The whole HRG / Roadkill family have online content. It's all so much better than anything on corporate TV. Not sanitized, not jazzed up, just life. So much better than TV bs for sure.
I'm glad that you explained the whole Ammeter thing. When I was a kid, I couldn't figure how that would work without running everything through it, but I thought "nobody would be that stupid". I guess I was wrong!
The content that brought me to TH-cam.. tony you've inspired me and a lot of other people to get out and turn wrenches.. thanks a ton for what you do man..
I had a 64 Coronet 440, back in the late 70s. We called it "Trash On The Dash" like 4 on the floor, and 3 on the tree. Mine had a 318 but it was a kick to drive with that oval steering wheel. Love the content, boys.
@StayTunedTA I'm guessing under the driver/passenger cabin where you had installed the tranny! Frame rails & floor pans looked pretty solid! I have been watching the progression since you first aquired it. I do know there were repairs especially the firewall. It looks pretty good!
My dads first new car was a '64 Polara with a 383, gone before I could remember it (born in '65.) I do remember his '68 slant six Coronet that was his daily for years. I'll never forget the sound of a Mopar gear reduction starter!
Fast Hands Angelo! = light falls from under car, Tony catches it before it hits the ground. "Like a cat indeed!"I have to say I really enjoy your content, guys who know what they are doing working together without excessive gabbing, gotta love it!
Love the show, I feel like youve really come into your own now your doing it without somebody directing you. One of the few channels im more than happy to buy merch from and support
So cool! The terror of the streets back in the early 80s in my neighborhood was a 64 Polara. Black and gold with gold Keystone classics and a 426 wedge under the hood. Looked kind of like the Batmobile and blew doors off!
Daily driver of a 71 Pontiac Grand Prix here(nice weather only of course)love you guys keeping the old classics running on the streets so we can all enjoy seeing them.
Not quite halfway and totally already had a few laughs in the comments. Few laughs from Y'all.....I swear best content around! You never disappoint friend!
Diodes are really handy. What Tony didn't mention is how to hook them up. 48:14 There's a band around the diode on one end. You want that end connected to the thing that you want to isolate. So in this case the band end goes to the ignition module, the other end goes to the starter relay/solenoid. A diode's electrical symbol looks like --->|--- sort of like an arrow pointing to a line. The arrow shows the direction of he current. The line is the band. Technically, arrow end is the anode(+), band end is the cathode(-). Also, diodes can get HOT if there's a lot of amps flowing through them all the time. Something to keep in mind and check when you use them.
@button-puncher Thank you for that detailed explanation. I'm not versed in electronics. I would never have known that. My buddy works on electronics & I'm always amazed of what he can fix.
You should have run a 65 transmission - they are still cable shift (will work with the push buttons) but have a slip yoke so you can run a conventional driveshaft. If you can find a 65 transmission - big block or small block, use the guts from it to rebuild and modify your old 64 with the slip yoke output and tail shaft from your old 64 transmission.
Good to see Tony had the heavy end of the transmission when they dropped it off the jack, otherwise the young fella would have gotten folded in half lol Peace, great build gents
That fire sleeve, it's good to have it fit loosely. Then you've got an air gap to further insulate from the heat. Ammeters are good but, yeah, you've got to run a meter with an external shunt. Really nice to see if charging is working and to see parasitic draw. Super cool to see you keep the push button trans. Thanks for another great episode. :)
Congrats on 50k!!!! That’s huge! The fitness gear is worth it’s weight in gold! I’ve used low end rubber bands in physical therapy, you can feel the difference!
Great idea with the carpet tape, but what we have found with new carpet is after a car has been cured in the paint booth is lay it out in front of the fan! You picked the right time the carpet is like butter! Sorry I should explain that this is a cross booth situation. Old carpets, new carpet everything lays down to form. From my experience
Top 3 favs right now in no particular order ; Vice Grip Garage , some of the Hagerty stuff and Stay Tuned. I say this as I just came in from changing the springs on my Vortec 4.3 over to Beehive springs(heads on car, PITA). Put the new cam in and then tried to put the timing set I bought but the big gear is wrong. I want this cam 4degrees advanced. Think I will degree it with the old timing set and if its close Ill just send back the wrong/adjustable one and hopefully find a double roller in town here.
Used to mess with these and other old Mopars back in my Dodge dealer days in the 90’s, love them, would love to build one at some point but life keeps getting in the way!
Back in the early 90's I was looking at getting a 1978 Ram charger, it had a 440 in it with headers and header mufflers , sounded Awesome, unfortunately it was sold before I could get the money to get it , I think I wanted it because of the white Ram charger in the movie Lone Wolf Maquade .lol I'd still like to get one but I have enough projects, great car Tone y'all are Awesome great videos 👍
I bought my 64 polara when I was 15 now I’m 23, I’ve been watching roadkill/hotrod garage since I was 13, so it’s so much fun to watch you deal with the early b body stuff cause I’ve always wanted one of you guys to do so. My car is 64 4dr hardtop with a 383/451 bbm was a push button transmission car swapped to a a833 4spd, gutted the interior. Has the usual cowl and minor floor rot, the left front fender is barely attached but the structure is solid. It is annoying tho anything early b body related is like 30% more than later mopar stuff. It’s extremely fun to watch this series so excited for more episodes
That sounds like a wicked car! Really glad I got my hands on one and it's fun to dig into stuff I've never worked on before like the pushbutton. That 451 must scream!
@@StayTunedTA I definitely would love to see a manual swap in the car, the a833 stuff is prohibitively expensive nowadays tho so a good 5spd would be cool. My 833 was a junk core that have like $1500 into just parts cause my labor was free. I do know some guys that are all into the early B body stuff who are local to eastern pa, and a some guys around me on LI. The push button stuff is really cool in a novelty since, best part you can bump start them like a manual it was the advertised feature of them.
This series has me searching for an old Mopar to revive. This, along with Jared Pink's channel, are the best things going on TH-cam (or anywhere else for that matter)!
Wow Tony!!!! You're so strong lifting the trans from the dolly, and kind to switch the heavy end. Do something like that again !! always great content, thank you !
My 64 440 has the column shifter but it does has a blank off plate over the spot where the buttons could have been. It’s also a 383 power steering power brakes and 727 automatic.

It wasn't just Mopars with ammeters. Plenty of GMs and Fords had them too including my 71 Camaro. You're totally right that they were horrible ideas. Luckily later second gen Camaros had voltage gauges so I could replace mine easily.
Keep killing it Tony! I appreciate the work that goes into dropping a video of Friday! I look forward to them every week as a way to start the weekend.
Totally agree push buttons are way cool , when i was kid there was a body shop next door still is but different owner , anyway his kid use to take some of the cars out and a few of them were bush button Mopar's

If you're wanting to raise the rear, the over leaf spring helpers add about 1-1/4 lift, which is quite a bit. the under leaf helpers you have are strictly for load only. Also you can do coil over shocks which add about an inch of lift. Either or, or both.
