Best part of this video was the tear down and reassembly of the carb. Very informative. I think we all knew we were supposed to wash it out, glad he didn't show just that part!!
Im a Stihl Factory trained tech. There is more to the cleaning and rebuilding of those type of carbs. If not done right it may run but you could do some damage to the cylinder walls and the piston. as you can see he didnot remove the high or the low side jets. Makeing sure the passage ways are clean and free of debree is important.what he has done is what we like to call a rinse job and usely you will have to repeat. This doent fix the problem just bys you a little time and may cost you a new trimmer in the process.
So very true....I just laughed when I saw the carb cleaner being applied to the primer as I knew it would dissolve it resulting in a new primer to be obtained . Also the carb cleaner is hell on the Check valves of Walbro and Zama carbs as the neoprene insert will surly swell because of the ethanol and acetone from carb cleaner. Often is the case that once a carb has been subjected to old fuel or becomes tarnished the carbs are beyond repair . We know this to be a fact sadly the average fellow youtuber dosent. Its amazing just how many carb kits are sold to repair these carbs found on equipment in todays box stores as well as to dealers knowing that at best the kits will only suffice a short while intel the carbs become varnished {tarnished} or sadly the check valves will just swell intel the equipment burns up or simply just wont start. And don't you just love it when someone ask you to adjust there carb knowing in truth you should just replace the carb . I cant count the times I hear this from customers knowing there are additional problems that plague there equipment ....You can try to be courteous and helpful by telling them hey you need a new carb ,impulse line, intake bellow, Seals {but will resonate ?} Why hell no in most cases they think your trying to screw them on a embellished repair process...... OMG how many times I have found seal leaks and have had customers insist that all there problem is {or solution to there problem is a carb adjustment} But what can you do or say .....customers is always right ......So you adjust the carb .......it last for about a week then you see that same customer again insisting that there losing RPMs or having a hell of a time starting there engine. { gee wonder why? Dumbass I tried to tell you /you had a seal leak now you likely have a scorn piston and cylinder as well. } Of course that's what I wont to say .......but I just take that deep breath in like most other Techs...Ahh I cant blame them there are asshole shops out there that do and sadly it makes it harder on the service shops or dealers that are honest. But In fairness lets also be honest QUALITY also has a lot to do with equipment and the buyers remorse often inflicted by customers who have been taken advantage of. Dare I say POULAN products lol...
So you work for stihl i need a stihl fs45 carburetor none of those cheap off brand carburetors which the H L screw ends are different than the original stihl carburetor H L screw ends have you guys got any for sale The off brand carburetor for the old fs45 doesn't work for me I've tried resetting the cheap thing 3 different ways and it wont do I put the original stihl carburetor back on with that off brand H screw on the old carburetor the original screw was bent but with the new screw end being different from the old original it gives me problems The original H L screw ends come to more of a point the off brand screw ends are round not at a point I've tried doing the factory reset it still doesn't work it does run better though with the old original stihl carburetor.
@@kevinbolin7665 maybe that's what's fucked up on mine and isn't the original stihl carburetor or the off brand H screw end tip being a different shape you know these pieces of shit stihls I'm just another customer but I'm not one to stick to what i think the problem is I'll test out your idea of what you believe is wrong with this shit and put the new parts on and see for myself You have any original new replacement parts for the old stihl fs45 trimmer or part numbers for this model. I already know what carburetor cleaner does inside any carburetor yes it's not good for it. My poulan items work great and I've reset them last year and did this year to they're still working and are old like the stihl maybe the coil is bad on the stihl
I also have hard time trying to get the carburetor out of the trimmer. The gas line I probably can slowly pry out the throttle linkage is very confusing. There must be a trick I just cannot figure it out yet.
I just recently replaced a stihl carburetor for a fs66. I was told by a stihl master mechanic that it's more often better to replace the carb than rebuild it. customer is satisfied the first time.
I have a problem with mine same model . 1 I try to prime it no gas gets in the primer bulb and if you take off the gas cap it lets out pressure. I thought the gas line is bad but it only 2 years old and I can blow tru it. 2nd my does not have the plastic things on the adj screws . My son took them off to adj it now I do not know where to start. he screwd them all the way in then 1 /12 out but it will not start. I have heard you can get the carb for 35 bucks Where did you get the kit and how much
I took my carb apart and ended up with an extra part I can't figure out where it went. It's from the side that has the little flow piston, arm, and spring. This extra part looks like a small aluminum disk not more than a quarter inch in diameter. It's a little bit of a dome shape on one side. I believe it goes under the opposite end of the arm that moves the piston in and out, but I'm not sure which side goes up. Ever seen that?
I've never been good at putting things back together after I've taken them apart. I just bought a whole new carburetor to replace the old one. $15.00 on Amazon
I bought a stihl fs45 in the spring of 2005. The only thing I've had to do was replace the primer bulb last year and went through a couple bump feed heads before switching to a fixed head. I hate bump feed. That fixed head is almost 8yrs old with no problems.
Have you ever had one that when you prime it with the primer bubble. it just creates a vacuum in the tank and wont suck up an gas in the carb? i pump and pump and it just stays in the line and when i take the cap of the tank off it releases the pressure.
Those carbs are throw away's as far as I'm concerned. By the time you order rebuild parts with shipping, it's about $20 from what I've seen. Not to mention the time wasted doing this. Just buy a whole new bolt on carb on ebay for $28
some pros just replace the carb NEW for about a $25 complete one rather than a $12-15 kit and the labor that may not fix the problem after all (but it likely will). A homeowner may want to replace the carb and fuel lines and ensure correct plain gas+oil mixed and move on...
You might consider using some sort of productive gloves while working with various chemicals. Plenty of people developing all sorts of medical issues later in life, possibly due to chemicals passing through the hands.
Just washing hands with soap and water removes the oil produced by skin and the grime that becomes associated with it. That's how we get our hands clean. Skin will readily replace that oil, and we will need to wash our hands again before long. Solvents will de-oil skin better than soap, but still the oils will be quickly replenished.
sadly with this Ethanol Crap we will be buying new carburetors every few years. And NO this cleaning does not work most of the time.. I work in the industry and one in 5 will work while the other 4 times you need to replace the carburetor because where is is clogged is under those epoxied parts you can NOT remove!

