- In this short video, I show and explain what a typical young cat does when it goes into heat. These sighs are quite universal and it freaks many new pet owners out as they do not understand what is "wrong" with their cat. In tomorrow night's video my wife and I venture to her veterinary office and spay this cat as well as neuter a male cat that we found (it found us really) and rescued. Sorry for the EXTREME CLOSE-UP of my face. I had the telephoto on just a little.

we had a female cat who went into heat when I was a kid, lots of loud meow roars. She got out of the house, came back pregnant. As Ian Malcolm said in Jurassic Park, life found a way.

I have a female kitten. She is making a cute soft purring sound over and over. She is also rolling around on the floor, and rubbing uo on our furniture. We had plans to have her fixed already, but our vets office was closed a while due to covid.

She has her 2nd shots this Friday. The vet will assess.

I rescued my first cat recently and had no idea if she was spayed. After almost a month, she has never displayed the type off behavior portrayed in your video. She is a sweetheart and I'm grateful when I see information like this. Thanks to you and Lindsay! You both are incredible caregivers to those in need. BTW, she is almost identical to the cat in this video!
This video saved me a load of stress. Ive only ever had older adopted fixed cats, but recently adopted a 5 months old who was not in great shape. Shelter has spay date set but its a week away. We have had her for 3 weeks and she has made a great turn around but all of a sudden started loud meowing, trilling constantly, and walking low. I thought something was very wrong, like lower back injury. She even does the feet kick like yours in the video. This helped ease my mind.
This is brilliant my young cat is doing exactly the same !! I was worried she was ill. But this has cleared it all up for me.

I watch your channel regularly but I didn't know your wife is a vet! I'm a vet student in clinics now. Love that you rescue and spay/neuter.
Touch the cat at the base of her tail. She will make a yowling meow sound and immediately raise up her back end. It's a dead giveaway. Also rolling around on the floor, general restlessness, loud purring and extremely affectionate behavior are common. We tried to keep our cat indoors when she was in heat but the minute that door opened she was out like a shot.

We had a cat, indentical to yours. In her first heat she lept from a first floor window to go out and find love... lol. She was ok and neutering soon followed. She lived to 20 and was a fab cat.

Mine were always so loud. I don't know how people can live with unspayed or unnuetered cats. Used to be so many feral cats in my neighborhood that it was on the local news. A woman was fined for feeding them. We found out it was the people 3 houses down that let their unfixed cats roam free. My son was friends with their daughter and told us the cats were on their 3rd litter and they were just letting the kittens out too. It was so sad. People, fix your pets.
they have a thing around here, you trap them, a vet fixes them & clips the corner tip off one ear. just a small clip. the people have the choice to return the cat to its area or the vet finds homes for them. we've have a feral cat around my house, can't touch it. but we & some other neighbors protect it. she is aprox. 12 years old now, & still going strong !!!

I can’t tell you how many times I have seen a cat in heat. The worse scenario was our Siamese cat who attacked table legs and chair legs. Since I was young I asked my Mom what was wrong with our cat. Mom told us she was looking for a boyfriend!!! Lol You could hear her outside, and of course we were visited by many male cats. Got a good laugh on this video. Now Dr Linsey please spay this poor baby when her cycle is near completion.❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😻😻😻
I’m glad I saw this video. I thought my 5 month old kitten had hurt her back playing with my dog. The weird meowing, walking with a flattened back, rolling around in the floor and rubbing her neck on everything makes sense now. She is in heat! 😮 Gotta have her fixed asap.

My russian blue is 8 months old and she hasn't gone into her first heat yet and it could be any day I am sure. Thank you for this. Now I will know better whether or not she is and to not be startled by the behavior or movements.

I am legit glad I found your video, my cat started acted strangely ( super similar to this) and she had just jumped off my dresser so I thought something happened to her, and she is legit behaving as the cat you have in this video! I thought my cat was dying. I legit had a small heart attack 😭😭 bless you!!!!

I feel sorry for her. My cat did the same. There's techniques you can do (massages) that help her cope & speed the process up to get her through faster.

This video helped out a lot! My young cat was acting strange and my mom got very anxious and insisted she had rabies, I’m glad it’s nothing serious and would explain why her sister was wandering off a lot lol

We thought she had injured there legs/back, Yet if I had stayed up late and watched this vid last night we would of knew. Not so far fetched as I watch you daily and have done for years now. They usually don't come into heat until about 8 months.

She's beautiful. I have a gray cat very similar looking but with white belly fur and male junk. Well some of the male junk. He is the most vocal cat I've ever had. We have conversations with him.

