What a great interview! I'm a big fan of John Carpenter, it is very interesting to listen to this man and know something new about him. Thanks a lot for this interview, Mr. Garris!
... that was wonderful- love John Carpenter! his quiet, pragmatic, self-depreciating attitude is admirably humble considering his massive influence on the modern cinematic generations- such an easy conversation of enjoyable, practical insights; could've listened to this all night- thank you sir! all the very best to you & yours, j...
Thanks. He's a great interview, and they guy I've interviewed more than any other. Check out our chat on the Scream Factory THE THING Blu-ray, as well as our January conversation on the Post Mortem podcast!
Mick Garris ... cool, i'd like to see that, unfortunately 'Scream Factory' region specific Blu Rays arent available/compatible here in Sunny Scotland, but, i did recently buy the UK 'Arrow Video' Blu Ray release (cool cult/niche label); currently devouring your 'Post Mortem' Podcasts- wonderful stuff sir! loved the 'Critters 2' special, fond memories of that, shame it's not available on Blu Ray here; may i suggest a 'Monster Squad' special with Fred Dekker? sincerely, all the very best to you & yours, j...
I have beefed up my John Carpenter Blu ray collection with Halloween 1, 2 & 3, Assault on Precinct 13, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, They Live, The Fog, Escape From New York & Christine.
I would love to sit down and sink a few pints with John he's so laid back and I agree with him about Halloween there was no more story to tell but the studio couldn't give a damn and will churn out these inferior sequels for eternity.
I would love to see John make another movie or 2. He is far too talented to have his talent go to waste. But fair enough he is getting on and wants to sit and watch basketball and play video games. I don't blame him.
Studios don't want to give money to a guy they can't control or who has a valid opinion. They can control a director when he/she is starting out because they're eager. A 20/30 something year old studio guy doesn't want to hear Carpenter or Romero's opinion even though they know what they're talking about -- in fact, because they know what they're talking about. The studio has the money, they want a product, and they want control. That's what the legends are up against and why you don't hear from them much.
Unfortunately the movie business has changed so much. It's depressing to hear JC talking about shooting The Thing with a major studio and saying they gave him total freedom and treated him super nicely, and realizing it couldn't happen nowadays
I think it all depends on how the topic at hand is being executed creatively. If a sensitive subject is conveyed in a mean spirited way for the sake of being mean spirited without any lesson to teach then what's the point of putting it on film? If it's a sensitive subject conveyed in a mean spirited way with a teachable moment, then there are ways to film it without being dragged by the audience. It's all comes down to the execution.
John is a great interview and a terrific guy.
Not only that, but he´s the greatest movie director ever !
+Mick Garris Interviews Hi. Are you likely to interview David Cronenberg at some point in the future? Thanks
+Rogerio Barbosa yep!
For those interested, I have a new Carpenter interview on Scream Factory's amazing blu-ray of THE THING.

Many thanks. Perhaps we shall do some more... let's see what happens.
Superb interview.
Thanks! Glad you found it!
I totally agree with John Carpenter about CGI.
These interviews are really, really good. Very interesting, even if you have seen or read a lot of interviews before.
Nice interview Mick.
I love Carpenter films and his music.

Great interview. And Mr Carpenter is a very nice man. Love this.
Speaking of Clive Barker, I'd love to see an interview with him in it.
Chemical Balance
Clive is probably in bad health.
Thanks! Great interview! Love you both!
I always like these interviews with these greatest directors, It would've been amazing to ask Carpenter about "Shadow Company".
Other than being a legendary director, he's also a great guy. Straight shooter.
Carpenter should write a story for a video game, and have a solid indie game dev make it with him.
MICK IS A GOOD INTERVIEWER
I have beefed up my John Carpenter Blu ray collection with Halloween 1, 2 & 3, Assault on Precinct 13, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, The Thing, They Live, The Fog, Escape From New York & Christine.

Cool deal
I have fear in this age of cancel culture. The fear is that it's going to affect the creativity of artiest, directors, and actors.
Well people need to stop letting commies/sjws plus social media run everyones lives start encouraging the word NO and stop bending the knee