The off brand carburetor for the old fs45 doesn't work for me I've tried resetting the cheap thing 3 different ways and it wont do
I put the original stihl carburetor back on with that off brand H screw on the old carburetor the original screw was bent but with the new screw end being different from the old original it gives me problems
The original H L screw ends come to more of a point the off brand screw ends are round not at a point

what happens if the adjustments are messed up can you show a video of how to do it
no one makes a video to show the carb removal off the unit. I'm having hell getting it off the unit.
You take off the cover for the air filter, and below air filter are 2 nuts that need to be removed. Should only take about 20seconds
Not being used. I've seen carbs gum up in as little as one month without being used.
So very true....I have seen fuel lines dissolve in gasoline {89} in 20 days ....Truly sad what we must endure...
does this occur cause of ethanol? Or just from not being used?
I didn't get a kit, just carefully reused the old gaskets. But $35 for a new carb would be the better route.

Yes usually it is internal in the carburetor plugged up. Can be fuel filter. But usually bad Carb
Ultrasonic cleaner with Pine Sol will work wonders. I've rebuilt a ton of carbs doing this.

excellent videos, wish briggs & stratton would do the same especially on their newer small engines
Hi,
Is the FS45 a 2 stroke?
+Daniel De Mol Yes

Carb is $13.00 on Amazon
This guy should invest in a bench!!! Working on the floor? Benches ARE really expensive tho.
Wonderful Instruction, Thanks !
The diaphragm will get hard show you will need to get a rb 100 repairer kit
Carb. Cleaner is not recommended on these carbs. Use brake and parts cleaner unless you buy the stihl brand cleaner.
Jd Muckenfuss hey the engine part that makes noise .. its on the opposite side of the carburetor whats it called ?? i need to replace it
@@kevincovins3546 it’s called a muffler
Yes, invest in a bench and some gloves. This guy is not operating very safely.
Use a brass brush
Excellent info....... 💯👍😀
a job well done Daniel well done like a Boss too :)
That's not a original stihl carburetor it's a replacement
You might consider using some sort of productive gloves while working with various chemicals. Plenty of people developing all sorts of medical issues later in life, possibly due to chemicals passing through the hands.
Thanks so much
You Man , need new shoes
although a stool & bench would be nice, start putting some $ away for healthcare, the natural oil in your fingers is now gone

+Chris Jacques not everyone has the luxury of having ethanol free gas
I hate ethanol. Our engines ran fine without it!
