love my induction stove, but I think you should maybe take a gas stove in your situation as you only live from solar energy. This would mean one device less depending on solar energy.
I just bought Barron's book as PDF. I would have loved a real book, but as I live in Germany I have to read it now on my devices. I will enjoy it!
I have an induction cooktop, just a single burner thing that you plug into the wall. It works really well, but unbeknownst to me you have to use steel cookware on it or it won't work. So if you have aluminum pans it won't work. Makes sense when you think about it but i didn't realize that when i ordered it lol. I'd like a small oven/range at some point i just don't really have space for it at the moment. Love what you all have done with your place !
Oh man that sky deck would be the first thing I'd develop, star gazing with a campfire looks like fun up there!
I LOVE my induction burner. I got mine from Amazon for about 50 bucks and it sits on top of my electric glasstop stove. I hate the stove. It is slow to heat up, then stays hot for too long after I'm done cooking. The induction burner heats up immediately and cools down quickly. I live in an apartment so can't cut holes in the counter top, otherwise I would get a drop in induction unit. That would be so easy to clean. You can start with a single burner to see how you like it before going bigger. Love how your house is coming along. Oh, belated birthday wishes for Elsa.
I have been using NuWave Flex induction hobs for cooking a lot lately.
I use a Solo Stoves Ranger firepit with cooking extension for wok and cast iron cooking over wood... consider how you are going to get wood to your firepit... a greenhouse on roof might work with automatic drip irrigation to plants... drainage of water from plants in a greenhouse...wherever you put it.
I spent the year of Covid sleeping in a 5x8 Harbor Freight greenhouse raised up 32 inches on cement blocks, just stacked on a paver floor over a plastic sheet to keep weeds out from between the foot square pavers...I had put two, 2 foot wide frameworks in to sit above the 5 gallon buckets of dirt on the south side to plant cherry tomatoes in for the first year. Half way up was a shelf for herbs and other plants in smaller pots...anyway I found with a 400 watt oil filled thermostat controlled heater I kept the greenhouse from freezing and pushed the cherry tomatoes into February... I live in Puget Sound region of Washington state, so the temperature wasn't too extremely cold in the winter. I have found 5 gallon buckets with a single large hole drilled near the bottom edge of the bucket turned it into a good planter that raspberries outside flourished in... later the tomatoes inside were planted with onions and strawberries... by making waterings automatic and only having to turn heating on to avoid freezing and adjusting the vents to avoid overheating in the summertime... the greenhouse didn't require too much tending... I found it comfortable to sleep in, in layers, night noises were interesting.
A project that you might consider is a non PV solar cooking out building... northern side for preparation space... southern side for solar cooking systems that are accessed from the back side of each cooker (oven style) below cooker level could be more storage. Or part of a water shortage for a solar roof water heating system... a chance to design a total solar cooking system ( non PV).
Can’t speak for induction, but have used a propane stove and oven for like 5 years, and I really enjoy it. It’s easier to control cooking temps with gas versus electric. Just crack a window while cooking and you’ll be totally fine for ventilation. It’s easy and reliable, nice that it’s off grid. Oven works as it should. I know induction works great as well, but I think without being tied to the grid propane would be a better option. You can also can on it and not have to worry about breaking anything. Loved the video and seeing the illustrations for your dreams! Such a cool house
Belated Birthday Elsa🎉.
If you have a traditional piano it should be set up on an inner wall of the house to prevent it from going out of tune.
I would do gas counter top. My experience where I live, we lost electricity all the time, but I am still able to make meals because we had propane. You always want different sources of energy.
Balcony railing need to be changed to glass panels, don't want to intrude on your view from your bed! Include the glass in the greenhouse purchase! Can't wait to see the progress!
I've used both, I now live in an off grid tiny home for the past 2 years and have a propane stove and love it, it heats up super quick which makes it very efficient. you guys are very inspiring and have been expanders for me on my journey so thank you for sharing 🌅
Well there’s only a few words to say: Y’all are so smart! Yes, there’s lotsa learning along the way but you follow your dreams & get out there & just do it. It’s knowing what you want & not settling. You pack so many memories & life into the lives you have, which is very admiral. So many adventures & now a home & a family to come. Very very exciting & yes, I’ll keep following your channel. TFS 💕
Happy Birthday Elsa!!! 🎉❤🌈🌎 I absolutely love your home, property and all of your structures! Way to go you guys! I have been watching for almost 4 years and you guys are so amazing!! This all makes me so very happy for you! Many blessings to you for everything in your lives! 🙏🥰❤️🌈
I haven't used induction, but propane is what we run our stove on inside our RV. Unlike natural gas, I don't love the off gassing propane creates.
Great points!
Personally, there is nothing better than cooking over an open flame. I grew up with a propane stove and have missed it ever since!!! I know my parents had a large (200gal?) propane tank that they would only have to fill once a year or so and that was with cooking multiple times a day with 5 people! Also, as a former pastry chef I HATE how you have to use certain pots for induction stoves, stainless steel pots most often don't work and if any pots are too big or too small sometimes the induction stovetops won't let you use certain burners for them! I'm team propane stove all the way!
I second the folks who said, put in a bathtub. I've never met a Mom who didn't use one with her kid(s). Plus you'll enjoy it! Since you only have one bathroom at present, I'd suggest putting the washer/dryer just outside that room--so you don't need to wait in line to do the wash LOL. OH, you might consider making a separate water closet for the toilet--that is SO useful in a one bathroom house!
