"Pick of the Day" - 1971 Gretsch Chet Atkins Country Gentleman and Carr Skylark

  • Today we've got a classic Gretsch instrument, a all-original 1971 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman 6122! These awesome hollow body guitars have been used by countless artists over the years thanks to their unique tones, and any Chet Atkins fan definitely needs one of these in their collection! This one is in excellent condition with minor wear, a real beauty! Today Jay is taking this one for a ride with a cool two-tone Carr Skylark amp that we recently got in, and you know how much we love these little Carr amps!

    I have about a '72. Love the guitar, but mine has the binding thing going on. Great if you can find one with binding this good!

    Is that a normal amount of space for the strings in the nut? It looked excessive, like the strings could shift side to side in their slots. Or was it just my eyes playing tricks on me?

      Since they rest on the zero fret, it might not matter.

    At 3:00 we get this: "It's in really fine condition, except for the neck, which is the only thing that's been...changed." I watched until 5:00 and no more was said about it. I would like to know the details - was the whole neck changed? New neck or from a donor guitar? The fact he doesn't elaborate is (for me) a bad sign.
