Curtis I am a 58 year old Australian retired man. I have Stroke related physical disabilities I was forced into retirement due to a couple of brain bleeds/strokes So with a lot of time on my hands I have found solace in my garden. My wife and I rent from government housing our house is on 1/4 acre. You are an inspiration to me. One question. Like me, do you keep chooks- chickens?

  • @SGT_RPGames

I have been gardening since I became disabled in the Army and have had some success and failures. This video shows so much that I have contemplated actually working for this young man. Your video has me impressed and motivated to push for more production from my small garden, perhaps in a year or so I will produce enough to contemplate selling.

Yeah Brother Man! Us Americans aint' a bad lot, are we: Down here, especially in rural and southern areas, the prevailing philosophy is usually, "Hey now pick up that shovel and get to work or get the f*ck out of my way! Yeah, and you'd all be speaking a Soviet- style Russian if it wasn't for the good 'lo USA. In some ways, we've lost touch with our better angels, but I still believe in the inherent goodness of my people. And BTW, I, for one, love and respect Canadians for your hard work, low-key humor, and those funny hats with the flaps! But seriously Curtis, I hope the Urban Farm Movement sticks around long enough to make a difference in everybody's financial and bodily health. Your show is primo, simply one of the best. You're straight ahead, informed, and you share your wealth of knowledge to the rest of us eager for social change. Dig this, the more local, local farmers are, the less money goes outside of the community and all the wonderful things that Wendell Barry speaks of in the Unsettling of America will have a chance to come true.
The only disturbing trend I see is the super-duper love affair some of the bigger Urban Farmers are having with insane high-tech machines; you know, the Frankenstein operations that brag about, "no dirt touches our plants! Only this special glowing red liquid full of micro-macros, macro-micros, and reconstituted fritos!"
    You know what I mean?
    Keep up the great work!

I've been listening. That's $80,000 gross sales. He doesn't say how much it costs to run the operation. How much does he pay himself? What does it work out as an hourly rate of pay?
I doubt it's a good personal income. He's supplementing this with the TH-cam channel, the book, and the courses.

He also says at the beginning due to tax reasons he's not going to go too far into detail. Basically saying it's probably $80k net on tax paper, and $120k in actuality. Which when you're doing cash on delivery to restraunts and cash at farmers markets, would be easy to cheat your taxes.
Farming is like realestate investing, you're not going to just read a book and jump in and be Robert Kiyosaki in your first year. (Remember it takes 20 years to build an over night success.)
You're probably not going to make $80k your first year farming. You'll struggle your first year, and if you learn fast and properly, you can expect to make 80k your second or third year farming. Putting seeds in the ground and growing them is the easiest part, in my opinion anyway. The hard part is mastering the infrastructure and methods to be as efficient as possible. This along with your first couple years of building your brand and selling are the hardest parts of farming in my opinion.

This is absolutely the BEST TH-cam video ever. People in America STILL think the way You do sir about Americans before you came here. Everyone thinks that everyone else is out to get them. Wearing your shirt on your sleeve is ONLY the best combination of words that describes life in every aspect. So, from an outside view looking in, it's a very informative insight that we Americans need. I'm going to get into micro green farming, expect I've been in such depression, HYPER DEPRESSION, for the last 8 r 9 months, I've pretty much Absolutely ruined my credit and am not working. All of that due to not being interested in life in general. But the past few days, from a few different videos I've redeveloped this hope. And I attribute it to mostly JOE ROGAN. Look i'm at the bottom of the bottom. But for some reason he and a select other few people, #2 Steve@ howtohunt.com, and You ,really, (and your only mentioned last because I only found your videos yesterday) have given me answers to questions I didn't even know I was asking, or even NEEDED to ask, lol. But Thank You. You will never know exactly how much you've changed my life...

    They never teach you....
They only set you up to rely on them...so they can use and stay rich...
Schools should teach kids how to build homes and everything to do with them....fix/maintain them
Schools should teach kids how to farm...all natural medicines-what they do and how they are helpful...what foods are good and why...how to grow them...no matter the weather conditions...
Schools should teach kids to fish....not rely on someone else to fish and then someone else to steer the boat...and someone else to build the boat...ect..

Small scale intensive vegetable production is very profitable if you are selling into the right market. If want two farms doing these kinds of numbers that aren't speakers or authors check out Singing Frogs Farm and Neversink Farm.

It would be nice to see more liberal arts grads contribute to the world rather than all the angry protesting they do 😄
