At 29:30 , the lack of communication among city officials and the lack of them knowing the law and they all have different opinions about their own rules is VERY common in Niagara Falls N.Y. too.
I'm curious about the sustainability of the plants and business. If they never grow to be a full plant with seeds, you always depend on suppliers, any shortage and then you are out of business. Is it worth growing some of your plants to produce seeds?
Very few crops today rely on self seeding. For one, some varieties of vegetables, fruits and legumes wouldnt work as tha most productive varietals seeds do not generate a similar plant. Even fruit crops are based on some sort of cloning or grafting. Some staples, soy for instance, have farmers dedicated to grow beans as seeds - and not only the GMO/hebicide related kind. So, biologically and economically, depending on selfseeding or seed supplier might be equallly (un)sustainable. In fact, seeds from suppliers can be even more viable. If one depends on its own crop for seeds, a bad year could mean no seeds. Dedicated seed growners means time/space staggered production and development.
@@Alice-zc6kw Another important point is time/land management: On other microgreen channels they talk about harvesting crop after days, weeks at most, and grown at a couple of inches of soil/substract, sometimes under control ambient with reduced demands for water and light. Take sunflower, for instance: microgreens can get harvested in 2 weeks but it takes about 4 months for seeds to ripen in a sunflower on the field - under the appropriate soil, water, light conditions. Even if a semi urban northern hemisphere farmer get those conditions, that is an area occupied during months. It would be similar with spinach, for instance - days to harvest micrgreen and many weeks before it start bolting. Meanwhile, microgreens can grow on shelves. You are right, buying seeds make you dependent on someone else. But for business perspective, it makes sense. For selfreliance, indeed it is important to, at least, learn how to get fertile seeds from a good plant.
Thanks for the advice! A few points: The relationship building and public relations is too important for OJT. The best start in business starts with understanding humans. Two classic books are probably still the best sources on how to succeed with people - How To Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie and The Magic Of Thinking Big by David J. Schwartz Ph. D. Most successful peoole have either read these books or learned the hard expensive way. The health codes and dealing with government drones can be exasperating. In my own locale, they're basically Nazis and had they witnessed the harvest pictured at 57 minutes you would've been cited or demerited. Two of the workers pictured aren't wearing hair restraints - something they notice around here. And the mention of a Portuguese chorizo from BC is interesting. I'm next to Mexico where chorizo practically grows on trees lol
Thank you for this Great great class presentation. I grow a lot of greens in my back yards and getting ready on getting the proper Certification and licensing to start my business. Awesome info . God bless
You've just exactly described every customer I have as an herbalist (my clients are wild.) and the issue I have with my own product as a soapmaker (products last too long.). Good to now I'm not the only one.
Hi how r u .. Merry Christmas i like to ask u if u have any information or have u try to plant this before if yes please share a video ( AGARWOOD SEEDS ) THANKS
I'm sure the US is different, but if I want to do this as a hobby, will I have to get inspected and have insurance and all that other stuff? I'm happy just to break even, but that sounds like a deal breaker.
If you make less than 50k$/year you are not subject to the same regulations as larger farmers by US federal regulations. Local regs will apply and can supersede that, but that is often just minimum common sense stuff like enviro controls and other sop (shelves >6 inches above floor, no broken glass, fire hazards, etc.)
The problem im having is knowing all the regulations and how to make my room up to code. I do it indoors and have a spare room that is dedicated to just growing. I never thought about that question. What if a health inspector wants to come see it. Its all clean but i wouldnt want to jeopardize that relationship. Alot of rules. Not as easy as growing the crop. Im in Ontario.
Hi Diego ... I'm looking to purchase the course but I do have one question: I would like to ask if there will be follow up to any questions I would have to Chris with regards to content to this course please ?
This is all great for people who are looking for strategies to take on after they've already started their business and what to address for competition and growth. BUT why don't they ever talk about the actual initial business startup costs and how they acquired their capital to get started and how they were able to financially survive till the business was sustainable? It's always about problems to address in strategy to keep the business going AFTER THEY'VE ALREADY STARTED THE BUSINESS. Stop bypassing this MOST IMPORTANT process of determining the initial capital costs of the startup and finding the capital. Please address the finances of actually getting started and finding capital.
Work hard at a job, cut spending, save money then start your business on the side using savings, then gradually transition away. It isn't that complex.
@@jc6226 Probably. But, when one makes an educational video, revising it until everything is correct is essential. Otherwise, people would just learn false knowledge.

EMF Minimalist High Pressure Sodiums are generally used for flowering cycle of plants. Not needed for microgreens, sprouts, or vegetation cycle of plant. HPS are also in the red warm spectrum. Vegetation really only needs blue spectrum or daylight (full) spectrum lighting.
This is wrong. Vegetation uses many parts of the spectrum, red being a very important area. Blue light is good for vegetation as it's highly active photosynthetically and because it helps regulate growth but red light is very good for vegetation and HPS lights are generally significantly more efficient than MH of a similar price. To answer the original question simply HPS lighting is better as long as you have enough blue light to regulate growth, so if you have a particularly good spectrum bulb for growth or if you add blue light via other means.

I’m starting a micro green crops . I’m having a problem getting the seeds. Where do you get them.
Correction 5:1 vs. 2:1 the one that uses more sanitizer is 2:1.
Should never talk negative or name call customers. That goes viral.
The best micro green seminar I've seen! Thanks Diego & Chris. I may have missed it, but what sanitizer do you use?
Hydrogen peroxide is a good sanitizer for trays and seeds. Diluted bleach works also but I personally don't use it.
Food Grade hydrogen peroxide can be purchased.

HPS - red. Halide - blue. Dang, I might be over qualified. I'm buying seeds. Awesome vid.
