None of us condone drinking and driving but my man Charlie nailed it. A cold beer on an old back road on a warm late afternoon with a band like this is a special treat.
Personally i hate the way alcohol makes me feel but i absolutely condone driving Kentucky backroads. I miss the drive from Murray to Princeton/Eddyville when i lived out there. I miss KY. Some of the most genuine and beautiful people on Earth are in Western KY.
@PaulPX I was in Ireland many years ago. Like 1997. My ship pulled into port at Dun Laoghaire. I took a train to a very small town in the country side. I can not remember it's name. My buddy and I walked into a pub midday in our uniforms. We walked in not knowing a soul but when we left I had dozens of new friends. We had such a great time. We danced with the girls and drank with the guys, all telling stories and buying drinks. Laughing the whole night. I remember them tapping bottle caps on bottles to the music. There was a song they played alot called " who the %$$^ is alice" Alice! Who the $%## is Alice! By the time I got back to the ship, my cover was gone, my medals were gone.. i came back with my pants beer stained tshirt and empty wallet. I can imagine hearing this song on the train and it would have the same effect
While I don't think I'd call it "folk rock", it's not too far removed from it. If you listened to 80s Album Rock radio back in the day (not just Top 40 that played rock), you would find that AOR didn't play THAT much metal, at least not until it took off as a fad (hair metal), because people demanded it. Nothing wrong with metal (IMHO), but it's just one style of rock. There's a whole lot more to 80s than what was popular in the mainstream, such as metal & new wave (of which this is also not TOO far removed from).
As far as 21st century rock music goes, you honestly won't here a better riff than this. It's roaring but emotional at the same time - so, so difficult to create something like this. An absolute masterpiece
I truly think that if the war on drugs were a band in the 70s they would have a much bigger impact on music. They have their own sound, they make great music, and they’re legitimately talented.
This is a truly outstanding band and I am just finding out about them... I am 62 and I just haven't heard anything new that spoke to me with exception of Rival Sons and Greta Van Fleet in the last several years..... but this is a thinking band with cryptic lyrics... and that really sends me... I have listened to about 5 songs and like every one of them... I heard "Pain" playing as I went into the grocery store and shazamed it.... It is quite an unusual song to be used in a public playlist but I am glad it was playing....
Imagine looking for "that one song" you heard but you couldn't remember any lyrics to it, nor how it really went but you knew it was a banger and you liked it and you just couldn't really ever recall it ... almost like it was part of a dream... And then you find it.... Yeah. That was me just now.

2018 September I was listening to this 24/7 while walking my dog on Friday evenings after dark/after I got off work. Preparing a wedding in the coming weeks. Imagining what the future would hold. 8 months later divorced. Now, 5 plus years later I am listening to this song again, feeling it deeply in my body on this Friday night after dark. Life will fuck you up but music will always be there for you. 🙏
Yeah, at first I thought that was going to be the point of the video. The others were all strained and anxious because they were focused on performing, but the dancing couple were having a good time because they were focused on being with each other. So even though the dancing couple wasn't objectively that good, they would win (and not even notice). I almost felt offended for them when they got rejected, lol.
I was doing a job at a house in Walthamstow a couple of weeks ago and talking to the guy about his vinyl and our similar taste and in music. Lovely bloke. Told me to check this band out. Haven't stopped listening since. What a great band.
Cousin played this whilst in the cab on the way to the airport to go Dublin for my 21st. Everytime I hear this it reminds me of it :). Just thought I'd share it.. :)

So fine to be alive for many reasons. Music is one of the most stimulating reasons for sure. Finding this was as sweet as finding anything else from my youth. It's weirdly like something I've heard before but probably better. The 70s influences marinate this band.
Beautifully crafted music. Lyrically and melodically complex. Gorgeous structure with good verse variety. Eff'n Rock and Roll. Mark Knopfler would be proud...
This song (or maybe the video) gives joy and sadness at the same time. Seems like the music is bringing me down then the guitar comes and tries to lift me up
The feeling of this song reminds me of the good feelings i had growing up in the 80s as a child. Thank you because i had forgotten. Just brought tears to my eyes.
I saw them live in Berlin just a few weeks ago. Oh my, it was so good, the first concert in ages, the sound and light was perfect, and so was the band. totally lost it when Red Eyes played. thanks for that great experience.