Like our cat she's in heat and it's her first time and follows my husband around because he's the only male in the house, I first noticed when I finished work and came home and after I fed her her behaviour and actions changed and straight away I knew think she's around 4 months
Gorgeous cats Chigg, my cat Marley was looking all over for her when he heard her. lol
And something to add is try and spay them before they get into heat because I just lost my black fur baby to mamory cancer and the vet said it's not always but In her and most cases it increases the chance of them getting it. If not spayed before their first heat cycle.
Leslie Gaddy This is true, I help out sometimes with our trap neuter / spay and release program where I live, getting them fixed is actually better for the health of the cat for so many reasons, I am very happy to see this video and I really hope he adds this information to help get it out there. There are good benefits of being "fix" (as they call it when referencing both genders) cancer is just one thing on the list. Also our program gives them a 3 year rabbies shot along with some other vaccination and treats them for parasites. They get a tiny tattoo on their belly, just a dot or line to show they have been fixed so that if they are some how trapped or surrendered the vet will know not to cut them open again, those that are strays or out door cats get a tiny "ear tipping" where a small bit of the top of one ear is nipped off to help identify if a cat needs to be trapped . I don't know if all areas have this but a vet should know . It also keeps down the population, disease, other Strays entering the area and... The crazy crying! Lol, it's cute for a little bit but after a while it's just mad crazy. I have three new rescue Kitties , two female and one male, thankfully he is much younger ! The two females where taking turns going into heat for about two months, the younger one was super batty, she normally has a faint tiny meow bit not when she is in heat and she is a little cat too! She would yodel and Howell none stop, hardly eating or drinking. When you pet her should would lift her botty and dance as I call it then flop on her side and do circles on the floor . I wish I had recorded that 😂 I have fostered too many cats to count (and try to get them fixed before they come to age ) this one by far has been the craziest I have seen. Between her and the one I had to hide the broom and mop when her heat came. Anyway if youare it this far lol that k you for reading

I did read that far.lol your welcome. I have herd of them getting a tattoo or a ear nip but I have not personally seen it. I agree I hope if he doesn't add it then I hope enough ppl see the information and will try and get them fixed before they come into heat.

Thank you for the video. I believe that my 8 month old Tigger has begun to be in pre heat last night when I saw her laying down but with her hindlegs upwards. Hopefully there is nothing wrong with her besides being pre heat since I do tend to freak out by everything haha. Question is it common for a kitten entering heat to stop having a big appetite?
Glad she's getting spayed, that's torment for kitten coming to season. I see you're taking good care of her, she's a good nice cat, most are my experience. I've had up to four cats and two dogs at once for year's, I took in and adopted stray animals in need. One my cats acted just like you're cat in film, I would hold her on my stomach and chest, she couldn't stay still. Dance her hind legs all over, and meowing. Not fun for cat, we got her spayed and that helped her 100%, but vet said her Uterus wasn't normal, and could cause problems in future, but glad it didn't, wonderful , loving cat friend. Black with bright yellow/green eyes.
Awe my girls doing it too. I call it coocooracha dance she rubs and stiffens up. Poor girls muscles are gonna hurt after this.
I used to not like cats but these days i have ferral and pet cats come visit me every day i live in an urban area where the cats are free to walk the walls of our homes and visit other cats kinda weird i know , i have been putting out water in this heatwave and most of the cats are coming in through the back door to the house and eating food stuffs , but the crying like a baby eek we have tom cats making there mark I never looked into it until I watched your videos and now a lot of the feral cats lay beside me on my wall , whilst I am sitting there and sleeping :)

I’ve got two kittens a raised as new borns, one of them was making a lot noise than usual, I thought she was sick then she started putting her butt up and crawling towards me. It’s official she’s in heat for her first time.
Yelp, I have this little kitty that I rescued a few months ago, and four days ago, she started acting exactly like the cat in the video. At first I thought she had gotten poisoned somehow, but soon figured out that she was in heat. I don't want to let her out because I don't want more kittens. My male cat wants nothing to do with her at the moment; we both groan when she starts with the high squeal cries at 3am. I am using ear plugs tonight. How long does this last?...

I know this is some serious stuff for some people, but I was raised around a lot of barn cats. When she started howling and you overdubbed, "Watch her get spayed in an upcoming video", I couldn't help it, I cracked up laughing. Howling a bit much Chigg, was she?! LOL
My cat is 19 years old. Has always been a indoor cat, never got her fixed ! It's hard to hear her scream , but she does not give a damn about male cats ! I have one , neutered, indoor as well and she will claw him if he comes near her ....
Pandora Santos I feel ya, I have one that is 8, is fixed and has been for years but she's deaf, her sister is her best friend and takes care of her so when she can't find her sister at 3 am she walks around the house slowly , horrificly singing the song if her tribe not giving a care in the world as to who hears her until she finds her sister. Her sister who is laying somewhere simply cleaning herself with this book on her face as if she is thinking " here she comes... I'll just act suprised when I see her... Or ignore her while she cleans me then clean that spot later." But would also scratch your eyes out if you harmed her sister in anyway. Sometimes this is due to something that has happened to a cat or lonelness maybe even age. We had a 19 year old cat that would just stand around and cry until someone picked her up. 🙂 But most of the time it's when they are in heat lol
My female russian blue running around all the time and acts a bit wild. Berries food after eating and any smell she does not like. Make is just chilled dude even after one year of not being nuttered

You can also tell by the constant meowing hissing and fighting outside your window at night.
