      Hey there. I have the 2017 390 Duke. Kindly tell me if the fuelling issue (surging at low speed) has been sorted.. Clutch feathering is quite a nuisance on mine.. await your reply. All the best and thanks for the wonderful content. Cheers

    Thank you for making the video in English, I’m from Mexico 🇲🇽, we haven’t gotten this bike yet so there isn’t almost any videos in Spanish, most of them are in Hindi, at least with your clip I can finally see it and understand what you’re saying (:
    It looks so amazing, I want it so bad, I’ve never ridden one before, I think I’m going to be so amazed by it, I need to work hard this year so I can buy one!
    Looking forward to seeing more vids from you, thank you again!

    I like the fact that unlike some other people, you are actually being honest and talking about what actually matters, without being unnecessarily overexcited about it. Really liked this. One question I have is, can this be an upgrade over the gen 2?

    • @RRP1992
      @RRP1992 ปีที่แล้ว +36

      If you own a 2nd gen Duke 390, it makes no sense to upgrade to 3rd gen. Because you will be spending close to 4L on road just for an upgrade on the electronics and a better quickshifter. Because engine performance is similar.

      @@tanmoysarkar7333 ok. you own gen 2 duke 390 and electronics don't matter to you. Then gen3 isn't an upgrade at all. This bike is a perfect upgrade over the likes of R15, duke200 or even the CBR250R and similar bikes ~ 18 to 25 bhp from more than 5 years ago.

    Spoken like a true enthusiast rather than just an automotive "journalist".
    Exactly what i was thinking. Good enough bump in CC but just 2 ps more?
    They even reduced the compression ratio. Clearly they're trying to make the motorcycle more civilized.
    But yeah, if you know what you want, you know what you need to do.

      not that ktm couldnt squeeze out extra hp more but in some countries theres a limit for horsepower in order to comply for A2 drivers licence. that is the reason why all the 400s and the 650 twins are below the 47 hp mark. also, is 23cc bump is considered GoOd jump in displacement? have taken the test ride yesterday and the RAWNESS you were asking for is definitely there as you can feel the piston stroking up and down.

  • @BrattyBiker
    @BrattyBiker ปีที่แล้ว +21

    The biggest thing I can see on paper is that from Gen1 390 weighing 140KG, this one weighs 168KG...That's a whopping 28KG of extra weight that it has to lug around. Great for highways but slightly affects the scariness factor of the 390. Love how the new 390 looks, superb design. That pillion seat is possibly the only usable one in the entire segment.
    Would love to hear your words on this against the top-spec fully kitted out RTR 310, on-road, there is a 50K cost difference between these two.

    The new 399cc engine is definitely under tuned in the current setup. But I'm looking forward to the upcoming healthy competition in this segment with the twin cylinders coming in from yamaha and aprillia. 300-400cc segment is the new hot region. Let's see who's winning hearts and who's winning sales volume

  • @satishjoseph

    Since the bike doesn't have a wind screen, while riding on the highway did you feel any wind blast, say at 80-100kmph? Also, since it's a very lightweight machine, did you have any issues with cross wind while riding it on Highway? Just trying to understand the highway capability of the bike.

    17:02 , most of the countries has certain class of motorcycle license. If you hold less class license, you cannot ride 400CC above vehicle.
    That’s why bike manufacturers stick to 399, or 199CC ,
    Maybe thats why they don’t want to increase the cc to 450.
    In singapore , we have class 2B, 2A, and 2 motorcycle licenses are there.
    2B for 200CC less,
    2A for 200-400
    2 for 400CC above..
    Need to pass these class to get that particular class license.

    The last part was good enough to clarify my thoughts to some extent.
    I own a gt 650. And my hunger for power and performance is never ending. Right now i was thinking of getting one of this just for that brutal initial acceleration. But for all that time whats going on my head is that will this give me any sheer experience that I didn’t had on my gt? Or else i should save and look for an update?

      I haven’t ridden this new duke. But you have ridden both- the new duke as well as the gt. Definitely you have gunned both of them? Could you brief me about your feelings? Whats the difference? I can say that after 4k rmp gt pulls madly. That insane surge of power, its just never ending. I have clocked 170+ but still couldn’t hit the limiter. It was still pulling…

      @praghnayreddy ปีที่แล้ว

      bro just get something around the 80hp mark in the used market . the new duke is certainly powerful but nothing like the 3k rpm torque kick in the 650s and you dont feel that big of a jump.

    Hey Strell, I'm in a dilemma between the new generation Duke 390 and the Ninja 300. Considering the need for a comfortable ride on Indian roads and concerns about engine smoothness, vibrations, and heating, do you think the Ninja 300 is a better choice? I've ridden the second-generation Duke 390 for 3 years and I'm concerned that the Duke's power output might be excessive for day-to-day commuting. I'd love to hear your insights on this!