What album
Lost In The Dream
This song will definitely be on the Top 100 chart 100 years from now (since 2023)
This is my easily in my top 5 songs of the 2010's. "Lost in the dream" is superb.
This whole album is absolutely killer.
Walker Nighbert
Awesome.
Huge joy division fan, glad to see another soul with good taste.
Agreed!
Absolutely agreed - adore this album. Love your profile pic. The one and only Ian Kevin Curtis (bit of a hero of mine).
the war on drugs have kept me alive 6/1/2021
Their music definitely should be listened to while driving, or on a road trip. Can’t get enough.
Listened to this song driving through the Utah deserts. Tears of joy
Definitely 👌🏻
I listen to this AWESOME 😎 masterpiece all the time back home 🏡 in the Pacific NW💚💙
Listened for my whole, brief trucking career.
War on Drugs and "The Trip" by Still Corners are always the first two on a roadtrip playlist th-cam.com/video/2m2Lr_HqCfg/w-d-xo.html

I'm obsessed with this track.
Me too!
I listen to it atleast once a day
6 times here... I just can't get over how much this band sounds so 80's rock but its not a metal rock, similar to like a 80's folk rock.
Erabus this is a hybrid of a song by Wire Train called I'll do you and burning for you by blue oyster cult
As far as 21st century rock music goes, you honestly won't here a better riff than this. It's roaring but emotional at the same time - so, so difficult to create something like this. An absolute masterpiece
Without a doubt
I must listen to this band the next time I go on a road trip, I always imagine driving by a sunset while I listen to this!
MisterPringle omg I thought the same exact thing when I first heard the song
+MisterPringle I have driven at sunset to this song and recommend trying it.
BLUDGEEER Have you also listened to them during the sunrise, that would also be another great time!
Agreed! Will give it a go. I think any time between sunset and sunrise would also be an appropriate time to play this song. Especially while driving.
+MisterPringle ikr?? Do you have any recommendations for road trip songs??
We are so lucky to be alive at the same time as this band. What an incredible reverb drenched soundtrack to hang our memories on!
Good grief.
??????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????
This song is like the ultimate mood reset button. Listening to it just once can literally make any day for me.
I truly think that if the war on drugs were a band in the 70s they would have a much bigger impact on music. They have their own sound, they make great music, and they’re legitimately talented.
Any good Artist can be successful in any era
If by their own sound you mean a hybrid of Dylan, Dire Straits and Tom Petty - you are correct!
This is a truly outstanding band and I am just finding out about them... I am 62 and I just haven't heard anything new that spoke to me with exception of Rival Sons and Greta Van Fleet in the last several years..... but this is a thinking band with cryptic lyrics... and that really sends me... welcome to tWOD's world
same here, Im 60, and just found this band. Heard of them, but couldn't put a song to the name. Awesome stuff!
check their song "thinking of a place", it's amazing
Also check out the Killers newest album, The Head and the Heart , The Strokes and Ryan Adams. Lots of good new music out there.

Come and see
Where I witness everything
On my knees
Beat it down to get to my soul
Against my will
Anyone can tell it's you coming
Baby don't mind
Leave it on the line, leave it hanging on the rail
Come and ride away
It's easier to stick to the old
Surrounded by the night
Surrounded by the night and you don't give in
But you abuse my faith
Lose it every time, but I don't know where
You're on my side again
So ride the heat wherever it goes
I'll be the one to care
You're all I've got, wait
Don't wanna let the dark night cover my soul
Well, you can see it through the darkness coming my way
Well, we won't get lost inside it all again
Oh, my mind
No one sees me, I'm out here waiting
They don't mind that I'm here, I hear
Throw the bad away, and your mind against it
I would keep you here, but I can't
Oh, I'll talk to you when I make my way back
I don't see it over there where I come from, yeah
Lost and you're hurt again
The easy way to cover my sin
Don't want another dark time to think to myself
We won't get lost inside it all, you're on my way
Well, I can see it in the darkness combing my mind
Well, we can hear the voices war inside
Yeah, and you won't get lost inside it all
You're on my way
Thank you
Thank you

The masterpiece album of the decade.
Totally agree ❤
The only album from the same decade that I think comes close to it is Halcyon Digest by Deerhunter. Either way, both albums are out of this world.
One of those songs that make you contemplate on life and your surroundings
Fantastic song to travel the world. YEAH!
Probably my favorite song of all time
I love the old dancing couple in this video. They look like they are genuinely having fun.
Yeah, at first I thought that was going to be the point of the video. There is definitely something in certain combinations of sounds that create a nostalgic mood on people. It doesn’t matter if the song is recent.

Best kept secret - Neko Case

That little guitar shredder is rad.
Getting a mad 80's vibe. I really dig it :)
it is indeed because of that gated reverb

Lauren M Me too, just couldn't find the words to use....
Lauren M so much
Lauren M They've got a pretty classic sound
Lauren M perhaps b/c their sound is similar to older greats like Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits, Don Henley, and Bob Dylan... I LIKE "EM! A WHOLE LOT!!!
what does that word mean ??,
They will never ever have a hit as good as Red Eyes!
Another timeless and beautiful song from the most underrated rock band in the history of the universe

There are so many artists, styles and songs within a single TWOD song that it's insanely mindblowing ...TWOD is probably the best thing that happened to music in the 21th century.
This heavily makes me think of Mark Knopfler and Big Country.
I actually feel a Moody Blues influence in some of their songs, from back when the Moodies were good.
Greatest non-mainstream (although still kinda technically mainstream) band in probably at least the last 20 years.
This is the real deal. Love it: happy, sad, confused and clear. What a ride! I adore artists that can touch the human nerve like this.
