I used to be a kindergarten teacher, and I know it takes tons of patience and passion. I can see you really enjoy working with kids.😂 i think sometimes we take back more than we expected. I'm glad you are doing something you enjoy doing now. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos. 😊

I can’t decide if I had stayed in Taiwan if I could have survived the schooling or not. I feel like I would be smarter. But apparently a big part of why my parents moved us back to the US (was in Taiwan 1-2nd grade in the 90s), was because I wasn’t doing well and getting anxiety. My teacher was harsh and basically would hit us with a stick based on how many questions we got wrong on tests (90 one hit, 80 two hits, etc)
But hey, one nice thing is that we stayed long enough that I got dual citizenship

Well, I would guess why a native language speaker as a specified teacher face to face is a better choice for learning new languages ! That's what everyone express "quite correct" emotion to students ,in other words, it input the tones or accents directly in combination with the emotion and proper uses of words or tense in each dialogue !
And also do not mistake A.I coach for an inproper way for learning , it's powerful when you are new to a language !

My Japanese friend said she envies Americans (or anyone from an English-speaking country-I know you're Canadian) because they can teach English worldwide.
A Canadian named Wes Davies in Kaohsiung also seems to be teaching English at a kindergarten.
I remember one of my high school English teachers having quite inaccurate English pronunciation (there were different English teachers). They emphasized memorizing vocabulary and grammar.
After all, in Taiwan, junior high and high school English education is mainly focused on entrance exams.
My English improved a little only when I got to university and started visiting English websites (like LiveJournal), but my listening and speaking skills are still not very good. (My grammar isn't very good either......)
When I was a child, I didn’t attend those English education kindergartens, but my grandparents sent me to a Canadian woman who was renting a flat in our building to teach me English. I remember it was twice a week, one hour per day.
However, it wasn’t until junior high school that I figured out how to really learn English......
I think kids today have more resources to learn English.
    --------------------------------------------------
(The part where Cloud rides the motorcycle in FF7 Remake is so cool.
Someone on TH-cam made a video called ‘Cloud Strife - Bad Romance’.
But in real life, riding like that would be deadly......)

Nothing wrong with ‘oh man!’ followed by a snap of the fingers. Swiper from Dora the Explorer says it all the time. Toddlers love it because it’s fun and easy to say 😂

The education at elementary school level isn't that bad. I would never put my own child through JH or SH in Taiwan. That's where the workload gets really crazy. I do know other foreigners who have put their kids through the entire system and their kids survived just fine. A western style education is really expensive but available in Taiwan. What might really blow your mind would be spending time with Singaporeans and Malaysians (there are plenty of them working in Hsinchu) who are totally fluent in English but have a very Asian worldview as regards education and life in general. There is an element of competitiveness here in Asia that you don't encounter as much in the sparsely populated west. The western system is what it is because of different spatial realities - realities that influenced our culture and worldview more than we oftentimes are mindful of.

When I was in Taiwan as a grade school student, a teach could SLAP a kid's face point blank and get away with it and one of the punishments was to place your knees on top of an abacus for misbehaving for the _entire_ duration of the lecture (usually 45 minutes). Looking back it was wild bordering on child abuse! Good times, good times. But we all turned out alright. :D (I should know, I received BOTH punishments on the _same day!_ Gen Z kids are soft.

While I love life in tw, there’s two things I would never do: 1. Work an office job there and 2. Put my children through their education system and I’m sure most tw locals would agree with me. The reason why school is so competitive in tw is so those with the best grades can go to the best schools and hopefully get jobs outside the country. A vicious and demoralizing cycle for locals.

"Since the beginning of this year, a total of 2.961million Taiwan people have entered the mainland, up 68.4% year-on-year. At the same time, the number of Taiwan compatriots applying to settle in the mainland has exceeded the total of the previous 10yrs."
It looks like a lot of the news about Taiwan independence is just smoke from Western media. They won't let it go like we almost let Quebec go since the US is using it as an aircraft carrier.
