I was able to replace the rear coil springs on my 2007 Passat with no issues. The trickiest part was getting the bolt back in the lower control arm. The rear of my car now sits at the proper height again. Thank you very much for this very informative video.
Get amount of detail and thorough explanation. I’ll be changing both rear springs on my ‘014 Jetta, because one of the two broke and it’s rattling around. Thanks for sharing your knowledge! Cheers from Montreal, Canada!
About to replace bothe rear springs in my 2007 jetta wolfsburg. The previous owner cut the springs to lower it (I'm assuming, nothing was said at time of purchase 😂). Great video, very informative. 🤘
Excellent video guys. I'm ready to upgrade to a stiffer spring for my 2011 golf wagon. I need to improve clearance when towing kayaks and bikes. This was a clear demo, much appreciated.
you prolly dont give a damn but does someone know a way to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid lost my login password. I would love any help you can give me
@Johan Israel Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and Im trying it out now. Looks like it's gonna take a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Good video but there is kinda issue. Please tighten the nut only a little thight, and apply the final amount of torque when the car is back on the ground and at final level, because it can happen, that you "turn" the bushing out of the rear shock. Greetings from Germany !
Thanks for this, saved me the cost of a spring compressor. Just did my Tiguan and worked a treat. The only issue I had was aligning the swing arm when jacking it back up but got there in the end with the help of a lump hammer. 👍🏼
Replacing rear coil springs on a 2015 VW Golf Sportwagen TDI SEL. Both rear springs broke at the base and still provide support. State Inspection caught the broken springs. Springs on order. Thanks for the video. Hope to do it myself without compression tools? Any guidance would be appreciated!
Hi. Was reading your reply and was wondering if you were getting any metal to metal rattling noises coming from the back of the car? Any vibrations? TIA!
@Mark B No. Nothing. Was a straight forward replacement. Both sides must be taken apart at once and once the entire axle is lowered the springs can be removed easily. The level sensor also needs to be unbolted.
Rear lower control arm to wheel assembly bolt torque, loaded or unloaded? I read 38cm from wheel center to fender arc above, but I'm upgrading to Tiguan springs for higher rear end clearance, so I went with 41cm or just over 16", but that's a guess. I can't see how it would make any difference. Opinions?
Thanks for the video. Very well done. One of my rear springs broke and need to replace them. I feel I can do this on my own now and save a lot of money. Thanks!
Hey yall just did this on my golf. For the mk7 golf, you must also remove the lower shock bolt and swaybar bolt. Its slightly more work but dont let it discourage you, it was still very easy
Great instructional footage. Just found a broken rear spring on my wife's Tiguan. This video has spurred me on to do the job myself. Thanks and keep up the good work.
Great Video! I had a question, My 2010 Mercedes CLS 219 had both its rear coil springs replaced recently as they were fractured. Following replacement, the rear ride height seems to be a few centimetres more than it was previously. Is this normal? In time, will the rear ride height go back to how it was on the old springs that were replaced? Many thanks in advance.
2012 Jetta Sports Wagon. Replacing the rear springs because the passenger side spring just BROKE. I am not sure if I should replace the shocks and the rubber mounts and whatnot on this car since it is 12 years old ???
At 4:47 there is a view looking down into the coil spring. What is holding that plastic piece in place? In my 2012 TDI, after removing the old spring and parts, the piece is loose. Does the piece get pressed, mushroom down, into the hole of the metal swingarm after the rubber base is properly positioned? It seems so, but I'm not sure. Looking at the view in the video guide it seems there's another piece in the center. Am I missing a part?
I have a hardrop 2006 beetle that I tow a teardrop trailer with that's sitting a little low in the rear ever since I put new struts in the front and someone said that the springs in a beetle convertible are a little heavier duty and was wondering if you know anything about this or some other was to make the beetle and little firmer? Thanks
What kind of lubricant did you put on the bottom of that spring? I’m thinking of changing my original rear struts and front struts and adding a 2 inch Bilstein coil spring kit. I’m assuming the installation would be the same?
Grade instructional video. Can I perform this spring replacement job on my own or do you need two people? Do you have to replace both Springs at once or can you just do one spring that's broken?
I have a Sportwagen 2016 1.8L Trendline. Can't find torque spec for rear suspension. Also, there are many drawing for that same year, can't figure the name of each part. Please Help. Regards
Great video! I’m going to try to replace the rear passenger spring on my 2008 2.5L Jetta. Is there anything else I should think about replacing? I checked my car today and noticed how low it was to one side. Took off the tire and realized the spring was broken lol
Are VWs known for having bad springs? My 2012 Jetta Sportwagen's rear passenger side spring broke. Part of it exited the vehicle. Do you think the Sportwagen will be the same procedure?
My back rear spring just broke, but I’m unsure if I need to repair the entire assembly or just the spring. Do springs usually fail before shock absorbers? Or should I replace it all just to be safe.
Same with my 2013 TDI. Just had the front done two weeks ago. I this a thing with VW? We don’t race this thing or hammer any dirt roads or carry but 2 people and a pit bull ever. Frustrating.
@@Saltshaker2016 do you by any chance have those horrible red speed bumps in your area? My car does mostly motorway miles and occasional trips to English heritage sites and stuff, no racing, no offroading. Just those bloody bumps on my street I try and go over at 5mph 😂
Update… would have been harder to replace All 4 tires. Start to finish about :25 minutes with a cordless impact and standard floor Jack. I have 2013 Jeta wagon TDI.
That sounds like it’s probably okay. It’ll depend on gearing. If your speed corresponds to RPM I wouldn’t worry about it, if your RPMs jump and your speed doesn’t then you may have problems

@@weskarp7643Just simply move your trolley jack up or down until the holes align so the bolt will go in straight

Very concise, to the point, information. Thank you! This looks like it may apply to a 2011 Tiguan as well.

Great thorough vid. I did my 2012 vw golf, easy as pie but had hand tools so took a bit longer. I would say an impact would of been a lot quicker.

What about wheel liners? Did you remove them first? My car has 70k miles and rear struts have not been changed. Should I change them at the same time?
Where do you recommend buying the springs? Being quoted at 481 dollars to replace the rear coils on my 2015 Jetta and think I should just do myself.
Great video. DOn't see any reason why I can't do this myself now! on my 2013 CC. Just have to get the right spring
Did you end up doing the repair? I'm in a 2014 CC and have a broken one I'm thinking about doing myself

I was wondering if you could use a spring compressor or a couple of them to do this without disconnecting the arm ?

What year and mode is it? With lots of FWD cars the shocks and springs are separate units and can be replaced independently
