Oh, I would love to go there someday. I had ancestors that immigrated from Brandenburg. I don’t know much about them, but they had a Sorbian surname. Thanks for sharing!
I am so glad I found this video! You were filming the twisted chips segment between my stall and the potatoe stall. I meant to ask you about your channel so I could subscribe when you were done filming, but then I got busy with customers and when I looked again you were already gone. Well, I am subscribed now :) Love how enthusiastic you are about the museum and the Spreewald! Have you been to the Silesian Christmas Market in Görlitz? I might have a good video tip for you regarding that one.
@@NearFromHome It really was, I will definitely be back next year! Görlitz is one of the few places that wasn´t really touched by WWII bombing, so it still shows medieval roots and lots of 16th century architecture. A lot of movies get filmed there (Görlitz likes to call itself Görliwood) for the historic backdrop. It´s also quite cool because it´s a town that was cut in half after 1945. Half is located in Germany, half in Poland and you can take a quick international border crossing stroll over a bridge just five minutes from the Christmas market. The market is Silesian themed and offers a local delicacy: Mohnpielen, a mix of cubed brioche rolls and a thick, sweet poppy seed mixture with raisins and almonds. It´s not so well-known in the rest of Germany, but since Berlin had a huge influx of Silesians in the 19th century, Mohnpielen are still popular there. My family has it as a dessert either at Christmas or New Year´s Eve. All of that is already pretty cool and a great market to visit, but the best bit is that several historic steam train clubs organize special trips with historic steam engines and matching train cars to Görlitz during Advent. There are journeys that start in Cottbus but my favorite is one that starts in Berlin and has quite a few stops to get on along the way. Do a search on Kulturdampf DOT de / Fahrten. This year´s trip was on 30th November but I just saw they have another historic train going on 22nd December to the Ore Mountains, which.... You need to go to the Ore Mountains, too!!! Seriously, it´s Christmas central. It´s where the nutcracker and the Christmas Pyramid were invented. Seiffen is so cute (if you want to actually buy traditional wood crafts like nutcrackers, go to the next village over, Sayda, it´s cheaper) and the Miner´s parade in Annaberg Buchholz is a cool experience. So, what I am saying is, you seem to be interested in trains and I´d love to watch a video about you trying out a historic steam train.
Hello Camille and Ben I absolutely love your video. The Spreewald is one of these areas, I have always wanted to visit and have never got round to doing it. And the Christmas Market looks like an absolut treat. One of my friends is a Sorb and she told me a bit about her people, absolutely fascinating. Your video has everything I love about your channel: an off the beaten track location, some special place with a wonderful museum, lots of nature, a slow moving, yet extremely witty and entertaining presentation and an emphasis on public transport. I love it!
I loved watching this video. I have been to Lubbenau a few times. My mother was actually born there during the war so I have travelled back a couple of times, but I have never been at Christmas time and now I this is a must for me
Enjoyable video, thanks. Based on one of your earlier videos, I went to the Christkindlesmarkt in Augsburg. I had a very good time. I'm glad that I watch all of your videos.
I absolutely love your content. In the future is it possible to do a vlog around DB public transport, please 🙏? Types of ticket, how to sort it etc. Thank 😊
