  • In the conclusion of his interview with fellow writer-director Mick Garris, Frank Darabont discusses sequels and remakes; career highs like THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION (1994) and SAVING PRIVATE RYAN (1998), and disappointments like MARY SHELLY’S FRANKENSTEIN (1994); and how time is the ultimate judge of quality.

    The interview was done in 2011, so it limited our discussions a bit. Glad you're enjoying them! Cheers!

    ..... Great interview! The chemistry between you two is so energetic and fun. Frank made one of the greatest of American films. I can see The Shawshank redemption so many times, it's that good. Also, this interview is quite eye-opening because I didn't even know, or rather I forgot that Frank darabont wrote the script for Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. You're correct though Mick-- education can be painful. Paying tuition in life lessons can be costly.

    I absolutely loved Mary Shelley's Frankenstein. To me Frank has nothing to be ashamed of.

      It was good, but the script is so much better. It's on the internet archive if you want to read it.

    "'cause that's the stuff that nourishes your childhood heart - the one that sat in a movie theater and was inspired by something to come do this for a living." Exactly what I needed to hear. Another great interview!

    I have to say that now I want to become a famous writer just for the pleasure of being interviewed by Mick Garris. These are all quite nicely done and are so relaxed yet takes the subject matter very seriously. Again, nicely done.

    Great videos, Mr. Garris! I'm a big fan of your interviews and I loved 'The Stand' and 'Desperation'. As a fan, I have two questions for you:
    1) Are there any interviews/podcasts planned with Sam Raimi (since you had him cameo in some of your movies) or with TV creators (like Max Landis for Instance)
    2) Which movie/miniseries/TV episode are you most proud of and which of your work looked the most like you imagined it in your head before directing it?

    • @MickGarrisInterviews
      @MickGarrisInterviews  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      JUTUUBFAN We're now doing the show as a podcast, and yes, we do get into television as well. We're working on Raimi, but no promises. Thanks so much for the kind words. As for my favorites? Well, they change often, different favorites for different reasons. But the far reach of THE STAND to such a massive audience is certainly gratifying. But sometimes the neglected ones, like RIDING THE BULLET, take up a lot of space in my heart.

    I just want to say that I like The Fly II. I know you and Mr. Darabont don't agree but I think it's a fun monster movie and is better than people give it credit for.
    I was hoping to hear a little bit about The Blob from 1988 but I know you only had so much time. I hope he likes that movie, because I think it's great.

      Completely agree. The Blob is my all time favorite remake. The Fly II, for what it was, I loved it. It's not the Jeff Goldblum movie, but, that's ok. I like the monster movie aspect. If I ever meet Eric Stoltz, I definitely would LOVE to talk to him about it.

    Any reason why Frank was never given screen credit for his work on Saving Private Ryan?

      Happens a lot. Patton Oswalt and Seth Rogen made contributions to Borat and got zero credit.

    Ok , cough it up boys... Which one of you were responsible for the dog scene in the Fly II? Talk about gut wrenching for a then 9 year old boy.
    Although as it is all these years later I'm extremely thankful for it. Strange huh? That is our cinema history