    • @tanmoysarkar7333
      @tanmoysarkar7333 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      I think thorough test rides back to back can help you. Those two are very different. I daily ride a gen 2 duke 390 and i absolutely adore the character of it, it does heat up when trapped in traffic, but that's just one compromise i am willing make to feel the performance on tap rest of the time. And do not ride ktms with shorts on 🤣

      Depends on the purpose of the bike. If you into sports touring and wants a comfortable smooth engine experience with 120-130 kmph cruising speed with zero vibes, go for Ninja 300. Nothing better than a twin cyl refinement (compared to any single cyl)

    • @abhishekkakarla1999
      @abhishekkakarla1999 ปีที่แล้ว

      If refinement is your first priority then go for ninja 300 as it is a twin cylinder motor. Duke 390 has vibrations and heating issue but make sure you take a test drive first.

    • @tanmoysarkar7333
      @tanmoysarkar7333 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@coolfriend693 I dont think its as simple as that. In some scenarios duke is even sportier than the ninja. You have to know the powerband, handling, character of the chassis and engine and the overall vibe the bike gives you. Heck even I had confusion between the two before taking test rides.

    Gen 1 d390 are still the benchmark. They're mad tbh and if you don't respect her she will make you pay for it. Hardly any gen 1 duke are spotted on road these days. A duke is a duke is a duke it cannot be a civilized machine. Gen 1 was never perfect but the personality it had was something different. The moment i swing the throttle it neve fails me to have a wide grin under my helmet, occasionally it do scares me with some powerslides and powerwheelie. Tbh, the gen 2 never impressed me, and seems like we've the arsenal for some upgrade in the form of these suspension, brakes and lighter wheels. I hope they're upgradable on the gen 1. 😈

      The reason you dont see any Gen1 on the road is because they all are broken. I still have mine sitting in my garage, and to make it road worthy I have to spend about 2k USD on it. In our part of the world you can get a used 2017 version for 1500 USD. So I am thinking of stripping it for parts and selling them off.

      No reviewer has talked about this, generally dukes are not renowned for high speed stability as the 2nd gen used to feel nervous at its limit, I strongly urge you to do an extensive test ride but please be safe bcz the bike reaches silly speeds in a flash that may put you in danger, safely try higher speeds in empty stretch and see if the stability appeals to you.

      Take test rides. As long as you can, as many times as you can, you will never know what you will like before you really get to explore different bikes. Because spec sheets will not tell you half of the stories, neither can reviewers as everyone has different taste.

    @strell bro i need an opinion.. I own a Interceptor 650.. I love it.. Lots of touring and Highway runs.. But i also owned a r15 v3 which i sold 6 months back.. And now i miss it soo much now.. I have booked a duke 390 and willing to purchase it.. I want to try the orange hooligan.. But the doubt is will i enjoy it over int650?

    • @RRP1992
      @RRP1992 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you own a interceptor 650, you won't find the duke390 performance to blow you away (it definitely feels better cz of the weight difference but actual cruising speeds on highway isn't different ~ 120-130 kmph for both)
      You will love the electronics and riding in city will be much better on the duke390 compared to Interceptor.
      Sorry if I have confused you more.

      Everything boils down to:-
      1. what is your budget?
      2. Are you willing to keep your 650
      3. What style you prefer eg. Sports or naked.
      4. Or you want power

      @@RRP1992 you really did bro.. hahaha.. but the thing is with my r15 doing 130 was a breeze, it felt very stable calm and most of all, secure as if every thing is working at my command but with int650 it's like every thing has a mind of its own post 120 kmph.. & that's scary..
      Though I will keep the int650 for the tours and highway stuff where it's weight is a boon but what I wanted to know from strell since he has ridden the duke 390, was does the duke has more ferocity or in ur face punch than int650??

IS it mandatory to show the number plate at the rear end of motor bikes in india?

    hey strell about the new duke 390 producing only 2 bhp more than earlier duke 390 would be in international market duke 390 is beginner bike and ion UK there is rule A2 license people can ride bike under 47bhp . Therefore if new duke 390 would able to push 55bhp than they have to tune the bike for the internation market to produce 47 bhp for A2 license holders. therfore they stick to 46bhp and 39nm .
    this may be same reeson why interceptor 650 while being a bigger displaement bike and having an advantage of a cynlider still make 47 bhp. to target new bigenner rider in international market and its engough power for indian rider and indian road.
    take care strell and thanks for producing such contents like this .
