    Excellent! I've been shooting more and more weddings and have struggled with white balance adjustments out of the camera. I also have a full-time job and I have two daughters (5 and 2), so time is - as you can imagine - a huge commodity. So, not having to mess with white balance/color in post-production is one area where I can realize a huge amount of time savings. I am MORE than excited to use the tips learned in this video. My daughters, wife and I can't thank you enough!

    As an amateur photographer having a D90, I am still experimenting the different features and settings; this particular tutorial really help boost my learning curve in taking efficient photos according to the different lighting situations...Thanks for the guidance!!

    Awesome tutorial. I knew my D90 was capable of doing custom white balance, but I was frustrated that I didn't, until I watched this video.
    Thanks a lot. You saved me so much time of reading through awfully boring manuals.

    Good job, easy to follow. I had been struggling with the custom WB procedure after upgrading from a D40 and this video was helpful. Thank you.

    Glad you liked the video, thanks. I think they are as good as the other with one exception. If you are at the job and you take a test shot, you can compare it on the Lcd monitor to the actual scene to see how accurately the white balance is doing. When you go back in Photoshop, you won't have the original scene to compare it to. This may not be a big deal to some depending on the use and style of the photographer, but might frustrate others trying to get the colors accurate etc.

    I do not get the critics Jon, this is very helpful if you are new to shooting with PRE. I used it for the first time with strobes and this helped me do it. Not sure what the problem is with the trash-talkers that have nothing to add to life other than putting others down. Boo000 indeed.

    If you really want the 1/8000th of a second shutter speed, you can always buy the Satechi grip off of Amazon, which adds that plus timelapse, extended multiple exposure, and quite a bit more (in addition to the normal extra battery and vertical shutter button/wheels).

    Thanks. I think its a tough economy and a tough and confusing world these days. If feel if it gives people a boost to critique, in whatever way, then, I support them, even though I may disagree. There is a lot of pain people have directed in the wrong places. They just may not realize that being negative too much gives a very short lived boost. Thanks for your support.

    Yes, I know about Lima, but have not heard of its overcast qualities. To compensate I would try longer shutter speeds with tripod, 2. look into h d r software , also look into increasing the saturating of your colors in post production. I would also have some fake flowers, colored shirts and hats etc, in your bag of tricks to add boost to your pics when needed.

    I would have to agree with you. In this case I would recommend you get Magic Lantern disks. They do a really good job explaining what you need to know. They are a good company and get the information across in an easy to follow manner. We are pretty homemade and downhome, I agree. I would even agree with the boos because we mess up every now and then.

    Sure Mike, I guess everyone is not going to like our style. I have been doing training videos like this since 1991 for a living and I figure I will let our samples speak for themselves. We have almost 2 million views, so I'm pretty happy with that. And we are still getting sales of our DVDs, so no complaints- I have my health back, (or close to it) I have a great wife and two wonderful boys 7 and 10 That is my success.

  • @EliteVideo
    @EliteVideo  12 ปีที่แล้ว

    Yes I remember, Are you using auto whitle balance now? That may be your problem. If so you need to set a balance setting that doesn't change. Try the different options in white balance depending the lights in your office. Let me know if this helps.

    I would suggest going into the manual white balance temp mode and start taking pictures at increments of 200k or more until you come to the color that looks best for that situation. This way you are not too blue or yellow.

    It is most likely in low light and need more light or there is too much light in which case increase your shutter speed or reduce your iso then it should work.

    There is a lot more fun to make with white balance settings by selecting an other setting then the light is. So you can make your picture summer warm or radio active green. Play with it under the same conditions to see the result from every possible preset.

    Great tutorial, thank you. I take it the rest of the preset 1-4 are for images? and D-0 is for setting the white balance with a piece of paper? I've noticed other tutorial using a grey board rather than a white piece of paper. Why grey?

    Great Short Vid!! Thanks a bunch. I'm super new to Cameras and Photography... and having a blast with it. BUT, I'm taking pictures of a fish tank. Or more a Reef tank/aquarium with lots of deep colors (not deep water). The lighting is LED, and above the 10,000 Kelvin range. More so in the 15,000 - 20,000 if you will. My photos are as close as I can get, when setting the WB to 10K. Anything I can do, to better the photo and capture the color at it's most "BEST" setting?? lower contrast helps 2

  • @meltdownman1
    @meltdownman1 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    How are wildlife photographers setting the custom WB where they are taking a long shot and not close to the subject?
    What is the difference between using an 18% gray card and using any white object as a reference? Is there a difference in video or photo quality?
    If using a flash should you also include the light from the flash going off when setting the custom WB knowing that as you walk back to where you will take the shot the flash fill will be dropping off?
    The Meltdownman

  • @silverond
    @silverond 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    You shouldnt have in full manual mode. Is the lights your are white balancing under that lights that you are also shooting under? Sometimes if you only have the white paper as about 50% of your image when balancing, you may get a better color temp. Let me know if you try that.

  • @robib2
    @robib2 14 ปีที่แล้ว

    Would I be able to use the gray card if I have a filter already on my lens, for instance, a circular polarizer? Would it affect the white balance at all?

  • @jimscotland235

  • @EliteVideo

I tried but it wont let me read the images. Any trick to do that. I just want to put any images into the camera and make it readable for the camera.