I've used propane, gas, induction and electric to cook on. They all have strengths and weaknesses but if you go with induction get a separate oven--that's generally a good idea anyway. I prefer gas but induction has its strengths; however, since you guys love meat, I'd at least go with a combo setup, since meat (for me anyway) cooks better over flame. (Plus your electric is limited soooo). Induction has the benefit of being safer in some ways, no burning little fingers etc.
I'd love to see you do a mural on that covered doorway! I choose books for the nook by your office and I think a little loft area is genius. I'd store your gear under the staircase and have a mudroom area back there, maybe.
Lastly....get together with your Mom and Dad friends and go over every safety idea you might ever need for having kids. Really brainstorm. You will never regret it. Your house has a lot of heights, staircases/ladders, fall risks. Once they are past the toddler phase they can climb everything but you will have a few years in there where you'll have to change things you might not have ever dreamed you'd need to. Just plan ahead and you'll do great. I do anticipate you'll add a room on for them before they're old enough to move outside to the A-frame or similar. Your kids will be the luckiest kids in the world to have you two for parents.
I can't even describe how much I love your bedroom. That view...it would improve my life in every way to wake up to that every morning. I'm so happy for you! I hope you two will write more books to spread your knowledge and experiences as you grow and learn; to me, you have tapped into some of the most essential secrets for a happy life. Much love to you both, and thanks!
Love the graphic tool that gives us a visual of your future plans for the space!
Your bedroom is beautiful!! Your closet is perfect!!
I love brainstorming design, below are some thoughts.
Kitchen suggestions: Experiment with an L=shaped layout before permanent installation of the sink. Consider Putting the sink under the window and the refrigerator to the right. (Sink on the outside wall allows easier use of gray water outdoors). Push the stove slightly left of the current position. Try an island on wheels. Back of Island could have a hinged board that could lift up to be a bar for 2. This could make bar seating that would face the sink and window. I would also consider the area around the freezer as a pantry for dry food storage and storage for less frequently used pots. th-cam.com/video/RN_jk7oonUg/w-d-xo.html
Lounging area: Instead of the recliners, consider swivel chairs across from the sofa that can spin around to face the stove .
Greenhouse: Consider a system of shade for that space in summer. I'm concerned that you may end up with an oven adding unnecessary heat to the main dwelling in the summer. Here's a video showing shading inside and outside of a greenhouse in Texas. th-cam.com/video/lEzVi4PyICk/w-d-xo.html
Growing food indoors:
Simple way to grow lettuce. th-cam.com/users/shortsTd36fh4AcGQ?si=TgDfXS3pQpPQeymr
Also, if you're not already eating sprouts, there's lots of ideas on youtube.
Happy birthday, Elsa! Thank you for sharing your life and dreams. Best wishes for you both in all your endeavors.
It's been really fun watching it come together. I like the idea of a bookshelf in the living room. I think a pegboard wall with gear will look too cluttered. Love your bedroom and the amazing views. I don't recommend painting the ceiling a dark color as it will make the space look and feel smaller. What makes that room so beautiful is how expansive it feels with the big windows and views.
What a long way from the Cabinet Chaos, it’s been so incredibly interesting, fun, real & wholesome 😃🧡👍🏻
I'm sure that you have already considered thermal mass for the greenhouse project. Is there any place on the property that has enough dirt to dig a root cellar? (Remembering it's pretty rocky.) With the addition of a beer fridge (standalone) thermostat, a chest freezer makes a highly efficient refrigerator. (Just something to think about.) Congratulations on fulfilling your dreams. Oh, and remember nothing's "permanent."
The roof might be a great place for summer planting. Away from the critters, but wide open for the birds. But Great sun all summer.
Oh Yes

Great hobby!
Your house is beautiful and with your ideas, it will be that much more comfy and beautiful. I love your ideas for the future. God Bless and don't forget to have fun,
So fun seeing your house come together. Induction vs propane, here’s my experience with induction. Love the way induction cooks, however we had no end of problems with an induction range/oven together. The induction parts kept frying, I think from the oven heat (although the manufacturer- Electrolux - denies this). Induction ranges are VERY expensive to repair. Other friends have experienced the same. However friends with a stand-alone induction cooktops and separate wall ovens have had no issues. Hope this helps. ☮️
LG and Samsun both sell "all in one" washer dryer combos that use a high efficiency heat pump. They use far less electricity and don't even require a drain, thanks to the way heat pumps work. So far I have seen several off grid homes using them with huge success.
A very Happy Birthday Elsa..cheers and hugz From The Yukon Territory and purrz from Bob-0-Lynx 😊❤😊
Love the gradual building concept. My only input is not to put your gear wall next to your workspace. Too much visual clutter. And if the bookshelf came out from that wall to form an L but was still open on the back (like your closet) it would create storage and a sense of separation without closing off the workspace, if that's where you end up keeping it. Love what you've got going on! Can't wait to see how you adapt next
Great points!
The video was so fun to watch and made me so excited for future videos to come! Re: your stove question. Induction is super convenient and easy to clean because of the flat surface. However.... Gas is the good old fashioned way to cook! It will give you a more traditional feeling and will work better with pots and pans in my opinion. Totally up to you!
