This is one of the first three carts I had when I got the NES as a kid. It's an interesting idea for a game, but they only half delivered on the execution. You barely use most of the different jellybean types. The enemies are very limited. It seems like they gave up on the game design halfway through because half the treasures you can find in basically one spot. I don't know if they had time constraints on development or perhaps the game was too ambitious for the hardware, but it feels like the cavern area should have been much bigger with a lot more traps to solve in order to get all the treasures. There should also be more incentive to get the treasures to max out your weapon at the end, but you don't really need it for much.
The platforming is pretty mediocre with the running momentum element not being particularly fun. The end boss is also pretty lame and it's not hard to get soft locked there if you struggle with the momentum aided long throw. The music is okay, but highly repetitive even though this isn't a long game. The graphics are overall meh and it's weird that most of background detail looks to be in the street and subway sections where you barely spend any time. The caverns, where you spend most of your time, are just a boring black. There is very little replay value.
It was a frustrating game as a kid because you have little direction and I played my other two early games, SMB/Duck Hunt and Blades of Steel, a lot more. Replaying it as an adult, I can appreciate the puzzle solving element more, but the game's other issues become a lot more apparent.

Now that I see it, it *does* remind me a lot of Pitfall, with the multiple cliffs, plummeting, and leaps of faith you occasionally take. Crane certainly had a theme going, didn't he?

Hi, Mike! I wanted to pass along a few suggestions of NES games that might make interesting streams. Some of these you mentioned on previous videos you might like to come back to some day.
Frankenstein (side-scroller with atmospheric gloomy visuals)
Silkworm (horizontal shmup with a helicopter)
Shadow of the Ninja (looked a little like Ninja Gaiden meets NES Batman)
These are two that I'm very familiar with:
Xexyz (side-scroller with shmup levels. To progress in the game, in each area, you will need to shoot a specific stack of 2 square blocks with a star graphic on the blocks. When this block is shot with your weapon 5 times, a door will appear in mid-air. Going into the door and defeating the boss gives the key to progress to the 'castle' stage that comes next.)
Gargoyle's Quest II (to "fly" in this game, you can push "jump" once for the normal jump, then tap "jump" again to make Firebrand hover in mid-air. Pressing left or right on the d-pad will make him hover in a straight line in that direction.)
    I hope this is helpful!

Seems like Zelda is your frame of reference for a game to keep coming back to and learning a little bit from each time that began and framed your loved for games, but as a kid mine was Maniac Mansion. That game means as much to me as Zelda seems to mean to you. This game gives off that kind of vibe. Always wanted to play it as a child, but never got a chance to. Thanks so much for running through it and saving the frustration!

12:15 Watching you play Wizards of Oz definitely made me try that game. 1st reason was to test if the game was really that hard or if you sucked at it, 2nd reason was to play on emulator to test the Toto number game to see if the RNG was possible to beat. I concluded that the game really is hard and that hour you spent trying to beat the RNG Toto mini game was wasted because It's nearly impossible to beat on emulator using save states trying 100s of times in a row, but it was fun watching you try.

Definitely an interesting concept A Boy And HIs Blob had. Though the music veers more into the annoying vein (especially that note...dum-dun-dum-dun-dum-dun-DEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE; not as annoying as, say, Ikari Warriors or Adventures Of Rocky And Bullwinkle).
Regarding your comment towards dark areas in video games: is your dislike towards them in general or do you not mind it as much if there's an in-game solution to light up the darkness (for example, some of the dungeon rooms in Zelda 1 are dark but you can light them up with the blue/red candle)?
