  • A blast from the classic era of Gretsch’s storied past, the G6120T-59VS 1959 Chet Atkins Hollow Body with Bigsby revisits this historic model. Packed with astounding tone, comfortable feel and elegantly slick style, this instrument is ready to stand by your side onstage or in the studio, bringing out the best in your music and your playing. As refined or raw as you need it to be, this guitar will be an invaluable center-point of your sonic arsenal.
    A pair of the ever popular TV Jones® Classic pickups creates high-quality tone with plenty of dynamics and articulation on tap. Traditional Gretsch controls, including dedicated volume controls for both the neck and bridge pickups, master volume and the classic three-position tone switch, allow you to blend and shape the pickups’ sound, creating countless tonal variations. The new Gretsch “Squeezebox” paper-in-oil capacitors provide an incredibly silky high end. The vintage “V”-shaped maple neck bears a 12”-radius ebony fingerboard with 22 frets for a classic playing experience that works with all musical styles. 1959 trestle bracing connects the top and back of this guitar for authentic, snappy vintage tone. A pinned “rocking” bar bridge reacts in tandem with the Bigsby B6CVT vibrato tailpiece for stable tuning while the vintage-style genuine bone nut lets the strings slide freely without binding in the slots.
    Designed for pure tone and slick, comfortable playing feel, this guitar features the classic aesthetics true Gretsch fans love-nickel “G Arrow” control knobs, aged white binding with black purfling, durable gloss nitrocellulose lacquer finish, aged pearloid thumbnail inlays, gold vintage thick plexi pickguard with Gretsch logo and nickel Grover Sta-tite tuning machines. Elegant style and refined sound combine to make the G6120T-59VS 1959 Chet Atkins® Hollow Body with Bigsby a Gretsch aficionado’s dream guitar.

    The Gretsch Country Gentleman is the most magnificent guitar ever! And I own one! Just a year and a half ago I acquired a vintage edition 1962 Chet Atkins Country Gentleman, the guitar I have wanted since I was 16 (I am now 67 years old, so I have delayed gratification lo, these many years). And I just had to have a Vox AC30/C2 tube type amplifier to go with it, 'cause that's the amp George Harrison used in the early days of The Beatles. Now that my life is complete, I need to have another Gretsch for my collection! This video gives me some great ideas!

    I love Gretsch necks. The mute is cool. I had a big orange Gretsch with a mute and a padded back in the 1960's. I bet it weighed a ton! Now a "double mute" might be another thing. It might give you Bo Diddley's "guttural" basic tone. Then all you would need is a tremolo and a Magnatone vibrato.

  • @papawx3

    The thing about the new Country Gent is; for not much more $ you can get a clean vintage one. It is probably the most undervalued guitar in the vintage market. And with it's rich history and association with such talents as Chet, George and others, I can't understand why this is so.

    • @keesketsers5866
      @keesketsers5866 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have yet to see one that has survived well. Most vintage Gretsches I have seen for sale had neck set issues, broken bindings and other small things making the guitar less nice to play. The nice ones are surely out there but at what cost? But I agree, even a crappy 60's strat will sell for alot of money.

    • @papawx3
      @papawx3 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@keesketsers5866 The plastic they used in the binding were unstable due to the use of formaldehyde in the formula, and it shrank and became brittle over time. By the early 1970s they had went to another plastic, and you don't see binding issues on those like you do on the 1960s Gretschses. Any guitar is going to need a neckset after thirty to forty years, so that is to be expected of all glued joint neck to bodied guitars. In years past I had owned many old Gretsches, and surprisingly the ones that held up the best over the years were the 1950s models. I had a 1956, 1959 and a 1967 6120 at one time, and they were all in perfect shape. Wish I had the 1959 back, it had a slim body like a 335 and was a real joy to play. Sold them all 25 years ago when I got divorced. My last Country Gent was a 1964, it was perfect too.

      @lance134679 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Samí Warrior I'm sure it will be great. Of course, Player's Editions are now available. I added a couple mods to my guitar: the Vibramate Spoiler at the bridge and the Guitar Nutbuster near the nut, which helps it stay in tune when using the Bigsby. Both items don't really modify the guitar permanently as they can be removed anytime.

    The problem the double mute solved was not being able to palm mute the bass strings for thumb picking while fingernail picking both directions both up and down (instead of just up like Chet). So you could selectively mute just the bass while picking in both the close-the-claw as well as the open-the-claw directions. This was not a Chet devise nor anything he came up with.

    I have an original 62 but it doesn't sound like this. perhaps my pickups need replacements after 50 years. Believe it or not all the electronics still work and all the switches and knobs still work right but it has a muted sound. its very easy to open up and repair. The leather cover unbuttons and there is a back plate you can take off. Inside the guitar its a hollow body.

    In fairness to the guys that were unfamiliar with the tone circuit, the down position sounds to me more like a conventional humbucker. I'm sure with some overdrive, it would sound closer to the Gibson-ish rhythm sounds of yesteryear.

    Hi Joe and Greg, I have a 2011 Japan Gretsch 6122-1962 . My question is, why is the top and back totally different from vintage Gretsch guitars. Those old tops and backs have flame and just generally nicer top and backs on those 1960's Gretsches. I wish the tops now were as nice. Is this guitar you are show casing, made in Japan as well? Thanks Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

  • @michel333100
    @michel333100 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Joe & Greg, just wanted to ask a question regarding the tops and backs on vintage George Harrison's Gretsch. Why is it that all of the vintage Gretsch G6122-1962 seem to have better looking wood that they are made of. That is the only disappointing cosmetic feature about the new Gretsches, they don't have the aesthetic appeal in the wood as the old ones did. But the build quality, they say is way better than the old Gretsches. Any thoughts on why the backs and tops on these guitars aren't as nice? I personally own one of these Japanese made Gretsches. Beautiful guitar. Just wish the wood looked like it did in the 60's. Thanks Michael Newell from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada

    Are these Gretsch guitars built in the U.S. or elsewhere?

      Actually the custom shops are made in the USA others I believe are made in China, Korea and Japan. The Japanese built are really great guitars. They used to be all built in Brooklyn in the old days but some years back Gretsch entered a deal with Fender hence the far east builds. Although the Gretsch family still owns the company as far as I know.
