If don't come back was one of Elvis's all time worst vocal performances, funky arrangement (although once that ultimately doesn't work) and an uninterested Elvis one of his worst recording sessions. always a massive missed opportunity to work with new musicians at a great studio, perhaps cut some Stax songs there was the start of some good arrangements but Elvis probably not feeling well and uninterested left early. returning a few months later working with his familiar band a better recording session but without the ambition of the first.

Elvis used to listen to Mario Lanza records, so he knew opera. Elvis’s voice is out of this world. He could’ve been an opera singer if he wanted to be.

I was just reading where someone said Elvis would need to have extra training to sing opera. Uh, have they ever heard Elvis's voice? Just with his regular voice, no extra opera training, Elvis can sing opera, he already has!!
Listening to this though is only further proof that he can, untrained!! It's hard to get the right wording to find when Elvis sings O Sole Mio in Italian!! It's out there, short & sweet!
Elvis has a sweet powerful voice, he can sing anything !!
If you want to hear a beautiful song, sung in Italian by Elvis, look up
Santa Lucia by Elvis Presley, if you haven't already heard it!

"Elvis Presley's three-octave vocal range was exceptional, 'very narrowly all at once a tenor, baritone, and bass'. A 1987 article in the Village Voice included an assessment of his voice in classical terms, categorizing it as a 'lyric baritone ... [but with] unexpectedly rich low [notes] ... and astounding high notes'. It also discussed the power of Elvis' voice, which it termed 'microphone singing', while also noting that it was 'hard to think of an opera singer who could match it' According to Jerry Leiber, 'He had an incredible, attractive, instrument that worked in many registers. He could falsetto like Little Richard. He could sing. The equipment was outstanding ... His sense of timing and rhythm was second to none'. Elvis was 'the master of a wide and diverse range of vocal styling's and ventriloquistic effects, from the clear tenor of his country-western heroes (Roy Acuff, Eddy Arnold, Jimmie Rodgers) to the exaggerated vibrato of the gospel singers he loved'. (Jake Hess, J. D. Sumner)."

Actually, I saw Pavarotti on Larry King. King asked Pavarotti who his favorite singers were, expecting the answer to include solely opera singers. Pavarotti cited a few opera singers and then said Elvis Presley. King was surprised, but Pavarotti said that Elvis was The Voice of the Twentieth Century because Elvis had the most richly expressive singing voice, ever. Luciano said that Elvis could convey more sentiment and emotion with his singing voice than anyone, ever.

This has been around since the 70s, I have it on bootleg. Elvis could've handled a whoe album in that style and ventured out of his comfort zone. He used his operatic mode here and there on a few track's, Hurt, How great though art, Never gonna fall in love, Surender etc...but he perhaps could have hired an operatic voice coach and taken on new challenges, I guess he got into a rut far too young but it would've been great for his wellbeing. What potential here though, even though he's kidding around.

I am a fan of Elvis and I enjoy listening to him. However, we should stick to facts. Torna a Surriento is not Great Opera, it is a Neapolitan song. Turandot is Great Opera. Nessun Dorma is a great aria in Turandot. I don't doubt Elvis can do a credible job singing Nessun Dorma and other great opera arias, but Elvis singing lala la la to the tune of Torna a Surriento is not Great Opera and really cheapens Elvis's talent.

Please lighten up, this is a recording session out-take and he's merely doing this as a very quick vocal excersize to break in his voice. It was never intended to be heard by the public, ever...so all this talk of "cheapening his talent" is pedantic to the extreme and quite frankly autistic sounding.
